firefly @ Circuit City $17.99

Best Buy also has this for $19.99 this week. Just picked it up myself and after watching a few episodes I must say that it is excellent.
 
Never seen any episodes or the movie. Been meaning to pick this up just because of the online buzz I've read so I guess I will. Does it matter if I watch the Show or the Movie first?

YES. Watch the entire show first or the movie will ruin it. You can follow the movie without watching the show but you won't get as much out of it. I still can't believe they cancelled this show.

The world "buzz" doesn't do the Verse justice. More like "from the camera of God Himself".

It really is that good.
 
Ok it's not "GOD IS SPEAKING TO US THROUGH THIS SHOW!" good, not even close. It's HUGELY overrated, but that said it's still a great great show, it's just the buzz is way overdone.

I got it for $24 after only seeing the pilot (which is the worst episode) and the last episode (which is the best episode).

IU also dislike the movie because it's not as funny and light heart. The show had the feel Dead Like Me does, it's a dark show but has light parts. The movie just was dark and the pasing was rushed. The charaters were not in charater and somehow even in hard times they found a way to get a hovercraft hting.
 
Let me regulate the hype for you by saying it's really really good, but it's not THAT good. I would have liked to see a full season -- I think the show would have really been perfect at a length of, say, three full seasons -- and $18 or $20 is an excellent price for about 8 hours of very solid entertainment. It is better than many cancelled TV shows, and there are lots of great cancelled TV shows, so that's saying something. "From the camera of God Himself," though, not really.
 
Okay. Here's the deal. There's only 13 episodes so there was never time for a weak script just so they could get something on the air. Every episode is as strong as the previous one.

I'm sure if the series had more time it would be knocked down a peg or two just because nothing can be perfect forever.

Saying it was from the hand of God might have been a little fanboy, but compared to a lot of sci-fi it is leagues ahead.

That's not saying much. There is a lot of great Sci-fi, but people don't watch it and it's canceled. The sci-fi most people know is shit because only the shit stays on the year for 10 years.

Dark Skies, Odyssey 5, Firefly, hell even the Pretender , kind of, are great examples of sci-fi that never went anywhere because people didn't watch.

just have an open mind and you'll enjoy it. to the star wars fan boys just think of firefly as a day in the life of han solo.
 
Finally picked it up at best buy today, price matching CC. I've been looking for this constantly since it is always in ads at 19.99, but stores never seem to stock it. For me bestbuy had it in the bottom of one of those strange display things sitting in the middle of an aisle. Of course, nowhere near where it should be on the shelf.

I'm not a huge sci fi fan, but I think the series is great. I've also gotten into Battlestar galactica, although not as much.
 
Here's a non-fanboy, Joss Whedon hating opinion: It's a pretty good show with a couple of incredibly solid episodes that promised a great show that never came to fruition. $20 is a good price if you want to try it out. The later episodes are especially good.
 
I bought this set a couple years ago on a blind-buy recommendation at the DDD sale, and loved every minute of it. What really helps is that you can watch the episodes in the order they were meant to be seen in, not the order Fox decided to show them (which doomed it from the start because there was no proper introduction to the characters).

Its definitely worth $18.
 
I just got this in the FYE sale online along with many other tv show boxsets. It was $18 shipped after 10% off code and free shipping. Forgot it was $18 at CC, but at least it will be delivered to me.
 
Wish I would have read the original posting date because this is no longer on sale at Circuit City. It rang up full price of $34.99 but it is on sale this week (ending Saturday 1/13) at Target for 19.99

I watched the whole series in about 2 days... I'm really bummed that it's over. Now I need to pick up Serenity and finish that so I can be really bummed when it's all over...
 
You will feel other things after Serenity ends. My first feeling was 'Well that didn't feel like the show at all".
 
The show is amazing.

We understand the reason why some people think it's over hyped.

It's not porn.

But even though it isn't porn- it's the best NON porn show out there.
 
great series! I can't believe i missed out on this while it was on tv, but since it was on Friday's and Friday's I was usually with my GF, oh well I have the series on dvd and it was great watching it. Serenity seemed a lot better now that I know who the main characters are.
 
Damn Circuit City for not having this properly marked. I couldn't remember whether it was at Target, Best Buy or CC where this deal was and stupid CC had it marked as on sale for $34.99.
