Firmware 2.00 released in Japan! Coming to US this week!

hey guys, just got psp and I just noticed I have a downloaded network update for ver 1.52....I didn't install it yet cuz I'm wondering if I'll be able to get the "homebrew" stuff I've been reading so much about...Also I was unable to connect online to Twisted Metal Head-on...is it b/c I don't have the ver 1.52 installed? Any help appreciated...thanks....
Im gonna try this update right now!!!

Damn i just realized that my psp is version 1.50.

Dont know if i should try to mess around with emu's first or update?

Question for vetz...

How is the snes emulation as that is the only thing i really care about? Thats the best emulation out right now right? If i could play mk and killer instict right now on it i might not update!
Snes is pretty good. I was playing Super Metroid with frameskip at 3 and it runs awesome.

ok so heres the next question..i only have the memory stick it came with... Can someone point me to the single stick tutorials? Is it worth it or to much of a hassle

I dont really care about the nes part..I can play those on my ngage every where i go
It's amazing how people get so nostalgic that they would take a laggy 20 year old 8 bit NES game over a fast, fully functional portable web browser and a ton of fun CURRENT generation games.

For $20 you can get a GBA cart that has all of the NES games on it.

And homebrew? With the new update you can do just about anything that the homebrew programs let you do, only better (and without constantly editing the bios or firmware).

And Grave_Addiction, what do you have against Sony? You are an Ngage fanboy for crying out loud! You have absolutely no room to criticize even the Virtual Boy!
Hah hah, I love the fact that you think I have something against Sony. That's laughable. All I've said from the very beginning is the PSP's library sucks, updating your firmware could be an unwise decision and the N-Gage has more features than the PSP. That's all I've said, and I stick with all those opinions.

Moreover, I'm actually trying to get a PSP to take with me to Iraq. And I've just recently bought a PSTwo, a DRE PS2 and I already have more PS2 games than any other system aside from the Dreamcast in my collection. So to say I have something against Sony is pretty funny.

And to say I'm an N-Gage fanboy is even more funny. I think you and a lot of other people on this site are N-Gage haters, and that's where the problem lies.

You know jackshit about the N-Gage yet you trash it like you know all about it. All you can ever come up with is some half-witted excuse about how the N-Gage sucks because it has a small, vertical screen. Wow, that really breaks a system, huh?

You think games aren't played good on a vertical screen? Well, I'll go back to my previous arguement that the new Sonic DS game will turn the two DS screens into one, big vertical screen. That has made many gamers in this site, including George Lucas, cream in their pants. So don't give me that lame-ass shit about a vertical screen being shitty. You're the one being shitty and doing a disservice to yourself by not being more open-minded and actually trying out and learning about a system before you make your prejudicial comments about it.

Single stick isnt hard at all, thats what I use.

www.pspupdates.com has all the files you would need. Go there and find a SNES emulator to download and do that.
After you do that unzip it and there should be 2 folders, one with a name and the other with the same name with an added % (so it could be SNES and SNES%) Copy and paste those in your PSP like this: PSP>Game>(put the 2 folders here). After that you just download the roms you want and put them in the folder without the %. Hope I said it in a not too confusing way :)

i think its great that we can even consider upgrading the psp. i don't believe the other handhelds have ever had such an option. hopefully this upgrade won't sepparate us psp cag's into two categories: the one5r's and the dueces. if so, i'll be a one5r. GO HOMEBREW!

also, i've invested into years of games and consols to equal a whole lot of money out of my pocket. so i can do whatever i want or don't want with what i own. i'm not harping on the legalities of you know what, i'm just saying, next time you put a blank vhs tape into your vcr and hit the record button when your favorite football/baseball/whatever team is playing, well, you're doing the same thing.

peace.

I have ready made files on my comp. PM me if you have AIM or Yahoo Messenger and I can send them to you :)

Edit: did you put it in the right spot? in the PSP folder there should be a Game folder and then put them in the Game folder.

Sounds like somebody's cranky because he screwed up his chance to run homebrew applications and emulators, and now wants to crap on everybody else's good time. Wah, wah, wah, cry me a river, little boy. And then go drown yourself in it.

It'd be foolish to update my firmware to 2.0 until it gets cracked (*if* it gets cracked, that is). All I do with my PSP, like a lot of other people that've posted in this thread, I see, is play Lumines, use all those nifty homebrew programs, and relive the glory days of gaming (now made portable!!) with those great emulators.

WebAIM?! That's pretty impressive. If I decide to update, I'll definetly get this.

I'm still back and forth on this I DL the Update but have yet to put in on... I don't know the EMU's are nice kind of I hate playing the SNES I got Mario RPG and SMW to run ok but still to laggy for I want to see.. NES is cool but I have that on my DC and my NES and my GBA so I dont know. but I havent tried any of the other EMUS (TurboGrfx, any Sega, and I saw a PS1 one is in the works and looking good ) I know I will be forced to update I do want to pick up GTA and maybe Madden, the Vids I saw on Gamespot (of madden) look much better than that Screen shot on here..

You really shouldn't worry about the emus running laggy right now. They will be optimized more and more and should run perfectly fine before too long.

try using 333mhz and 2-4 frameskip. With some games, try disabling transparencies.
Anyone found a streaming audio site that will actually work on the PSPs browser?
Here is another reason I want to upgrade .. Xm and Siruis work on there from what I have been told.. so I can have it at work and my Sat Radio also

I can tell you first hand that XM does NOT work. We tried and tried last night. It just wont let you do it as things are right now. I expect that it will sooner or later with new updates to the browser.

Since the PSP can run Javascript from files on the memory stick, the 2.00 firmware supports homebrew BETTER than 1.50!

A fast NES or SNES emulator could be coded in java!

There aren't really any homebrew games for 1.5, just emulators and pirated ISOs, and a bunch of really crappy excuses for homebrew games that nobody in their right mind would play.

Doom/Heritic/Duke Nukem
a PROPER Jpeg program
Chess (actually, i dont care about this one either)
PSP Kick (Mini Music Mixer)
Pac-Man
Tetris
Freecell
Snake
Quake (no-sound yet, but plays pretty good)

As far as EMU's go...
RIN - Gameboy - GB, GBC - Works near perfect, perfect for most
NEO-GEO cd - 60fps, perfect
DGen - Genesis - Small Frameskip, works fine
SNES.... - 2 emus being worked on - Plenty of great games work at full speed with frame skip of 3-4. Playable, not perfect, but very much playable. RPG's are slow as is, so there's not too much of a diffrence. Earthbound to go for once.

They are working on everything from browsers to ir transfers at the moment. Emulators are consistantly updated. The are still hacking into the system itself to use the GPU (which would drastically help every emu out there)

FOR ME, it's better to just stick with 1.5, enjoy all these new programs, and sit semi-patiently for a good PSP game to come along that requires an upgrade...and that seems to be quite a while.

The only way i'll update is if death Jr. forces it. but even then i might just buy another psp for that. plus, i'm a vintage collector so being able to play lufia, earthbound, startropics, final fantasies, punchout, metriod, chrono trigger, the old(and best) zeldas is worth the zero bucks i paid for my psp. so for a free system it's so afr the best.

oh, quackzilla, just because some of us like to play 20 year old games doesnt make you better than us. It makes you look like a kid who plays games that are hyped up and a kid that buys every single madden only to wathc the the value be worth as much as an old sega genesis game. classic gaming is were i am, and will always be. I like good games old or not.

OK, one quick question. If I use the browser on my schools wifi will I be blocked from all the sites blocked on the school computers?

Piss, moan, whine, whine, whine... I wish I had 1.50 firmware like the rest of you cool people!! I am empty inside, and the only way I can feel better about myself is by attempting to diss that which I want and those that have what I want!!

cant say for sure, but usually that is a browser thing. since psp is based (from what i read) on mozilla, you should be fine. unless they have stuff blocked at the source server. go try and let us know.

No witty comments? You made some pretty bold statements about N-Gage before, and people called you out...and you just ignore it. Why? I'd still love to know why N-Gage 'sucks' even though mine can do every single thing PSP can do.

I didnt read through all the posts, but on the Jap PSP site it says this....

CAUTION: This update is only for customers who obtained PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) for Japan which model number is PSP-1000 or PSP-1000 K. Upon completion of preparing, we will announce update information for the other countries/areas customers via SCE Group Web Site or other channels . For theses customers who obtained PSP® in the other countries/areas, please DO NOT update PSP® through this web site.

...... I have a 1001 release PSP. Am I still safe? Or should I wait for the US release?
