First impression: Wario Master of Disguise (Kaitou Wario the Seven) Japanese Import.

Well, yesterday my friend called me and told me that he bought this game from Play-Asia, but didn't really like it.
When asked why, he told me that it's more of the same: it's not really an action game like Mario or Wario world (GBA), but it's like the compilation of mini games. He told me he has already had a "Wario Ware Touch" and he's got enough.

To cut a long story short, I ended up trading my Boktai DS in for this game (I don't really like Boktai anyway).

And here is my first impression of this game (with many pics).

As my friend said, this game isn't really a game, but it's a collection of many mini games. I can say that playing this game is like playing Wario Ware Touch, but in a different approach.

In WW:T, you access to minigames by tapping the game's characters; each one has its own mini games; new mini games are provided by clearing each character's story. So we can say that the way to access mini games in WW:T is very straingthforward.

But in WMoD, mini games are hidden in chests which are placed all over the stage. Some chests can be found easily, but there are also many hidden ones. In this case you need to have some specific power to get access to them.
FYI, the new power will be unlocked automatically when you clear enough mini game. To use the power, you have to use the stylus to draw some shapes over Wario to have him transformed.

So the system of this game is like:
1. Find some chests and beat a mini game inside (if you fail, you can try as many times as you like until you clear it)
2. When the chest is cleared, you'll get scores; when you earn enough points, you'll gain a new power.
3. Use your new power to find more chests (like open the doors or fly over obstacles).
4. Repeat step 1 until all chests in the stage are cleared, then move to step 5
5. You have to beat an insanely easy boss to complete the level.
6. ... Well, next level, repeat step 1 again.

Even if I only play it for 3-4 Hrs, I'm quite sure that the whole game is not gonna be much different from these 6 steps.

Here are some screenshots (these pics are taken directly from my DSL, so I'm sorry about its quality).

This is a menu which you can use to select missions and access to your achievements list. (noting that there are tissues under the TV; I don't know what he watched last night  ).

Extremely easy boss fight (it's only stage 1 boss though).

You have to use one hand holding the DS and control the character's movement, while the other holding a stylus to attack, transform and play mini games.

Stylus can also be used to attack.

If you have any question regarding to the game, please ask; I'll see if I can help.

P.s. I don't really like this game (if you must know).

Thanks for the info. I was excited for this game, because I thought it was a Wario platformer. Now I'm not sure if I'll get it. Too bad, cause I love Wario. Please keep us updated on how the rest of the game is.

looks decent enough. iirc, the first boss of Warioland 4 was crazy easy, hell I kinda remember all the boss fights as pretty easy...but it's been quite a while since I last played through it though.

I curious about how many minigames there are... I may be the only person who wants the game MORE now after what you've told us :)) it doesn't look very Wario Wareish though :(

Now I'm at the 6th stage.
I can say that this game gets better in later stage. There are more platforms, more actions, more enemies and more difficulty in boss fight (yeah, some boss are "hard" ;)).

I think I started to like this game.

But one bad thing is that when you have 6-7 special powers, it's a bit pain to remember all the transformation commands (since you have to draw a specific picture on the screen to transform or use a special attack), even though these commands can be seen in the menu.

And you can go back to the very first stage after you've gained the new power and use your new power to unlock the new passage (metroid and castlevania style, but not as good, of course).

Plenty... This is what I can say. There are many chests in the game and mini game in each box is arranged in the random basis; I can tell you that I've never encountered the repeated one (they may have the same style like drawing, connecting dots or blowing the microphone but I haven't seen one that completely looks like the others).

So this kind of covers Warioware touched "territory" for those of us who may not be able to get that one?

Ooo, ty! Once you play one, does it then become unlocked to play on its own? Or no?

Of course, you can.
After you complete any mini game, it will then be moved to the mini game list in your achievements menu. You can chose any of them and play each one with a different difficulty.

Thank you very much for the info! I will have to check this out when it launches here.

I was disappointed w/ this game. I was hoping for a much-needed Wario Land sequel, but was instead treated to a stinker capitalizing on Wario's minigame success.
The map is a cool idea, but the level design is tedious and repetitive. Even the minigames get old; you'll find yourself coloring crap in over and over again. The pictures may change, but it's still the same freaking minigame!
The touch screen interface is cumbersome and the music is forgettable (a first for a Wario game).
I've had enough with Nintendo's forced innovation. I just want a classic platformer!

Nintendo dissapoints again.
They aren't taking there time, or they lost it.
All there platformers are a joke anymore. I really wanted to like newsupermario bros more, but the levels are too short.

If one were to import this game, is it playable to a non-japanese speaker? Or is it text heavy?

Sorry for the rise of an old thread, but I'm thinking or ordering it from Playasia.

Damn. I figured it would be the second coming of 2d Wario.

*sigh*

Guys, remember how awesome Warioland 2 was on the GBC? With all the hidden paths to different levels with different endings.

I know you guys remeber the sweetest path of all... staying the fuck in bed. I loved that genius crap to death!

Do you know what ?

I've already ditched this game (I sold it to my friend to get Hotel Dusk).
About your question, yes, you can play and pass most of the game without many problems, but there are some part that require you to input a japanese word, so if you're unable to read or understand the word, I'm sure that you may have a problem in that stage. I myself don't know any japanese too and also have a problem in that stage (this is the main reason why I ditched this game).

My recommendation is to WAIT till you get a US release since this game isn't a very good game anyway (but not a bad game either).

By the way, I'll get Bleach2 from Play-Asia tomorrow (I hope so...) can't wait to try it, and I'll post my first impression of it too. :)

Yeah. I didn't know a US release was so close- only like three weeks away. I'm gonna hold out. Thanks. :)
