First Question: 360 Pro

Warhammer: 3025

CAG Veteran
I'm going to be shopping for an xbox 360 this weekend (03/14/2009), my first console purchase since I got a 'Cube in '02. I'm looking for the best deal I can find in my area (Long Beach, CA) or online, and figured the best place to ask would be the magical/mysterious place called CAG. I hear the "falcon chipset" is more stable than the older versions, so I'd like to focus on that version if possible.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't gotten the response I'd hoped for (that is to say, any) so I've decided to share my own progress in finding a deal. The best bargain I've been able to find so far is at my local Gamestop, where for somewhere less than $300 dollars (more on the ambiguity later) I can pick up:

*Used 360 Arcade
*Refurb 60gb HD
*Charger Pack (charger cord + battery)
*2 used games

Because the refurb HD counts toward the "buy-2-get-1-free" deal going on this weekend, I essentially get 2 games for the price of one. I'm cutting the cost even lower by trading in my old 'cube (which hasn't seen use in some time anyways) and my small library of 'cube games.

if i was u i would consider buying the resident evil elite bundle, it truly is a good deal imo, if you can afford the extra money that is

I would recommend you NOT buy a used 360, they don't come with a very good warranty and the fact that Xbox 360's have a high failure rate theres a good chance you'll get one on its last leg. I would recommend a new 60GB Pro or even a Arcade with the refurb 60GB HDD. Trust me from experience it doesn't pay to buy a used 360. Good luck with your search, hope you find a deal.

Unfortunately, I can't. $350 is my absolute limit (and even that is pushing it a little).

I'll have to check the warranty papers when I get down to the store (thanks for the heads up). When I get the value on my trade-ins I could certainly see myself popping for a new xbox or extended warranty (depending on what the warranties themselves entail) if the trade-ins cover most of the cost.

yeah i would definately avoid buying used, and if im not mistaken used 360's only come with 90 day warranty i believe. oh and if you want hd cables to be included, go pro, arcade comes with standard 3 prong cable things

I don't have an HDTV. When I do pick one up, I can easily get a generic HDMI cable.

sure can good luck and hope you find a nice deal :applause:

If you're looking to do it cheap, get a NEW Arcade system. Then do the B2G1 sale for used stuff (HD, games). If possible, buy the system at Costco since their return policy/warranty rules.

Dell is the best price hands down. Search in the deals forum and there is a thread telling you all you need to know. Arcade for about 150 ish and 60gb bundle for around low to mid 200's. I'll add a link. Can't believe no one has mentioned this yet.

Link to the details of how to get a cheap 360 at dell.

Found this in one of the many threads in the deals forum on this deal. Everything you need is in that 1st post.
Can't find the arcade version on the dell website, just the pro and elite.
Get the Pro. Don't drop $300 on a used 360 even if you're getting extras. Also, you can get a $100 Dell gift certificate from ebay for $75. The ebay sellers usually send you the code for the certificate within minutes of payment. Then you can use the money you saved to take advantage of the B2G1 Gamestop deal.

The math:

DELL

360 + 60gig HD = $240
Tax = $20
Shipping = Free
Total = $260

GAMESTOP
360 = $200
60gig HD = $80
Tax = $23
Total = $303

I would be a fool to pass up Saving $40.

Toys R Us has a really good deal going on. Buy an XBox 360 Pro and Resident Evil 5 and get a $50 gift card and a 12+1 month XBox Live Gold Subscription. Of course this would require you selling RE5 (if you didnt' want it), the gift card, and the gold subscription.

Here's how it would break down...
XBox 360 Pro = $300
RE 5 = $60
Sales Tax = $20
Total Spent = $380

Typical Ebay sale prices
Gold Membership = $40
RE5 = $55
Toys R Us Gift Card = $40
Total Reimbursed = $135

$380 - $135 = $255, which is about the same price as the Dell deal. But if you want to Keep RE5, the live card, and put the $50 gift card towards another game, you come out with a better deal than Dell, and you can get it today.

Well, my travails have ended.

Final Tally:
Xbox 360 Pro Holiday Bundle from Dell = $260

Value of Gamecube turn-ins = $95

Adjusted cost of 3 games + Charger Cord after store credit = $18!

Total cost out-of-pocket = $288!

Dell is a good choice. My order from them took 2 days to get here. I placed it on Wednesday and it arrived today, and it's a Jasper!
Jasper?
The 360 has had 4 different chipset combinations. The Jasper is the latest, and began production in October (I believe). It uses a 65nm CPU and GPU, so it produces less heat and consumes less power than previous models.
