Violent Sword Game on Revolution

March 31, 2006

by: Phillip Levin

EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell AMN about an exclusive first-person game featuring swordplay and more.
Sources within Nintendo of Europe have confirmed for AMN that an un-named company will reveal a wholly exclusive action game involving swordplay, action and violence in the coming days to weeks for Nintendo Revolution.

We were told this project would feature themes including blood, violence and swordplay.

While the source AMN talked with was unable to reveal anything more, through talking to a number of other sources within the industry, we’ve learned that Ubisoft is currently developing an exclusive Revolution first-person shooter codenamed “Katana” for Revolution. This first-person game combines shooting elements with swordplay ones, according to sources. What’s more, it’s incredibly violent and adult-themed.

Readers should definitely note that we’ve been unable to confirm whether these two projects are related.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

Theres something awkward about having to say that it includes violence. Action and Sword game really sort of...includes violence automatically.

Obviously you have never played Pirate Pizza Kitchen

Seems like a joke to me, why else would they have to say it's violent like 12 times, and "katana" was the codename for the dreamcast (and why would you codename a game?).
the entire internet should be banned for the week leading up to April 1.
Agreed, I hate it.

That's what throws me right there. Stupidest quote ever if its true.
This only reinforces my theory that strapping the Revmote to my wang will make me nigh invincible!
Depending on where you do that, it'll only make you night unto arrested. ;)

That only encourages me further.

...Looks pretty damn good to me. Hopefully this will shut at least a few of the nay-sayers up.

EDIT: and the IR on the controller is round instead of flat on one side. Weird.

Looks good and fun, I'll be getting a revolution since it's all I'm willing to pay for. I'll be playing it on my TV while my brother plays his xbox360 on his LCD monitor (A good 12 or so inches smaller than his TV) just to have it in HD...

Wait, so is this real or a joke?

Why are those grpahics even better than most Xbox 360 games. I still have a bad feeling this is a April Fool's Joke that has somehow still remained alive.

I've never allowed myself to play a first person shooter on a console. Resident Evil 4 was the closest to thing to a shooter I've ever made myself play.

Finally there are console controls that dont need to be adjusted by auto-aim in the background.

I think it would be hard for a magazine to get away with this kind of joke without taking a huge hit as a consequence. A joke story is fine, but putting it on your cover is much too far. Many people will buy GI because of the cover, and you can expect a lot of angry people if they find out it is fake. Isn't Game Infarcer their April Fool's tradition? Pulling two jokes is cruel.

Good point. I remember being fooled by past EGM April Fools Jokes (they usually do a good job with them), but they were only a page or two. I guess this might be real after all (but man, those graphics look even better than Perfect Dark Zero or half the Xbox360 games. Is the Rev more powerful than we thought?)

Why are so many people amazed with these graphics? They don't look much better than most X360 games. What were you expecting with 2x the power of the GCN? N64 graphics?

They look really good, but they don't look super good like I'd think fake ones would look. You can see sharp edges, etc. so I can't tell if they're what the game will really look like or not. The effects look like they might be touched up or something like in photoshop, but I can't tell if it just looks like that because of the bad pictures or not (the fuzzy pics might be smoothing out stuff that's more jaggy).

EDIT: Maybe people having low standards for rev graphics will be a good thing when all the games look much better than expected. :p

I can hardly compare them to 360 games with those horribly taken pictures. Maybe there can be a better comparison when people get the see the magazine in their hands.

That's just it. So many of the Nintendo bashers have been saying, "Teh suckz! It's not teh HDz0rz!!" Even looking back as recently as the supposed leaked specs, on CAG and elsewhere, people were laughing and mocking that the Revolution was going to look like a spastic child used a crayon on the TV vs. the work of art that the 360 and PS3 will obviously be. I'll still be curious to have a Rev running in progessive scan and a 360 and a PS3 running in their ultra super high HD whatever and seeing what the differences are, especially in framerate.

Well the Xbox 360 looks fine, but everytime there is a new PS3 picture the graphics get worse and worse.

The Rev graphics look great and I won't have to have a HDTV to see that.

I was excited, but now I'm much much more excited. I wasn't worried that the system could handle great graphics.. anything system with more power than the gamecube (resident evil 4) is more than powerful enough. I was just worried about 3rd party support taking the system seriously and making kickass apps. This looks to be a huge step in that direction.

Now I can't wait for e3 and some videos.

I'm not excited about the graphics, I'm excited about the gameplay. I feel a videogame controller, to use a poor metaphor, has been a T-1000 experience, transforming into anything. Nearly anything. But now, that limitation upon the controller is lifted.
If a silly gangster/yakuza mashup can generate this much excitement- and damn, it is more exciting than another squad-based fps on the 360, the untapped potential is an awesome entity.
