I have seen plenty of guides to fixing the 72 pin connector on an NES but nothing about how to fix/clean a controller. Does anyone know how? Is it a simple open and clean what is dirty?

Just unscrew take apart and clean. Just a note though the rubber under the buttons starts to break down and rip over time. I buy up used controllers over time and try to put together working ones. Just something to keep in mind.

For the plastic I like to use q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol. A little elbow grease and some concentration on the ridges and edges can make the controller look like new. Dirt from hands loves to find its way into the little cracks, so disassemble the controller first (note what goes where if you really need to) to get all the hard to reach parts clean.
