Now's your chance to get another free HD DVD!

As you all know, the promotion was buy an HD DVD add-on get Heroes and 2 other HD DVD for free. Well, the new promotion is buy an HD DVD add on and get 3 for free. INJUSTICE!

If you go to the store, chances are the manager will turn you away. People are having luck calling 1-800-BESTBUY and explaining the situtaiton to them. I just did and they're sending me a giftcard for $35. Not bad.

So, call them up, explain nicely that the old promotion was two and now it's three and you would like your third, then go from there. If it doesn't work call back later.

ITDEFX: you really need to chill out. i searched but for some reason when i search i can not find anything. i have searched for my own topics and come up with nothing and sometimes when i search it literally just gives me html coding. since i didn't know what topic it was under i couldn't just read the topic since you gave no information.

i realize most or the flaming was not directed toward me.

all it was was a simple question that required an answer of i got the gift card as a rain check. thats it.

you have ripped on everyone in this thread some deserving some not but you really need to chill. this site is for people who want to save money. if they are doing it dishonestly that is their prerogative and should not be supported (no one in this thread has reported doing anything other than trying to beat the system, which should be encouraged).

you are tight though about a few things:

1. fw and sd people takes things to a new level of beating the system and actually ruin some things for other people with their greed.
2. you are right about the recording the conversation and if he calls back chances are he will get denied again.
3. ken might get in trouble and probably written up and all gift cards that were sent out might be deactivated but any he authorized that are not yet sent out probably will not be sent out.
4. you should not post customer service people names only because they helped you and you don't want to get someone in trouble for that because that might be the end of it (i realize you did not post the name but i am agreeing with you)

this is not meant to flame you or anyone else, just suggestions.
HMMM, not worth the risk of having the rebate voided... thanks OP though and power to those got their 3rd free movie.
I think you have LESS of a risk of having the rebate voided if you do it on the phone. I don't think they can cancel and recharge your CC without your authorization.

I called Customer Care since I had to place an order for the A3 for $99.99 and they said I had to go to the store..so thats what I'm going to do.
WHOA, there is a A3 for $99 ????!!!????
And where have you been? A3's were being substituted for A2's
you had to order the a2 from the best buy for business website but that ship has sailed.
Was available on regular bestbuy.com website first but that ship has also sailed

I was not going to try and get a third dvd, but disk 2 of heroes freezes on the 3rd episode on the disk, so I went to exchange that yesterday. They were out of stock and asked about the current promotion for 3 free hd-dvds and asked if they would match it. He told me to go get another movie. Anyone else have that issue with disk 2 of heroes. Its on the third episode on the disk (Hiros) at about the 25 minute mark. Thanks.

I was able to score the 3rd hd-dvd while trying to exchange my defective heroes HDdvds. Disk 2, episode 3 (hiros) froze and skipped at about the 25 min mark on the 360 addon. Anyone else have this issue. They were out of stock, so I will have to exchange another day.

I just called up the 1-800-Best-Buy number and was told I could bring my receipt with me to the customer service desk at my local Best Buy and that they would give me the discount. Worrying that the store might deny me, I lied and told the guy that I had actually already gone to the store and that they had told me to call him. He put my on hold and got in touch with my local Best Buy manager, and then they both came on the line and confirmed that if I brought an HD DVD and my receipt to the customer service desk I would get the HD DVD for free.

Thanks for this thread!

My disc 2 of heroes seems to want to freeze as well. It takes a few tries before the HD-DVD player will read it. Pisses me off, I was gonna go exchange my heroes discs but my local BB's are out as well (all 6 that are around me).

just to throw my hat in the ring, i'm gonna copy and paste what i posted in a different thread regarding this deal (on 11/06/07):

"okay, i'm confirming my own question from the other day: if you bought the 360 HD DVD/2 movies/Heroes set a couple weeks ago, you can definitely bring your receipt in and receive a third movie. i just did it this afternoon with no hassles. originally, i had purchased the HD DVD drive, Heroes, Polar Express and Batman Begins (no box-sets). today, i brought in only my receipt, went and picked out a movie (V for Vendetta) and headed to the CS counter. the girl there (with the help of a manager) refunded the original purchase to a giftcard, and then re-bought everything using the same giftcard.

as stated above, this isn't likely going to work if you had previously bought box-sets, but i had purchased two movies originally, so i was PM'ing the original, legit offer."

and to someone who was partially opposed to the idea of getting the third movie:

"no no, you're okay. there's nothing wrong with it. you're just price-matching. nothing sneaky, nothing questionable... if there was, i wouldn't have done it myself (hence my originally only buying two movies, and not two box-sets).

it's completely legit. i brought in my receipt and gave them the old "80s Circuit City commercial line",
"Two weeks ago, I bought this... and today I found this." the CSR and manager both understood the details precisely and were more than happy to honor the third movie.

so fear not. oh, wait -- you did buy two
single movies the first time, right?"

like we said before... IT'S NOT WORTH THE HASSLE. Those of us who got the box sets should just leave it at that. I really don't want to wait in line for 20 minutes for a manager to come by and say "You want us to give you another FREE HD-DVD after we gave you 300 dollars worth of hd-dvd boxsets for free the first time around?!?!" I am perfectly happy with my transformers hd, Planet earth, and heroes, kong dvd's.
like we said before... IT'S NOT WORTH THE HASSLE.
agreed. that was why i addressed that point in my posts. but if you did the deal by the books the first time, there is zero hassle and no reason not to nab your free movie.

If you take into the store it's not worth it, but if you call it is totally worth it. It took me 5 minutes on the phone and they're sending me a $35 giftcard. That's worth it.

I did it in store, it was so easy, they did not even ring them up, they just told the guy at the door to let me pass without a receipt.

that sounds screwy. they need to clear the items from their inventory either way, but what you describe sounds like they still technically have your 3rd title as "in stock". if that really happened, they sorta messed up.

He did scan the sku to keep their inventory correct but I didn't have to deal with receipts, returning, rebuying or any of that hassle.

I tried to do it in store. Completely denied by an extremely rude manager who basically said that I should not have been able to get the deal a couple weeks ago.

Called corporate and they apologized for the rudeness, but could not do anything more.

WTF?

Just wanted to give an update and say that I managed to get my free HD DVD yesterday! All I had to do was bring the HD DVD and my receipt to customer service and the girl rang everything up and then zeroed it out, no questions asked. This has been quite the fantastic deal.

did you choose 2 box set the first time? if you did, then you shouldn't expect a third title. if you only bought two single titles, you have every right to that 3rd movie.

I was denied over the phone....they said they do NOT match previous promotions. Oh well, I'lltake my box sets that I put on EBAY....I cannot return anything as it is gone. Made a small profit and I'll get 5 HD-DVD's.
