Grammar-

ok, it's a webforum. I understand that. I didn't capitlize the beginning of this paragraph - and here I used a hyphen wrong.

The aforementioned I can deal with.

But why don't we just set a few guidelines (and as I compose this post, I am aware of the potential ignorance of a certain population on CAG to which they may not be directly accountable) about grammar.

This is all I ask - The members of CAG attempt to use the words THERE, THEIR and THEY'RE (contraction of THEY ARE) correctly as well as the words YOUR and YOU'RE (contraction of YOU ARE).

Here is an example of how each word can be used:

There - as in "There are no english majors on CAG."
Their - as in "Their grammatical skills are terrible."
They're - as in "They're not going to be eating rabbit for dinner."

Your - as in "Your family does not value higher education."
You're - as in "You're clearly not equipped to be typing on a message board."

Now one my claim this to be anal or nitpicky considering the lacsidasical nature of "chatting" on a webforum. Some might claim that it is condescending or patronizing and to these people I would say that improper use of the terms at hand is just as bad or worse than 733t 5p34k or IM style acronymns (gr8! brb).

Not only is this improper execution an eyesore, it also seriously devalues any statement made by the person partaking in the blunder.

For example: If a young woman is on the Cheap Ass Gamer webforum and discussing a certain game or product, she should expect a certain level of respect on the basis that she is a human being and a member of the forum. On top of that respect, more respect or appreciation can be gained by contributing to the forum. Members who make valuable contributions (present party not considered in the least bit) gain more respect and appreciation. If said young female member presents her contribution and it is rife with grammatical errors so much so that it is either illegible or confusing, the case for appreciation or respect becomes fairly weak.

So when composing a post, please consider how goddamn fucking stupid your ass can look when you're writing like a ten year old 'tard. There are lots of books that can help your two-juice-box-contemplation-kit and point out obvious grammatical blunders that I guess you just missed in elementary school. Perhaps people close to you have knowledge about grammar and they're willing to bring some sort of sense to that amazingly dense shit dumpster you call a head. Their spark will hopefully light the way for that last semblance of civilization left that was somehow lost in the dense cloud of your vacuous mind.

Yours truly,

Making fun of peoples gramma on an interweb? Who woulda thought it? Next you'll be taking shots at Microsoft for having all the money and AOL for always disconnectiing your porn downloads.

I for one look forward to these future commentaries' and maybe when you talk about Microsoft you can use a dollar sign for the "S", Like this "Mirco$oft".

I have a Mac. I don't have AOL.

And apparently (judging by your post) I must have touched a nerve.

It's ok, Jimmie, I know people who were held back.

Ok....This is a webforum. Alot of our members are 13 years old or less. What should we do, ban them all? Wait, I like that idea!

As per the women factor...Ive never seen a problem (Aside from Leena, but she was nuts). vietgurl is the perfect example of a female poster who simply rocks. However, we don't have too many here (Maybe 3-4% of our total members?)

But I enjoy reading completely illegible posts, they're fun...

As long as a person is willing to clarify the meaning of his/her inane posts, I have no problem.

How many times must we bring this up? Most people are typing quickly and don't really think about it. It's one thing to make a post illegible with misspellings and bad grammar, it's another to misuse homonyms. It doesn't make someone stupid. I make mistakes all the time, god forbid, but it's really nothing to get bent out of shape about.

Fun for you, colon cancer for me.

Whether or not you find them fun, I'm sure you the content of the post suffers some when you come to a point and have no idea what they are saying.

You didn't touch a nerve, I'm just helping you calm down a bit.

People that do all the things you said, the things that annoy you, either don't know or don't care that they are doing them, so telling them to get help or buy a book isn't going to help. They don't care.

See, smiles.

: )

EDIT: Whoa, JimmyMac you look like Biff from Back to the Future, albeit less hefty.

There are very few posters whose typing is completely illegible. If you really can't handle it, the next time you see a post like that, block the user. You said yourself these people don't have opinions worth reading when they type like that. Stop being a whiner and take action.

I FOUND UR GRMMAR THESIS 2 B UTERLY FASCINATNG AND V3RY INSIGHTFUL!!1! OMG LOL THANK U

( ;) Sorry, I was in Gamefaqs mode)

people just don't want to learn grammer. this thread is just going to make more hooligans on this site show less grammer. I try, but not very hard. All I do is proofread and make sure the sentence is interpretable.

I have to agree with Lulu here. Most people make mistakes just because they are either typing fast, or are just not checking and editing their posts. Really, this is not such a big deal, and there is no good reason for you to complain at all.

In fact, everyone probably already noticed that your post also has several errors in it. This one sentence has two grammar/spelling errors, but is also just constructed poorly.

I imagine that nobody pointed this out because, as has been said, this is just an internet forum, and grammar is not really as important as content.

It's assanine to complain about grammar...
If you can pretty much get what the point is, that's all that matters...
It has nothing to do with being immature, some people just don't have the time to sit here examining our posts with a microscope, therefore mistakes are inevidible...
However, you doing this, opened you up for all kinds of criticism...

"Fun for you, colon cancer for me.

What the hell does, "I'm sure you the content of the post......", did you mean, I ASSURE you???
If so that's MUCH worse than a simple "your, youre, there, their" thing...
Stop complaining and just enjoy your own life, and the genius that you seem to think of yourself as...

This is great advice. This topic shouldn't even have been started.

You should only correct other people's grammar and tell them they have a "dense shit dumpster for a head" if, at the very least, you make no grammatical errors yourself. Seeing as how you failed to do so, you come off looking like a fool and a total asshole.

I think you mean ASSURE not SURE, asshole!

Exactly. From here on out, you can be certain that people will literally comb through and critique/tear apart every post you make.

I personally think that it was a very unwise choice to make this topic.
