The wife and I went to the movies some 45 minutes away from home. There was a ebgames across the street so I popped in (yeah I'm a romantic kind of guy :) )and bought Loco Roco and Capcom Classics Reloaded for PSP after the movie. I was in a hurry to get home since we had a sitter taking care of the 2 kids. I sat down tonight after the kids were in bed and guess what? I bought 2 empty boxes. This eb isn't near any place I go to during the week and I have no way of going there at all for a couple of weeks minimum. I'm pissed to say the least. I need to call this store in the morning and try to get them to mail the games to me. This sucks. Why gut new games?

Was it already rewrapped? That's really odd. Yeah that sucks, hopefully you can get it and they won't pull some bs with you.

That happened once to me at Media Play. NHL Hockey (whatever year it was) was on sale for $30 the day it came out. So Sunday morning I drive over and pick up a copy. It rings up $50 so I show them my flyer and they act like I printed it up myself (if I wasted the time doing that it would've been less then $30 and would've been a better title. Eventually they give it to me at the advertised price. I get out into the car and am about to leave but theres some old lady and her kids playing behind my car. So I decide to open the game. I remove the shrink wrap and the security label, pop open the case. No game, no instructions. Went back in expecting another argument but they just apologized and went and took the game out of some other case and gave it to me.

CHECK YOUR SHIT BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE!!!

Gamestop people are only human (though some say otherwise ;) )
I normally do, but that's not the point. Why is to onus on me to make sure my new product is actually complete? I guess I screwed up not checking in my haste, like I said I had a sitter with the kids and I needed to get home. I'm not going to go into the tired GS/EB employees suck rant because we already know that ;) . It's just a stupid thing to open new products and gut them. I can only imagine if I was some guy who didn't know about the gutting procedure buying this for my kid's birthday or Christmas way ahead of time (like I do other presents). WTF could I do about this a couple of months later when they unwrapped their gifts.

Seriously, do you check your "NEW" products before you leave Walmart? Before you leave the grocery store? No, you expect a "NEW" product to be in its packaging.

But since it's a gutted copy, you should know that they took the disc out. I know I check to see if the disc is in the case before I leave, just so I don't have to make another trip to that store. OP, did the employee even check behind the counter? Find it odd that the employee would just scan the boxes.

I really have no idea. All I know is that I was handed the bag and I walked briskly to the exit.. I normally do check when I get to the car, but I was rushing home.

I hear ya. This new practice of game stores opening new games really annoys me. "Let us open this game, man-handle the disc/DS cart/instruction manual/all other inserts inside, maybe even forget to put the crap back in, cheat you out of the thrill of that 'new game smell' and, yet, sell it as 'NEW'"

I don't think so.

I'll go to Best Buy or Circuit City, thank you.

Are we talking about Walmart? Noooo.. We're talking about EbGames and electronics / video game store when have been known since forever that they gut games.

You don't see grocery stores gutting 20lb turkeys as noone in thier right mind would attempt it. CD are small and easy to steal. Eb/Gamestop are a drop in the bucket compared to walmart in revenue where they CAN afford to put security tags on everything. They don't hinge thier profits exclusively on videogames as EB/GS does.

So stop comparing apples to oranges (or turkeys to xbox games) ;)

Now that you mention it, I find it amazing how often I see scratches on gutted copies.

EB/Gamestop always puts empty cases out for display for used AND new games. You have to make sure the clerk actually remembers to search for the disc behind the counter and put it in your case (sometimes they actually have a sealed copy of the game behind the counter to give you). I've had several clerks there try to send me out the door with empty cases but I usually check. They are also bad about selling you empty DVD cases, putting the wrong DVD in your case, or only giving you 1 disc of a 2-disc set.

Why would anyone even bother to buy a "new" game at eb/gamestop? It usually has been opened, has scratches from the crap cardboard sleeve they put it in and the prices on new are the same as everywhere else. Also if you go elsewhere you do not have to listen to the inbred behind the counter ask you about the edge card and pre orders. When consumers get smart, eb/gamestop will fold!!!!
When consumers get smart

I really have a hard time believing that it will ever happen. For every smart consumer, there are at least 5 that aren't too smart. Maybe 5 is too small of a number though, could be more like 40 or more to 1.

As far as why shop there...instant gratification, although not in this instance for me. I am slowing moving towards just CAG, Goozex and Sayswap. The store was there and I wanted 2 games.

Back on topic, that store shipped the games to the GS right near where I work. Should be in today.

Well in the case of some games like Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, the only places that carried the game (at least, when it came out) were Gamestop/EBGames and Gamecrazy... so there, there isn't too much of an option. I lucked out and got a sealed copy though.

bought mario party 4 or 5.... brought it home it had hulk in the case... assholes, then they tried to pawn me off on a resident evil 4 preview disk to make me less mad bs took me over 30 min to fix that one cuz i had to drive back.

They did get my 2 games in today. I promptly returned them and applied the credit to the 360 Premium I bought. I felt bad about it but they're cool at my GS. These guys have a major thing against PSP so they were glad to "help" me.
