So heres the story. I was sitting at home the other night and I was doing some late night work and my Winamp shuffled me some Queen Night at the Opera, the song? Bohemian Rhapsody. Now before you say, OH everyone picks that song, I had to point it out because it just happened to come on. I have been playing drums for 14 years now (God i am getting old) and playing in just pick up bands, this is significant because after listening to the song I started it over and really listened to it. Listened to the way it was arranged and put together and the song is fucking amazing really. Than I read the story of how it came to be and I was even more amazed. So I have busted out my old tapes and cd's and converted them over to my iPod and been listening to Queen for the past 3 days straight and I thought to myself "Will anyone ever top this sonovabitch?" Seriously, he is just an amazing front man. Although he is one fruity mother fucker when you look at him, that snaggle toothed bastard can SING. He was energetic, he had charisma, he had everything you could want from a front man (minus the aids i know not funny). The only low point of Queen would have to be their drumming, it was always uninspired and boring.

I discovered Queen when I found a tape that my brother had left at home when he moved out and I thought "Queen: Sheer Heart Attack, man they look like girls" I ended up listening to it and fell in love with it instantly. I couldn't stop listening to it, I asked for every Queen album and eventually got them and I really haven't not liked any of there stuff. Sure some of it was not as good but most of it was great.

So I am hoping that we can have a conversation of great frontman's or women. Also, share you first Queen experience I am curious how everyone discovered them.

My personal favorite song: Such amazing guitar

In before AI-- oh.

gonna read that story about Bohemian Rhapsody. You're right-- it's one of those songs you've heard so much, but never stop to think "hey, they straight up melded opera, classical arrangements, and rock for that song..."
Rivers Cuomo. The statue front man.
I had to look that person up, but you're kidding right? Seriously? I'm not trying to offend but comparing Weezer to Queen let alone that frontman? :booty:

Well retards tend to make that sort of comparison, to them absopure and toilet water are the same thing.

And to answer your intial question, no. Never.

Rivers Cuomo couldn't command an audience like this in his wet dreams:

that man would sleep with anything that would fit in his bed, its a shame because if he didn't we might be still be able to see him in concert

I meant Rivers sucked. Hence why I called him a statue. You started with the best, I figured I might as well throw in a crap front man for comparison.

Dude I've never seen that video, thanks for posting it! That was crazy when it get to the clapping.

Another thing I've noticed about Mercury is when he's live he sounds just like he does on the record. Lmao Rivers Cuomo...oh man.. I happen to see Weezer live on accident by seeing some other band and they were TERRIBLE live, you can tell he has asthma. After reading your above post I retract my statement. Internet makes sarcasim hard....

You're wrong on the fact that Weezer is terrible live. It's well documented through hundreds of bootlegs that they sound pretty much as the same as their albums regardless of the quality of the actual music.

However a drunk passed out hobo has more stage presense than Rivers Cuomo.

but we will never see another Freddie Mercury.
Cedric Bixler-Zavala.
I was thinking that. Amazing energy, great voice, and a pretty damn good stage presence/antics too. He went into the crowd of my last show and he slobbered on people, saying "it's because I love you guys" He doesn't have nearly the same widespread appeal of Freddy Mercury though.

OP, your name is Maynard and you have the gall to ask if there will ever be a frontman better than Freddie Mercury?!! How dare you diss Mr. Keenan.

In my opinion, no. He was a rare blend of stage presence and amazing vocal talent.

The closest I think we've seen is Prince, who is also an incredible performer. But more of an individual than a front man.

I seriously doubt it. Freddy was amazing in every sense of the word. Everytime I watch the Wembley Stadium concert I get goosebumps.
They're out there, they're just hiding. Rather, not being pushed to a mass market, to be more precise.
Yeah. Right.

I got into Queen when Wayne's World came out, yeah I know.. Anyway, I got their greatest hits and it wasn't until I got older did I really get into them. Now, they are one of my favorite bands ever. I've since gotten all their albums and in fact have them in my car right now. I don't think we will ever find anyone like Freddie again. That isn't to say there aren't any good singers out there..there are many. just none like him.
My personal favorite song: Such amazing guitar
Brian May is an AMAZING guitarist. He has the technical skills to tear shit up with the best of 'em, but he's no wanky, one-trick, speed-fingering machine, either.
Actually Bono was correct, he is the best frontman out there overall currently.
Thank you. His musicianship, plus the humanitarian work that he does puts him near the top of the list currently. Plus, I've never been to a U2 concert, but I've seen plenty of videos. That band can really get a crowd going.
Actually Bono was correct, he is the best frontman out there overall currently.
Who's next on your list, Scott Stapp? :puke:

Answer: no.

While late Queen got to be pretty crappy (Show must go on/Invisible Man/etc), I have never seen anyone with the stage presence of Freddie Mercury. His performance at Live Aid makes my hair stand on end to this day. I love a lot of the front men mentioned in this thread (Maynard Keenan, At the Drive-in/Mars Volta guy), but they are not the charismatic figure that Freddie Mercury was.
