so when you add insults, its "adapting" to the text of the posts, but when i respond to insults with my own insults, its "being an idiot" or a "tool" as some nerds might say.
You're posting on a VIDEO GAME site...I sincerely doubt you've got any room to call anyone here a "nerd," you tool.

You guys want to talk about morals? Stop f.ucking downloading those ROMs and then come back here and talk about "morals."

Seriously, where the hell do you (Gothic and st0neface) come off saying someone is this and that when you do something just as wrong.

To quote Gothic Walrus, "stealing is wrong, you ass. You're a ****ing disgrace to the gaming community. It doesn't matter if you got away with it...it's still illegal, and very much so immoral. "

Hey cracka, calling you an idiot wasn't an insult, it was an observation, and the trained monkey was comparing your intelligence to JSweeney's so it was an accurate analogy. I still don't know why you think it's such a bad thing that some of us here have morals.

damn, u hit me hard with that post, but i think i might survive.

I like how you state that you have morals, but u do it in a way to make it seem like i've done something to show that i dont have morals. If you werent so busy hittin up 1st graders for insults, and read what i've said, i've already stated that i dont agree what was done, and that i myself wouldnt do it.

Damn i cant wait till i have over 1,000 posts. It seems that if you have less than that many, and you insult someone, you get bashed, but if you have over 1,000 people stick up for you when you insult others.

You're posting on a VIDEO GAME site...I sincerely doubt you've got any room to call anyone here a "nerd," you tool.

This may be shocking to you, but not all gamers are nerds! I know its hard to believe, but its true.

People like this guy make me sick. I sure hope MS finds thier error and then bans his ass and has him arrested for fraud,

I have mentioned that I played ROMS before, but that was four or five years ago. I was in eighth grade, was gullible and the site I got them on said if you deleted it before 90 days, it was legal. I bought that excuse at the time, but as soon as I found out it wasn't legal I deleted all my roms and emulators. I'll admit I screwed up and did it in the past. The fact is I don't condone it now, and feel I can criticize people, as I didn't know it was wrong, but these people know it is wrong, and continue doing it. Looking back I did deserve to get penalized for doing it, but maybe all the ranting about it will sway one person from doing the wrong thing, I'll feel better that I have somewhat redeemed myself.

im sure it wont be too hard for MS to pinpoint a sketchy recent account done by phone in pittsburgh, penn.

and im sure a few people that did trades with him wouldnt mind disclosing his address or paypal or even email if MS offered rewards for busing frauds and scams

Then you gave a bad example. If the example itself isn't valid, it doesn't go very far in proving your hypothesis.

do u know the meaning of the word figurative?

You angry at me because of how others treat you? Exactly how does that make sense?

point me to the part where i said i was mad at you for this? i simply asking a question.

Again, directly attacking me based on the comments of others. That doesn't really help your credibility.

1. i wasnt even directly talking to you at that point.
2. it wasnt an attack period.
Again, unless a large number of people did this exploit, it would likely go unnoticed...
I doubt it; they'll know once they read my email. :)

That's enough from me on this matter.

Having run a quick search on the site, I noticed a few things...

-I've never said that I actively download roms (I don't; I used to, though)
-All of the roms that I have downloaded in the past are for defunct systems that I own

It's still illegal, but I don't see anything morally wrong with downloading a rom for a Genesis game that I own that's stopped working

This...this is something else entirely. There is no moral gray area - this is flat out wrong. Hell, this is arguably much worse - this one call could have cost the employee who took it their job.

o yay Dudley responded again with yet another smartass comment. lets take a look at your post Dudley.

this would be like someone saying hey if u call walmart and tell them that they gave u $10 in change instead of $60, they'll say they're sorry and give u $50.. i mean if somebody told me that, i'd do it.

1. This is not based on nor using a figure of speech. This is not a metaphor for anything.

\Simi"*le\, n.; pl. {Similes}. [L., from similis. See {Similar}.] (Rhet.)

Definition: A simile is a figure of speech that, like metaphor, compares unlike things in order to describe something. Similes do not state that something is another thing, however. Instead, they compare using the word "like" or "as." Some scholars refer to simile as a type of metaphor.

Now that we see that what i said IS a figure of speech, and therefore it IS a figurative example, i would like to say that i dont care how much u criticize it. If it helps you sleep at night to criticize something that was said figuratively, then go ahead. It is the fact that you try to make me look like i didnt know what i was talking about.. which i obviously did.. when i said it. Also you still dont seem to grasp the concept of a figurative example, but i'm not about to waste my time explaining it to you.

If you own, then it IS legal..

I never said when I stopped, but yes, I really didn't consider it wrong until later on in some of those threads, perhaps later ones. I'm sure subconciously that the 90 day thing was bull shit, but wanted to believe it, so that I could ignore what people said about it. I already have, and will so again, say I don't do it anymore, and now believe it's wrong. I didn't exactly have the highest morals up until the end of last year. I used to think things like downloading roms and movies was okay, as was doing illegal drugs. I then started looking at what my friends who did it, and they went from doing that to outright shoplifting to pay for the huge amounts of drugs they did. I'm glad I moved when I did, and even though I talk to these people over IM, but they aren't really my friends. I saw that I could easily become like them, so I stopped doing anything that was illegal, no matter how ignored by others they were. So, I have people like you, YAB, to thank for showing me the error in my ways. I could have become a much worse person, I really didn't even have my life in order, I had no real plans for the future, but now I'm joining the military, so I can use the GI bill to go to college, and actually make something for myself. So basically, in the past 4 months, I've turned my life around, some of my influence has been due to people on this site, and think maybe I can influence someone as I have been influenced.

Actually, I never did what I posted I had a feeling it might work so I posted to see if anyone would try it and post back that it worked, then I was gonna give it a try. I no longer need to I stopped at my local Blockbuster and they had 2 free 1 year subscription cards out of the 10 SC:pT thay had so the girl behind the counter was like "take them if you want them I dont care".

So all you CAG with high moral standards need not worry I am stiil a 100% law abiding citizen.

To Microsoft:

Recently while browsing Cheapassgamer.com, I've discovered a scam that one of their members has used to steal a year of Xbox Live for free from Microsoft. The user, ajh2298, called up MS and told them his year renewal card wasn't working, and the MS employee credited him with a year of XBL, no questions asked, despite him not having any renewal code. Here is his post:

"I was thinking if this would work today while I was at work, came home and gave it a try and it worked no problem.

Here is what I did I was thinking how do the people know at
1-800-4MY-XBOX know if you have a 2 month trail code or the 1 year free code. So I called when I got home and said I just bought SC:pT and it came with the 1 year XBL code(I only got the 2 month code, when I bought it), and gave a BS story on how I heard on the internet that the 1 year codes were not working if you punched them in, and you had to call to get them to add on the free year. She said no problem added the year to my account and never even took the code off of me(which remember I never had one in the first place, I only have 2 month codes).

The next part is even cooler I called my brother, about an hour later, and told him to give it a shot and it worked for him also, no problem(the only thing is they asked for the code and he had a 2 month one lying around, and he read it to the guy and was like ok I just added the free year onto your exsisting account) .

This might be a YMMV kind of scam but you never know.

Also before you flame me for scamming Microsoft, remember I am scamming Microsoft I think they can afford it."

Although I can't supply ano information on him, I'm sure if you investigate the matter further, you can easily pinpoint him and, hopefully, ban his XBL account. Just wanted to bring this to Microsoft's attention, and I hope something is done to correct this in fairness to paying customers like myself.

Aznboy, you're way off-base posting that. Not only are these quotes almost a year old but they are off-topic. Roms may be wrong under copyright law, but even that that thread you linked to is iffy on whether it is morally wrong. There is a fine line between what is morally and criminally wrong.

Gothic Walrus said he had in his possession the original games. Under a technicality of copyright/software law, he may be negligient but whether it is morally wrong is doubtful. st0neface admitted his fault, and said he doesn't play roms any more, so what else do you want? Have you not done anything wrong that you're allowed to comment on morality and no one else - especially those two aren't? Everyone has a chance to 'clean up their act', like GW and st0ne said they did, and like the original poster can do (but probably won't). The best we can do is stay on-topic and follow the laws and guidelines of the boards like good cheapass citizens. =P

Why do I even bother?

magilacudy, I don't think you understand what I'm trying to accomplish here. I'm simply trying to point out the inconsistancies in standards, and to reveal the hypocrisy exhibited by several members of this community who post condescending drivel in an attempt to look morally superior.

By the way, those quotes aren't even 5 months old. And, I posted that link for several reasons, one of which was to further prove my point that there is either a double standard, or people are just being hyporcritical.

I don't understand why anyone gets so worked up over this stuff. It's obviously not a very moral thing to do, lying to a company to get free service....but I don't think it's really stealing either. They chose to accept his BS story and give him the extra time....I think stealing cards out of a Pandora's Tomorrow box at blockbuster is a lot worse, you're actually taking something that doesn't belong to you. Everyone chill with the moral superiority.....
