Free 160 microsoft points and 48 hour trial e-mail

Well if the person who used the code hadn't used it rest assured it would have been gone from some lurker taking it seconds later.

Now this raises the ethical question, did dotCody do the right things by telling the OP? Although honest, the OP now knows that he did something really stupid and gave away a working code. If he had never been told he would have just kept assuming it didn't work and never would have known any better one way or another. Ignorance would have been bliss. I think he did the right thing, and 95% of people here would have stolen the code without hesitation, don't deny it.

I think he did the right thing, I was pretty mad, But not necessarily at him. I was mainly angry because i just dragged the image that said "Sorry, the code is no longer valid" or what ever it said from the e-mail and dropped it into the thread. I had no clue it could actually change to the picture of the code, And also i had no idea the code would even ever come back.
I was also angry because I've never gotten an e-mail from microsoft with any sort of code in it so i was pretty excited.

Overall it was my fault. He did the right thing by saying that he used it, I would have been really angry if someone got it and didn't even tell me they used it.

I hope he got that picture pack he wanted with it, I'm not angry and looking back i get a good laugh out of it.

When I was reading the OP, I of course assumed that he posted the code AFTER redeeming it.
What are the chances that someone would have the knowledge/ability/desire to TAKE A PICTURE OF THE CODE AND UPLOAD IT but not redeem it?

dotCody did NOTHING wrong - if I'd been up last night and reading this, I was going to copy/paste the code in to see if it was a multi-use code (yeah, fat chance but hope springs eternal).

tankyroo had a brain fart - no big deal, he just got 160 MS points of education. :)

And like a previous poster, I got a 48-hour code when the Halo Defiant map pack was released (no 160 code, though - that'd be sweet).

I didn't post the code before i redeemed it, I couldn't redeem it because instead of the code it had the little thing saying "Sorry, the code is no longer valid" as you can see in the picture of the e-mail i posted. But the picture i posted in the main post changed to the picture of the code. It was probably just a glitch that made it say it wasn't available then later it changed but was hosted in the same url so copying the image copied the url and the image changed on the site therefore making the image change in the main post too.

Edit: And this all happened because i just dragged the image from the e-mail into the post instead of saving it and uploading it to another site.

That probably made no sense.

It should be noted that the OP's problem was not that he posted the code, but he posted the direct link to the code.

He did, because (and anyone that refreshes the first page might notice) there are moments were the code doesn't appear and just a black box with a message saying that "the code is not there" appears. He posted that, because it was what appeared on his email when he went to use it. And he was wondering why would he receive an email about points, just to have a message saying that there's no code.

So is not like he did it on purpose, give the guy a break.
If anything, a lesson for the OP next time...post a print-screen'd picture of the email and not a direct link. :bouncy:

got AN email about the escalation map pack, but just a normal advertisement, nothing special .... they're gonna make me buy a 2100 card for the 80 i need for the 2 castlevania's aren't they

tankyroo did screw up, but I can see why he did what he did. Why would he have assumed that the message he received would've changed into a code when he posted it here?

dotCody...you're a douche. You owe tankyroo.
If you saw the code beforehand, you would have entered it for shits and gigs too just to see.

That's all that dotCody did.
You don't know me so you telling me what I would've done holds no weight.

U mad bro?

There's no need for anyone to throw blame around here. Both the OP and the guy who redeemed the code made an error, but in each case he had no reason to suspect he was doing anything wrong, and both have owned up to it. Furthermore, the OP has no hard feelings toward the redeemer. It's all good, and we can all get a chuckle and learn a small lesson out of it.

Telling people they owe someone something or that they're a douche or about to receive hate mail is completely out of line. Don't bash someone under the pretense of coming to the defense of someone who's said he doesn't mind what happened. Doing so is misguided at best and being a complete jerk at worst.

What is or is not out of line is subjective. My intent was not to come to the defense of tanky...it was my opinion of the situation. I'm allowed to express it whether you guys like it or not. So I'm not misguided or a jerk...you just don't agree with my opinion.

No, are you? I'm not picking a side, both are at fault but oh well. Opportunity knocked and someone answered.

You're a Try Hard.

I'll admit, it was pretty stupid(and funny) to post the e-mail with the code before redeeming it, but it was a lapse in judgement, nothing more! Honestly, it wasn't that big of a deal anyway, at least not as much as some people are making it out to be(i.e. Kirk), it was only 160MSP, if it were the actual map pack itself then, maybe it would warrent most of these comments. Either way, we had a laugh(maybe not the OP), no doubt, but I think it just got blown out of proportion, that's all!

God, dotCody! You're a douche-but-licker! You took a code that the OP mistakenly posted! It's not like everyone on this site would have entered it a soon as they saw it! You should be hanged, drawn and quartered! Expekt a cupple hundred of mad bros to fill yur inboks wit h8mail! Grrrr, rawr! Scratch, bite, kick, grrawr! God, I am so mad, bro. Madder than a accidentally-code-dropping snake!

THe part that amuses me most of this thread is NOT what he said. (which I laughed the first time) It's that his first post STILL says "Edit: WTF, I just went to redeem the 160 msp code and when i looked at the e-mail it says:" which then points to a code LOL.

Anyways... I dont see the problem. This is a contest and freestuff forum. This might have been the wrong place to post the problem in the first place.
I haven't gotten any email from MS...
Me neither and I checked 4 different email accounts I have. Really sucks to because the one time I actually need a 48 hour trial, I can't get one. When I don't need them, they fly at me lol

I think you need to have played the game recently. They're not handing this out to non Black Ops players. I got the Halo: Reach one after I played it, no free MP though.

I think I dont deserve anything from Microsoft...

...considering I have free Xbox Live from Netflix promo past the day the world ends

Still no 48 hour or MSP, I play lots of Black Ops and no dice?
Kirk, is there a reason you seem to be obsessed with this or something, brother? It's all over.
Misfortune happening to others instead of himself, perhaps?
