Free $20 GC with $10 donation at K-mart until 11-17-07 YMMV

CAGiversary!
Okay, I searched for this but didn't see it. If this is a repost, please delete it.

Although this isn't strictly a video game deal, the gift cards can certainly be used on games to effectively take 50% off the cost of the game.

Kmart's running a donation drive for the American Diabetics' Association, and part of the drive is that they'll match every $1 with a $2 gift card up to a $10 donation/$20 Gift Card. The donations are done through the pharmacy.

Also, you're only supposed to be able to get 1 per customer according to slickdeals, however, the guy at my Kmart told me I could do it however much I want.

$30 Mario Galaxy here I come.

Good idea to stack up for their Thanksgiving sale. $250 HDTV here I come.

Call your local Kmart first, Looking at the SD thread it looks like Kmart is yanking the deal due to overwhelming response. I would have jumped on it but the Kmarts around me shut down some time ago.

The one at Dobson and Broadway in Mesa, AZ is stil doing it as of this morning. I hope to get enough for the TV. If anything this is an extremely cheap way to get new releases and... well anything really.

I can just see it now.

Anyway I hate K-mart, the stores look like they are a step away from being abandoned. Also I had an extremly bad experience there were they refused to give me a return on a perfectly valid item, and since then I'm boycotting them.

Why buy it for $30. You can get it at Toysrus for $50 with Free $25 gift card.

Because he'll be paying $30 out of pocket instead of $50.

holy shit, thats where I grew up. You have to have a bullet proof vest and a taser to go in there anymore. I got scared last month when I was down there visting family and I went into that kmart to get a storage container.

Mesa is all right. I will agree there is a lot of ghetto areas with gang-like people walking around.
Phoenix is scarier, with their two lane roads and roads that go one direction at a certain time of the day and another direction the other part of the day. :whistle2:#
Anyway, this donation scheme got canceled hardcore. Oh well.

Tax.

I wouldn't doubt it. In truth, they should have taken down the customers name (ID) to prevent abuse of the GC.

Actually no.

You spend $10 to get the $20 so you are really only getting a $10 free. So a $10 discount. $40 for a $50 game.

or look at it this way:

Game: $50
+ $10 to buy gift card
=============
$60
- $20 gift card
=============
$40

Lukewarm deal. Definitely sounds better than it is.

What are you talking about?

First of all, with tax, lets say the game is $54

You get $2 for every $1 donated.

So donate $27, and get $54 in GC (may have to donate it in $10, $10, and $7 chunks)

Use $54 GC on game. Game costs you $27

Well if stores are cancelling the deal entirely I doubt you will find a store that will sell you three cards.

Your math remindes me of an old math logic puzzle:

http://www.classbrain.com/artaskcb/publish/article_232.shtml

The problem with your math is that you aren't counting someone who is stacking giftcards. Using only one $10 donation, you are getting 20% off your total cost in the end. Using 2 $10 donations, you are getting 40% off your total cost in the end. Using 2 10$ and one $5 donation you are getting 50% off your total donation in the end. This all depends on if they will let you stack your giftcards though.

what item can you donate? just clothing? can i donate electronics stuffs? and do u get $1 for whatever item you donate?

thanks

You're donating money, not stuff. But if you have some good electronics and want to give them to a diabetic, my dad is diabetic and likes electronics :p

Yeah, Math:

$50 game - 20% off coupon = $40.

2 $20 GC for $10 each = $40 GC for $20 spent

Total amount spent is $24 (okay, overshot it on the $30). Plus, the credit is used immediately, instead of $50 out of pocket for a $25 GC that will have to be used later.

Just called my three usual kmarts that i go to for deals. They all said this promotion was discontinued yesterday. :/

Yeah, I called yesterday morning and they said the GC deal was canned a while ago. But you can still donate for charity, just no GC. Thread should probably be locked.
I was going on the basis "limit 1 per customer" as stated in the first post.
This is CAG...since when do any of us listen to limits? We'll hit it up in the morning then the evening just to get different people on duty and then try again the next day!

My cousin worked at one and was making decent money, they then fired her for illegal reasons I won't get into and she's sueing their ass. It seems that the lawyers think the case is great but it's moving so slowly, she was 18 months ago.

Yeah unfortunately that's how our justice system works. Usually the large corperation that can afford a lengthy legal battle wins.

I'm surprised KMart can afford anything these days.

I'm going to try this out tomorrow. Hopefully the promotion is still going strong, as well as that 20% any item in the store deal. ;)

I tried at two kmarts. The first didn't know of the deal but I told them they should have received info about it in email, so the (very nice) women looked it up and found it, but it turns out it it wasn't it - it was just a flyer about donating to the ADA, but without any mention of gift cards. No deal.

The second place called another place and they said the deal had been ended two days ago. I'm still going to try another kmart on Tuesday which is across from work so it's no problem. They had told me on Wednesday that they would have it set up on Friday. I don't doubt, though, that they've since gotten word that this deal was pulled. I'll try anyway since it's convenient

Hey all, first post. I picked up a handful of the kmart flyers with 20% off coupons, so for those of you looking to stack your gift cards with an extra 20% I'd be happy to ship one for 5 bucks. Send me a pm if interested. Thanks!
