UPDATE:
Amazon is offering up a 3 month trial of Amazon Prime if you simply place $100 worth of textbooks in your cart.

According to Amazon, you don't need to actually order the $100 worth of textbooks.
It says you only need to "Add $100 worth of eligible textbooks to your cart to sign up" for the free three month trial.

This book is over $100 and should do the trick.

  • Add the above book to your cart and go through the checkout process and select "FREE Two-Day Shipping with a Free Trial of Amazon Prime"
  • Confirm your free 3-month trial and don't place the order.
This offer is for new Amazon Prime trials only

Free 1 month trial of Amazon Prime

Unless I am mistaken, previously the free trial was only available to select users. Now it is open to all.
Support CAG just by signing up for the free trial!

Amazon Prime members get unlimited free Two-Day Shipping with no minimum order. Amazon just rolled out release-day delivery on select games (like Madden 09) which Amazon Prime members get for free. Not sure if there are any other games currently available for that service, but I imagine there will be others soon. Soul Calibur IV was also a release-day delivery game.

After the free 1 month trial, Amazon Prime costs $79 a year.
Any CAGs currently use the service? Is it worth keeping it after the trial ends?

Wait. I just signed up for the 1 month free trial for Amazon Prime yesterday. Is there anyway I can upgrade to the 3 month trial or just have to create a new account?

just creat a new account (different email and different credit card). Using the same name and address should be fine. Some have had trouble, but it worked for me. good luck. And how sweet is it, that we can pre-order Anything and still keep the prime shipping for that item?!?

^^ yes as stated before anything ordered within the time of prime trial will get prime even if you cancel prime in 3 months and the game or whatever has not been released.

I just finished my Prime trial, after getting an e-mail offer from Amazon with a $10 gift
code for trying...ordered a few things, and I have to say:

If you are a regular (or even semi-regular) Amazon.com shopper, this is worth looking into. Definitely worth it, imho.

God damnit amazon, they wont give me the trial due to having done it before. I might try to make a new account at school.

Everybody, don't forget to go into Your Account -> Manage Your Amazon Prime Membership -> and then change the option for Prime to NOT upgrade automatically.

If you don't, in 3 months when you forget, Amazon will charge you the full $79.99 for the upcoming year. I've heard it's been a real pain in the ass to get rid of that charge if you don't want it.

if you read maybe a page back there's a few of us already having had the trial before but successfully got this working including me. You can also link your original account to have the prime trial. Plus you don't need to go to school to do it. Good luck

what exactly isn't working? Is the three month prime showing up at check-out? Or is it saying you cannot do the 3 month trial..

It doesn't show up when I pick my shipping.

Mine showed up at the very end of the checkout, at the final confirmation screen just before you click "submit my order." Keep going through the checkout, it'll probably be there for you too.

what are you guys doing when you say you're "linking" the account to your old one. Are you just sending an invite to your original account's email address? or is there an actual link option?

Invite, I invited my main account that used Prime Trial before

I just took advantage of this and it worked. I'd already had a 1-month trial in the past, so I cleared cookies and created a new account, put the book in my cart, went through checkout, added a credit card I'd never used on Amazon before, selected cheap shipping, got to the last page, selected free 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime trial, activated it, then deleted book from my cart. Then once I could get to the prime page in 'my account', I turned off auto-renewal and sent an invite to my main account's email address. I accepted that invitation and now I'm good to go. Sorry for all the run-ons, but I wanted to be thorough.

Made a new account and it didn't work...something I entered must've tied me to my old account because it said I wasn't eligible for the trial on the new account. Made a 3rd account and entered a different card that I've never used before and it worked that time.

Prime is good if you like to order cheap stuff on impulse. No minimum purchase amount for free shipping.

damn I wish op said this wasn't good if you'd had prime before, I don't do this create a new account stuff for every little deal that comes along--too much to keep track of. Prime was worth it when I was ordering a lot of books trying to learn home improvement/furniture buying/real estate when I bought a house 3 years ago.

might've been the CC or clearing of cookies.. took me two tries to get it.

I saw some people complaining about using Prime with pre-orders. I got Prime intending to switch all my pre-orders to Prime, is that a bad idea?

Also thanks to user that posted this.

Doesn't work on one account because I already had a trial, but my Mom's account works, haha. I can sign her up in a few weeks for the Christmas season, and get myself some stuff faster.

Is it the cookies they care more about or a credit card? And if it's a credit card does it make a difference if the credit card was used for a purchase or just on file/billing address?

Well I already had a 1 month free trial a while back so I guess I can't get this.

Just so you guys know though, if you know some people you can trust you guys can actually share the account, with I think up to 4 (maybe 5) people. You can gift the account to another account. The account is supposed to be in the same house, but it doesn't really matter. They don't monitor that shit.

So you can essentially enjoy the luxury of amazon prime for 20 dollars a year.

I'll be honest, I haven't but I have heard about others doing it on other forums and stuff. So I am quite certain it works.

I dunno but I think the topic should get rid of Madden as the release date delivery and change to Star Wars The Forced Unleashed which amazon is now doing release date delivery for, so just a thought...and to tell you folks that title is being used

Just worked for me on a new account. I selected the 2 day shipping even though it didn't say I was eligible for the 3 month trial. I added my credit card and then right before you click place order it says that you get 3 free months of Prime.

EDIT: Actually now that I check it isn't crediting me with 3 months, so not sure what the deal is.
