free cable internet?

That's true. If he can't buy it, there's no way he can steal it.

You can split the signal. I have a cable modem, and have been using a router since the beginning. No additional charge, and while TWC doesn't promote it [they want to sell you their 'home networking' for 12.95/month], they don't say you can't do it.

You should be able to call your cable company and have them tell you if you can physically get a broadband connection.

And some cable companies can turn off the broadband 'flow' at the street/box level, so there's no chance of getting BB when you're not approved to do so. We didn't pay our bill one time, and they cut off the BB internet, but kept our TV going, because all they had to do was flip a switch at the office, rather than coming out to the house. I don't know if they de-activated the mac address, or the flow, though.

I could buy the modem anytime but I just want to make sure someone can confirm that they can get xbox live this way before I do. even if it is for a day or so. I just want it long enough to get the hurricane packs for ninja gaiden.

I am not telling you guys to buy a modem yourselves, I am just saying if you already have a modem to try it.

I am sure people have modems at their house without a cable internet connection but have digital cable. I am asking these people to help all of us out. We are all speculating that it works or it does not work but the only way to find out is for one of you few out there to try.

Or maybe no one wants to get arrested for trying this. Why don't you just ask your friend who has done it and borrow his? It really shouldn't work because the code does have to be entered into the mainframe or else assholes would be clogging up the line from the people who actually pay for it. And it doesn't really matter which cable they use. Regular phone outlets for example have much more bandwidth than needed for telephones, which is how DSL works, but can I just plug in my DSL modem and have it work? Nope.

this metord will not work with dsl it only would work with cable internet my area filters everything thorugh one line dsl has to be connected to a computer cable internet does not have to be.

this stinks of wishful thinking. if all you want is the hurricane pack, why dont you bring your xbox over to your friend's house? thats even more free than buying a modem and stealing broadband.

Not to bump this again, but never bump this again. Noone is going to try your fucking stupid thing. Just fuck off.

Interesting... my brother has had digital cable at his house since he moved in. When he first moved in I connected the cables to the TV just for future use when they got the cable connected but it worked right off the bat. At first we thought it was just work for a while (maybe the previous owners cycle wasn't over yet.) Well it has been a year already with free cable but I never thought about trying to get free internet for him too. I have a cable modem and I think I will head over there Tuesday and see what happens.

He has wanted to get roadrunner (like me) but doesn't want to pay for cable if he is already getting it for free. They don't have phone service (only cell phones) so I think DSL would cost a little more than usual.

davidflecha17:
Ask your friend if you can get a look at his cable bill. That will settle this once and for all. Comcast invoices digital cable and internet all on the same bill. If he doesn't have internet on the bill, but you can see a cablemodem working right there, well, there you go.

trust me he does not have cable internet because I asked him how much he pays on his cable bill and he said 70.00. That is how much it cost for standard cable because I pay this much too. He also told me that he cant afford to pay for both.

Yeah when I first got cable internet back in 98 I was able to get channels 1-13 for free (which included hbo) buy using a splitter and connecting it to my tv ( was still at home at the time) anyways when I got married and we moved to a new place they moved the connection but added a filter so mediacom does have a fliter as well. But no this methoed he speaks of will not work at all. And as far as broadband so expensive. I pay 21.95 for 1.5/750 ( 24.95 after taxes) even sbc dsl is like 26 or so. I know not everywhere has it but hell my in-laws live in backwoods arkansas and they have it there for 40 a month.

I would get sbc dsl in a second but they dont offer it in my area.plus cable internet is the best connection and fastest. 4 times as fast as dsl.

different cable companies work differently I am only talking to those people that have comcast digital cable.
