Sounds interesting, but I have never actually read a comic but since every comic book store around here is taking part in this I might see how this works. I would assume you get to pick 1 free newer comic.....?
I've only been to my local comic book store about twice, but Im probably going to drop by since Im going to be in the area tommorow.
Whats the "stock" like in many of your local stores? Mine seems to only be full of back issues, with only 1 wall reserved for new issues in the front, and the back half reserved for back issues. And the rest with all the collectables and stuff. This is the only one I've been to, so I dont really know how much newer stuff a comic store usually stocks compared to their back issues.

I don't have any local comic book shops anymore but when I did they would have a box of comics up on the counter. It was some new stuff but mainly older worthless stuff.
Most people that came in and just asked for the free comic and left got the older crap. The people buying other comics got the better free comic.

From what I understand, now the publisher supplies the free comic. Which is normally a new comic, or a comic that they're testing the water with.
I used to go to my local comic book store weekly till I moved. It was nice, everything was neat and organised, and the owner and employees were real nice, they also had a ton of events and tourneys going on all the time. I miss it.
Things From Another World is doing it and you can get 1 or 2 $free comics when ordering online before May 5. One of the $free issues is an issue of Umbrella Academy by some guy, Gerald Way of some band, My Chemical Romance.
Orders over $25 get $free shipping and orders over $50 also get a $free Batman Heroclicks.
I stopped by the local comic shop and wow. They gave out 12 comics to everyone and had 4 others you could pick from a selection of over a dozen. I'm hyped on Pirates vs Ninjas now.
I went to my local shop today, and made out like a bandit, thanks in part to annoying kids and their parents asking what was free. Ended up leaving with close to 20 free comics. I'll post them later today, but I remember getting Spiderman and Umbrella for sure. I did buy a comic book, because I'd feel ridiculous just going in there for the free comics and leaving.
Also got a Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer poster.
The local comics store had about 20 to give away, but I just took what I would read, so less than half that. I'm not much of a comics fan, but I just wanted to see what's out there.
All of the comics given for free have on them: "Free Comic Book Day," "From Your Friends at (publisher's name)," and a big, blank, white box where the store could put a stamp of their name, address, and phone number.
Thanx for the Op! I went into my local comic store (buymetoys.com) and found out it was owned by one of my bro's old high school buddies. He gave me the hook up on his new comic, "The Oz/Wonderland Chronicles", that he did the artwork for. It's pretty good, so if you go by the comic store again ask for a copy and support the indie publishers.
