Free DL of HL2: LC & HL2: DM for ATI Video Card owners through Steam.

Lost Coast has been free for a long time now

I got HL 2: DM for free too a long time ago, but I forget how.

I guess ATI has to do *something* to get people to buy those cards, though.

Lost Coast is only a tech demo, but I guess it's nice to get something for free. I believe this works if you switch to integrated ATI graphics if you have them.
I had a problem, now I don't. I f I uninstall these games, are they linked to my account so I can DL them again later?
Yes.

the upcoming ATI card that has DX10 support includes HL2 Orange Box, so this must be a promotion of some type to get ATI owners hooked if they havent played it yet. sneaky, hehe

Well, this is frustrating. Steam won't let me download; it just tells me that, "This offer has already been activated using a different Steam account." I only have one Steam account. I created it for the express purpose of this deal.

Aaarg. Doesn't help that Steam's FAQ just forwarded me to an explanation on how to reset my password. My password is not the problem. The fact that Steam thinks I have already downloaded the games is.

ATi was giving away HL2 with the X800s back in the day, this just seems like a continued partnership. Lost Coast has been free since it was released (not sure if it was HL2 or ATi dependant) and HL2 Deathmatch was always free if you had HL2.

Edit: Looks like they started charging $10 for HL2 Dm and only include it in some versions of HL2.

Doesn't seem like much of a deal. If you didn't care enough to buy Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode 1 (which I've seen for as low as $5), then you probably won't care much about Half-Life 2: Lost Coast or Half-Life 2: Deathmatch.

I'm having the same issue. Kind of annoying.

Same thing here....and I have never used steam or installed it before....bummer.
Weren't these already free?
That's what I thought, but Deathmatch normally costs $10 on its own, or it's included in certain Steam/HL2 packages. Lost Coast appears to be a free download for HL2 owners; I'm not so sure since Steam offered this to me a while back, and I don't own HL2.

no...its not FREE if u have to buy HL2 to get them

These games aren't really that good, HL2 and HL2 ep 1 were better. Not really worth it unless you already have a ATI card and none of these games.

I guess these were already included in the 'bundle' that I got for buying my ATI AIW 9600. When HL2 got delayed, everyone got HL1 and a bunch of other stuff with the code on the HL2 coupon to compensate for the delay.
It's the only reason I have Steam... call me crazy, old fashioned or whatever - I'd rather get my stuff on a CD and know that 10 years down the line when I'm feeling nostalgic for a game of Tie Fighter, I just need a DOS machine.

I wonder why on Earth it's doing that? I mean WHAT different Steam account? If you've never had Steam on your system...I don't get it. Do they have a contact email?

I went ahead and did it. Didn't actually download them, but just got them attached to my account. I hate ATi's drivers, but I do have one system with an ATi card, so I just clicked the link from it so they're permanently in my account :D

I actually don't have Half Life 2 yet. Not because I don't want it. I would have bought it at launch if not for Steam. I have to admit though, compared to the hideously unfair DRM on the consoles, Steam looks pretty solid :cold:

This download's kind of pointless for me, as eventually I'll end up with Lost Cost anyway (once I finally do get Half-Life 2), and I don't care about deathmatch stuff, but oh well.

I did notice that they FINALLY dropped the price on both Half LIfe 2 ($20) and Episode 1 ($10), so that's cool.

They've got Tomb Raider: Anniversary for just $30. I really, really want that... I'd prefer a retail copy though, especially if it's the same price.

I sent them an e-mail a couple days ago, but they have yet to reply. Oh well. Deathmatch looked pretty nifty.

just a heads up... lost cost is a very pretty tech demo but it's shorther than short. it can be beaten in 5-10 minutes. if you decide to just stand around looking at the pretty enviornments you can probably stretch it to 30 minutes.
