If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

You weren't kidding. Ok I found this on page 28. All credit goes to jacknicklson for the original faq (1-6).

ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/1...old-box-trick/
This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.
Lol, that is the classic arguement of someone who has nothing decent to say.

I could care less about glitching the system to get an extra discount. For those that had it happen by accident, I'm not upset. For those who purposely went out and worked the system to get games for free or close to it, they should have the pre-orders cancelled.

This site is called Cheapassgamer, yes, but since when did the site come to be abotu screwing over a company out of money by glitching it until it is free. Maybe it's just me, but the community here has gone from a great place to meet other great gamers looking for deal to a site that's growing more into a spot for people to discuss and talk about how to abuse deals, website glitches and flat out scam companies for the best deal possible.

I'm surprised Amazon didn't cancel the program outright. We as gamers are lucky they have decided to continue this after what just went down. But, it will happen again if someone finds a way, to the point where we lose the ECA discount altogether.

I think the only one that did it on accident for me was my preorder for lego rock band, not sure what happened there, but htat was the only one.

I do agree with you though. There were people actively trying to do this and getting sometimes up to 30 percent off by stacking 3 codes. I do not think that was right.

The differences would be like you going to buy 2 games at a store. You take them up and find out that one rang up free. You're like "Oh, well. Either I'm lucky, or they are having some kind of promotion in their system" then leaving.

And going to buy 2 games. Having this happen, then going back and buying 40 more games just to get a free game by actively trying to exploit this, and then on top of it trying to find out how you can somehow get 2 games free for every 1 you buy.

I honestly don't even like the talk and have to bite my tongue when people talk about ways to try to do the Toys R Us deal and get a free game out of it by returning 2 of the games. That is just low IMO.

This eca thing is probably the best thing to ever happen to amazon so I doubt they will get rid of it, they will just put more measures in place to make sure that doesn't happen again. The example would be. Before I got ECA I had bought 1 game from amazon in the last 2 years. Since I've gotten ECA I have at the moment 9 preorders, and I am getting brutal legend/Uncharted 2 in 2 days that I would have normally gotten locally since getting it online is usually a hassle

I guess my point was everyone who got a double or triple stack did not try to abuse it. As far as contacting amazon goes, you should all know the first rule of CAG, SD, or any other deal site is "Do not call". What if someone called and amazon decided to eliminate all ECA discounts on all outstanding orders? Who would you be mad at then?
I understand people's frustrations with others constantly reordering and preordering, but some of us did not do that.

I used to be devoutly Christian until I discovered this thread but now my faith has seriously been called into question. I mean... if there is an omnipotent, divine being how could he/she ever allow an absolute evil like double/triple stacking to exist in the world?

It just doesn't make sense.

Seems to me that most of the complaints about coupon stacking are due more to that person's inability to get a discount for themselves at the moment, rather than any legitimate ethical concern. I think just about every single complaint I've read was prefaced by "OMG I got [New Release 35721] in my Gold Box and I can't order it because there are no codes, thanks stackers!", which then naturally proceeds into self-righteous condemnation of any gamer who would dare take advantage of an exploit that auto-applies itself to your order, because it's "wrong".

I shudder to think what kind of mess this thread would have degenerated into if they had announced that the program was being ended, rather than going away for A COUPLE OF DAYS.

I stacked. I'm laid off work and because of the stack will be able to play some games this year.

Hate me if you like. But I CAN sleep at night!

Peace. Love. Unity. To all my fellow CAGS!!

who says it wont be ended..amazon will say they cant fix the problem of stacking so they will not issue more codes.. not saying it will happen but it could

I am just grateful for the free accounts that were given away.. because of that promo, it made codes run out faster and made different batches which were able to be stacked... thanks non payers : )

So you're pissed off that people jumped on a promotion that was obviously approved by the ECA themselves? What rules did we break? None. By the way, this site is called cheapassgamer.com. Why would I pay for a membership if I was given a legitimate promotional code in which I could sign up for free?

Calm down there killer

It didn't look at all to me like the poster you quoted was being in any way serious. Notice the :) at the end

I think they were just making fun of the people complaining that there are no codes by joking about a different perspective.

Ok, I have a J code laying around. It doesn't look like I'll be needing it, so.. instead of just posting it for the raptors to get, I'll do this:

Please PM me why you should get this code. I don't care if your _____ family member died. Give me a -valid- reason and/or why you want it.

ya sorry, meant to quote the post above yours. edit'd!

Ahhhh, so much complaining. I want codes too, luckily I preordered what games I really wanted as soon as the madness of free codes started. But there are a few games I still wanted to get. But there's too much bitching, even for me. And I made a forum account on the ECA website just to bitch about the giving away of free accounts.

fuck. Last day to order Uncharted with free $5 & map supposedly, it's in my goldbox, and I miss someone giving away a code by 25 minutes... then again that would be better than my usual luck. Maybe I'll just buy a different game, trying to get U2 with this deal is like the curse of the statue of El Dorado.

I understand that what people did was wrong, but to the people complaining, why didn't you just pre-order the stuff you wanted? If you just use 1 of the 10% codes when they were available you could have pre-ordered an almost unlimited amount of stuff with the discount applied. Not to mention you could cancel any pre-order anytime. People keep on posting about how they can't get codes to use on Uncharted 2, why didn't you just pre-order it a month ago? Even if you wanted it or not you could just cancel the order with a couple of clicks. As soon as codes went up I just pre-order everything I wanted (stuff even as far as next year) because I knew something was bound to happen with the codes. I jumped on the ECA stuff when it became free and all the people that paid are throwing fits because they don't have codes. It's called generating a couple of codes and copy+paste into a word processor. I generated 3 codes and I ended up using all of them.

Just because something became free and people abused it doesn't give you an excuse for not exercising good judgment. Amazon doesn't require you to pay a penny to pre-order a game, why not just pre-order stuff way ahead of time?

everyone should write a simple "thank you" email to amazon for partnering with ECA and allowing us the codes imho. at least thatd give them a good idea of how important it is to us & how many get a benefit from it. it may stop them from canceling it in the future, who knows? the least we could do is take 5 minutes to show our appreciation. i did.

I like how the blame goes around. Months ago, the eca/amazon sucked because codes ran out/expired. Then it was free member's fault they ran out, now it's stackers. They've run out before and until we do get the unique codes they'll run out again, if you've been a member for longer than like two weeks(or followed the thread at all) you should've grabbed atleast 1 or 2 in case of emergency codes or been trying to use them faster in the first place as they've been having problems all summer.

I'm not complaining about this issue anymore myself as it can lead to being banned from CAG now. I'll just give you a window into my situation - I did not know I would want U2 until playing the demo ~Oct 3-5 and seeing reviews and I was not able to get ECA membership until last week as I don't trust them with my CC if they can't even get emails or proper online security right so I had to find out how and where to get a debit card without negating the savings I'd get from ECA.

Stop purchasing any games for few days and Amazon will bring the ECA codes back. It is simple and we do not have to thank them for anything since they are not as good as they used to be. I am still shocked over the fact that they do not have any price protection policy which really sucks. Even for pre-orders, they do not honor it and you have to fight with them all the time. When is the new Amazon to be coming to the market to make Amazon regret their greed?

This codelessness is showing me I maybe have a game-buying problem. :)
Thanks to CAG, I got my gold box quick picks constantly putting out stuff I'm interested in; hopefully that will continue when codes resume.
I'm going to snag Afrika definitely, which just came out ($50 MSRP). The Pokemon Snap lover in me has been waiting a long time to play that -- despite IGN's horrible score.

Example?

They haven't killed/killed the original glitch right?

Normally I wouldn't hesitate to cancel my glitched promo order to get something else instead but someone told me it wouldn't apply the promos to the new order this time.

I wouldn't cancel. Some people said they canceled theirs and all the codes disappeared. If nothing has shipped in that order yet you should email/call Amazon and get them to manually add/remove items from your cart. (I think once something ships they won't allow you to add anymore. Haven't tried personally.)
Example?
Probably just a troll. Ignore him.

The deals we all get from Amazon, far surpass the bad.

Highly doubt you'll get more games added to your order and have all the stacking promos work. Canceling a few is an easy affair that you can do yourself though.
What are you talking about? I got my $9 back from the Halo 3 ODST price drop on launch.
Exactly, I got $18 back. :D

I can't suggest cancelling your order. I tried that last friday with some stacked codes and nothing had shipped and I only got one of the codes back in my account when I tried to order something else.

Gargh should I pull the trigger on Uncharted 2 with the pre-order? Or should I wait for the ECA?

Decisions.... decisions

Wait till later today!

CURRENT STATUS:

**Amazon.com has asked us to remove the current batch of ECA member discount codes due to abuse issues related to a software exploit such as "stacking". They are reevaluating and will update us shortly on next steps!**

The bad news is that it’s going to take a few days later to get the new batch of codes this time (maybe Friday/Monday), which is still faster than it used to be. The good news is that Amazon is working on the much-wished-for unique multi-use codes! Hooray! We'll update the benefit section and here on the forums once we have any new information. Don't worry the benefit will be back
smile.gif
Isn't it more money from Amazon though?
I almost never buy just one item from Amazon, so even if they are taking a slight monetary hit (I doubt they are at 10%), they are likely making it up from people purchasing other items.

i really don't understand the push for these multi-use codes. i don't understand why there are codes at all. amazon absolutely has the ability to automatically apply a discount without the use of codes...they have done it before. i'm not going to read a billion pages, but did anyone ever find out why they won't just use the same system they used before for the hd-dvd/blu-ray early adopter promotion? that worked out great and couldn't be stacked or shared.

i'm gonna be so beyond annoyed if the codes aren't available during black friday because people insist on abusing every promotion in the history of the world.
