They probably do spam you like crazy (I never tried them). It's all a pyramid scam.

No, they require you to fill out offers and to get friends to fill out offers. Almost always at least one of the offers costs money and almost all do if you don't cancel them quick enough. But if done right you might get a very cheap ipod or whatnot.
