If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

I signed up and got the email. When I press the link in my email to activate my account, firefox blocks it. Has anyone else had this type of problem? I haven't gotten far enough to input my CC info or the code to get it free.

I haven't had much of my attention towards ECA, but now that it's free I have a question.

It lists under their membership benefits that you get 20% off Tritton Technologies AXPRO series. Does that mean I get 20% the AXPRO headsets on any websites? Because Tritton Technologies does not sell their headsets directly from their website, only (online) retail stores.

AXPRO = $154 on newegg minus $30

$124 would be a great price on this headset. I've been trying to replace my broken Turtle Beach x1's.

Edit: Also, what's up with their contact page having addresses like "membership(at)theeca(dot)com"
I've seen other places do the same thing so don't let it bother ya. The thinking is that by spelling our e-mail addresses like that, there's less of a chance for programs that search the web collecting e-mail addresses (for spam purposes) to put that e-mail into their database. Hopefully that makes sense.

At least that's what I've been told...I could be way off.

That's correct.
I see this at the Amazon sections of the benefits:

Members please note: These codes expire on 9/30/09

Does that mean that after the 30th there will be no more codes?

But still, this is very cool and I'll make the most of all the services, not just getting games for a discount. At the most, if I find the group bunk or something I don't want to be a member of, I can always cancel and move on. Thanks again op. I'm tight with my games right now, maybe I'll order one game. Who am I kidding? I'll check on something now.
Nooooooooooooooo. New batch of codes will be generated. Same questions asked every page.

So i signed up for the newsletter but where do i go to actually put my cc info in so i can get the actual benifits free for a year?
Nooooooooooooooo. New batch of codes will be generated. Same questions asked every page.
 Thanks. That's my fault for overthinking it.

Anyways, I just pray ECA doesn't pull their Amazon codes. People on the Slickdeal forums are pretty much retards and are willing to abuse any, and all, free offers to the nth degree. In general, it's bad news that a good deal on CAG gets posted on Slickdeals. It can only mean trouble.
Nooooooooooooooo. New batch of codes will be generated. Same questions asked every page.
Its not guaranteed that Amazon will generate a new batch of codes. It's more of a wait and see at this point, especially after hundreds if not thousands of new free members signing up and reaping the benefits.

Same question here! I was never prompted for a credit card - and I can't get into the member area.

someone posted over on another board amazon has pulled the codes.... that is why they are now giving them membership away for free.. we will know in 3 weeks.... hopefully the codes hold out until the end of the month at least.. and i get some good stuff in my gold box to even break even on the 20 i paid for this 2 months back

If they did pull the codes, that's bullshit. For one, the people who paid didn't know the codes were being pulled and for 2, I wouldn't have signed up for it for free if I had known that crap. It really better not be true, I don't believe it right now.

That would suck, but it can be true. I don't think the guys are ECA are idiots, and neither is Amazon. Most people paid for membership at ECA because of the Amazon codes, and without those codes then ECA is going to have a harder time generating cashflow. By offering free membership 3 weeks before the perk is pulled is a nice way to take in more accounts with recurring revenue (even though many people will cancel the recurring fee, there are also people out there who may forget to and get slapped with a renewal fee in a year). Now that the Amazon codes might be gone, ECA is thinking about funding for next year.

falls down laughing .... your mad cause you signed up for something for free and now you dont get a 10% discount.....

Yes the people who paid the 15 to 20 have the right to complain....

the people who got it for free dont have jack to ##$#$# about...... YOU GOT IT FOR FREE why should they give you 10% each time you buy a game LOL

Are the deals still working for Amazon?

Also, is GameFly's 30 day free trial worth it or will I have to pay for following months? I'd just sign up for the ECA membership just for the 30 day trial. :p

if you cancel within the 30 days you will not be charge for gamefly. BUT If you ever And i do mean

EVER

had another free trial of gamefly this code will not work.... It may allow you to open an account but they will close it in a day or two and demand their games back within 10 days...

Game Informer has a circulation of about three million, doesn't it? Not that I want Amazon to crash the ECA discount, but I would have to imagine that they were expecting at least several hundred thousand people to sign up for this because of the Game Informer issue. So if another two or three thousand signed up because of a leak on the internet on top of the expected several hundred thousand, I don't think the codes would be pulled because of a spike in new memberships. If anything, Game Informer may get even better deals in the future, as this would be viewed as a resounding success.

They should just stop the promotion at a certain amount of sign-ups instead of pulling the codes.

I will probably only use the codes twice more. I just used it to pre-order Persona (PSP). I'm just glad I got to take a bit more off the price. Compared to Gamestop, I pretty much save ~$10 (amazon discount + eca discount + tax). They didn't charge tax (CA) last time I pre-ordered something. I feel like a made out like a bandit without having to do anything.

Do they charge you for shipping games too on top of monthly fees?
Do they charge you for shipping games too on top of monthly fees?
No. Here's the info from past experience since I did the same thing.

The subscription lasts for 30 days.
Depending on the trial you may get 1 or 2 games out at a time.
They don't charge for shipping the game to you. They only charge if you buy something from them. Once you start a paid subscription then they waive the shipping fee if you decide to keep the game (they will send game only - when you opt to keep the game that was sent to you they will send the game box/manual in another shipment).

I'm not planning on buying anything from GameFly. The games are probably beat up because so many people probably haved played them. If not, the cost's for the games are probably identical to retailers.

I just want to do the 30 day free trial and end it there. The 1 yr ECA looks pretty decent, but idk what else to use for except for the Gamefly promo.

Amazon.com – get 10% off your games purchases at Amazon.com. Simply download coupon codes from the Benefits section once logged-in to your account. Then apply the code at checkout at Amazon.com. If you buy three or more games a year, this benefit alone makes being a member worth it. (The discount codes are presently unique one-time use coupons. Members should download one coupon per game, one game per cart. Multi-time use individually-assigned codes are coming soon.)

Is this the Amazon thing people are talking about or what?

Yeah, I'm probably not going to do this sign up. I'd rather not put in credit card info. for something I'm not "all the way" interested in. I borrow games from my local library anyways (have Uncharted and GI JOE checked out right now; Dirt 2, Batman AA, LBP, Call Of Juarez, Madden 10, Beatles rock band, etc are all on hold for me; of course they are free and borrow for approx a week).

I don't have total use of this, even if I want to use the Gamefly 30 day trial.

Thanks for posting the offer anyways!

Depends on the game you check out. Most of them are playable and about half of those and in near perfect condition. Over the last 6 months I've borrowed 33 games and only 2 of those were unplayable.

That's still pretty high don't you think? All games should be playable. You're having games checked out (while you're paying for that monthly fee) and it takes like a week to get a new one sent to you.

Doesn't work for me! Anyhow, if you're done with a game, you just put in US mailbox?

No, you can tell them online (form) that the game is unplayable and they will ship the next one while you return the current one.

When finished you can stick in the mailbox just like netflix.

I don't think that's too bad considering Blockbuster is worse. I figure that I'm getting a deal since I'm averaging 5+ games a month. At blockbuster than would be $40+ compared to the $17 I pay monthly. As long as I get 2 games a month I'm still doin better than I would be with blockbuster which would come out to the same amount with 2 games rented over 10 days.

Ok.

Do you guys know if you can end the subscription months prior to expiration (1 yr)?

You can check out new release games from Libaries?!? When did this happen? Is it common?

I think it's for libraries that are more funded by the state.

I think you can end it anytime you want. I saw the "cancel" link in my profile somewhere.

I would do this, but I'm not sure if the website is legit. I had an email verification for the website and I had a security prompt show up with it saying "not recommended" to open verification for email.

ECA has been up for a while now...I don't think it's illegitimate at this point.
