Here's the deal in human english:
If you are going to sign up for xbox live, get one of the people who already has Live (like me) to forward a special e-mail to you. You can than enter in basic Live info and get a free game!

Don't know if this is a repost, don't recall seeing it and did a quick search.....

Got an offer in my email that if a friend registers a 12 month xbox live subscription both they and I are entitled to a free game! Rallisport Challenge 2, Top Spin or Links 2004. Don't know if multiple friends will net you multiple games, on the form I filled out there are 5 entries for email addresses of your friends.

On a side note, if anyone recently registered and would like to use me as a referral to get the free games PM me:)

I think the original offer email can only be used by the adressee. Also, when I clicked back on the offer link after submitting 2 of the 5 names for friends it only showed up with 3 left. Tried on another PC, same thing. I'd really be down for free Rallisport 2 and Top Spin.

Im wondering if I can refer myself... And get me 2 games plus an account I could sell on ebay or something.. Cuase I want both Rallisport 2 and Top Spin.
 
Two questions that have popped up so far....

Will this work if you are switching from a Trial to a 12 month?

Will this work retroactively at all, if i signed up x weeks ago?

As of right now xbox chat and phone support both couldn't tell me for sure, so I don't know. I have a ticket open, so when someone calls me back I will post the answer.

Edit: The more I look at how the offer details are worded. It might really require that the gamer tag is new. Which would mean transfers from a Trial account wouldn't qualify...that would suck....it would have to be a total xbox live virgin! :wink:

actually, by the looks of it, you just need to be referenced through thier link, as i did not get a specific reference code.

Are you signed up at xbox.com with the MSN passport and My Live?

The promotion code will be sent to the person being referred via email from Microsoft.

But it sounds like when you invite someone to sign up, they get a special promotional code to put in so the deal will work. Since I didn't get the original email, I won't be able to invite anyone and they won't be able to get the promotional code. Unless the promotional code is the same for everyone, then I can do it without the email.

I don't think that will work. I tried editing my email in the URL and it said ERROR. You can come to this page only by clicking on the link in the email. Thank you.

If you want the offer I'd call microsoft support and complain, but since the support seems to not know what's up yet you might have to wait a few days. It doesn't expire till the end of July though. You might still get the email later today.

Ya, someone just fowarded me the email and when I try to put my email in the url, it gives me the same error you said. Maybe I'll get one later in the day. Has anyone referred someone yet and asked them what their promotion code is? It could be a universal code (hopefully) or a different code for every person. I really want Rallisport 2.

So if I buy a 12 month subscription for $50, I get 2 games. Even if I already have Xbox Live?
 
Me too. I don't think microsoft would be that stupid but you never know. I am just hoping that trail conversions are counted, because almost everyone gets the extra 2 months free. It also sucks that you are only allowed 5 names, so if people burn you and change their mind about using you as a referral you can't replace them with someone else.

I'll pay $2 for a confirmed referral

I think you'd need two different accounts and 2 gamer tags, I think they check that info even though it doesn't say you need to provide the referrer's gamer tag.

Let's try to keep this thread about the referral deal, not about the cheap Xbox starter kit from the Microsoft Retail website. There's a seperate thread for that. Don't want to confuse people....

You mean if you refer someone, they will get the same original email, where they can also refer someone else?

So ur saying that its best to be sure that they will accept the referral.. Only 5 people can recieve it, and if only one accepts u get fucked outta the deal. Right?
 
Correct. You wouldn't be out of the deal really, you'd just only get 1 free game. The max is 5. I don't know if they have extra titles or if they'd give you 2 or more of the same thing. I'm going to wait on sending my referrals to anyone who is an trail to 12 month transfer also for the moment in case those people are inelligible. Because once you've sent the referral you lose a space and you can't get it back. Unless, you called and complained that they weren't clear about the requirements, maybe they'd reset it for you. That'd be a long shot though.

So it only works on 2 month trials converted to 12 months? Or will it work on a new 12 month subscription?
 
I am sure it would work on a new 12 month. I don't know if it will work on trials switching to 12 month. I am waiting for Microsoft to call me back and let me know. But it says NEW so I think they're gonna be scumbags and make it only for people getting onto Xbox live for the very first time.

I really wouldn't give anyone your money if I were you....certainly not until your games get shipped, which might be quite a long time from now. Lots of things could go wrong, the person could be excluded, MS could say FU. You never know....

Are you wanting to be the referrer or referee? We're still waiting for info on whether it is retroactive as a referee. If you want to be the referrer sign up on xbox.com with My Live (requires MSN Passport) and maybe they will send you the email. You can call support and request it if it doesn't come in a few days, possibly they will send it to you.

Did you sign up new as a 12 month or were you on trial before that?

So does anyone think I have a chance of being referred by 2 different people, thus getting 2 different games?? I already got Rallisport with jshorr, but would really like to get Top Spin too.
 
I just got XBL on saturday and haven't activated it. I was going to wait a little while since I hardly have any Live games. The email said it expires today.... if that is NOT the case, I'd be glad to have someone refer me.

I doubt it. Your account was activated and logged as referred by 1 person. I doubt they will just let you do this over and over again.

If you want in on the deal, its good through July 29th. If you want to you can PM me when you feel like starting up live, as i have an amazing amount of patience :)
 
You may have seen 7/29 and thought it was 6/29....there's a whole month left.

If you are starting a completely new account and gamer tag I'd also be happy to refer you but I have referred 3 people so far I know are going to do it...and I don't need to be greedy...

However, I do have 2 referral slots left so once the wealth is spread around a bit I would be glad to refer anyone else who is starting a brand new account.
