Don't know if this was posted before, but starting today the Gigawatt Blades DLC will be free on the PSN for download.

Don't know if this will be permanently free, but it hasn't been available since it's release in May as GameStop pre-order.

Sweet! I just bought this the other day in the BB "free psn card" deal, it's good so far.

I'm cool with companies giving away exclusive DLC with pre-orders, I just wish they all weren't at gamestop! I despise that company, and only buy there if I'm completely out of other options. Amazon, Target, and Best Buy all do pre-orders, why can't I get free DLC when I buy there? It's ridiculous. Thenn again, as it's been said, if they gave the dlc away for free to everybody, it wouldn't be an issue.

Whatever, I'm gonna go get my blades. Oh yeah, do these work for the "Hero" side of the karma wheel as well? I saw a video the other day mentioning they were coming out, and in the video clip they showed the blades being used by "Infamous" Cole. Hmm... guess I'll go find out.

EDIT: The video shows you as being able to use them if you're good or bad, however, I can't activate them. You're supposed to press right on the d-pad, but I'm getting nothing. I'm at the "Champion" rank.
Well didn't it sell really well, and is basically a Greatest Hits except it hasn't been out long enough? So they had a price drop, they have some free DLC, it's a thank you to the fans.
It's not Modern Warfare sales but it sold more than a million copies dude, more than enough to generate profit and warrant a sequel.

The game has to be out for 10 months and has sold atleast 500,000 copies to qualify for that ugly and value reducing "Greatest Hits" label.

Thanks OP!

To the people having problems on this.

- Install the game.
- Download the Gigawatt blades on PSN and install it
- Restart the game. The Gigawatt blades should be the right-most in the Powers menu.
- Press right on the D-pad to activate it.
One of these days we should really get an official ruling on this. Personally, I'd much rather free DLC stuff stay out of the deals forum, because as is it can be pretty hard to find a thread. Creating a new one for each piece of free DLC would only make it harder.

Perhaps the optimal solution would be to create a sticky "Free stuff on the PSN" thread in the free stuff forums, that anyone interested in said free stuff can subscribe to.
We have a sticky on this. It gets updated every single time that the PS store updates.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180647

I agree that we really do not need multiple threads on every piece of free content that comes out for the PSN. It's getting to where it's multiple threads per week, all of which are covered in the weekly PSN thread. Friski updates that thread on a constant basis.

grabbed the DLC, but still don't own the game. still can't decide if I want to get this or prototype. game looks sick, but I prefer melee combat over aim and shoot. the blades might offer me a better reason to try melee, still not sure though. :S don't really care to own both, still have like 4 games in factory wrap that I have yet to get to lol. but regardless, happy they launched the blades as a free DLC, thanks again OP.
you paid for the game at gamestop because you had credit to spend there or specifically for the dlc. you paid for it. 6 months later theyve given the extra content away to try and spur sales. you crybabies are pissed because now youre not the lone special group to have the content. youre all pissed because content which would be what? $2-3? is being given away 6 months down the road.

come on, seriously.

do you guys get your feelings hurt when they lower the prices of dlc youve purchased like in the recent fall sale? or when ff13 was announced for the 360 as well? be happy with what youve got and stop worrying about everybody else.
Once again, another incorrect argument.

It's not that I paid for this (which I didn't) and now people are getting it for free (which I am). It's that Gamestop said "Pre-order Exclusive" and now people are getting it (and it looks like shit)...Obviously we know now that pre-order "exclusives" at Gamestop means you're only an early adopter and it will not be "exclusive" later on.

It's the principal, not the fact that people getting something that others paid for. And yes, it by all means is great for their sales, it just doesn't promote loyalty for pre-orderers (not that I ever was one). But yeah, my friend who does piss and moan after pre-ordering at Gamestop will be devastated when he hears this. For one, I think he's crazy for pre-ordering games...But on the other hand Gamestop's a BS corporation for holding that carrot over his head for a price, then giving carrots away later.

Whatever, it's a never-ending cycle of retardedness and in my book both the customer and company are to blame on this one. But it still doesn't justify Gamestop's decision to alienate loyal customers.

Value-reducing...Or sale-increasing?

Sorry, GH cases look crappy, but for the price anyone sane wouldn't care.

I rushed to the PSN store website to add them to my download queue, only to relize that Sony is still in the dark ages and only lets you make purchases from the PS3 or PSP.

I like Prototype's action more (faster paced, and it's really fun to run around with all those powers and abilities, like hitting infected water towers from far away with the chain whip while jumping through the air, running up buildings carrying cars and throwing them, etc), but Infamous is better planned and put together overall.

Okay, to use the blades you actually have to go to your powers menu, choose them (the right-most one) and purchase the first upgrade for 600 xp.

My game just completely froze my ps3 a few minutes ago, then just now I was fighting some dudes and lost my ability to grind rails and juice up from power poles. I was grinding along a rail and then poof... he started walking across it. I jumped on several more rails, but he just walked, no grinding. Then I died and everything went back to normal... :whistle2:k

EDIT: Oh okay, I was in the dark area where power had not been restored, so I couldn't grind the electric rails and the light poles were dead. Nevermind, then. I am retarded.

I think this should be the norm when it comes to pre-order items. If you pre-order something and pay retail price for the item, you get first serve on the item. A period of time down the line, offer it to everyone else. If the item(s) come from a CE, LE, or SE and you have to pay extra for the item(s) then offer the items at a later date for a nominal fee. I don't see why anyone would have to act selfish about the issue.

I downloaded it last night and was very happy to see it..I preordered the game and got the card and lost it..no lie.. the day I found it finally, it had expired by 12 hours....months later.

lol @ all the cry-babies on this thread. I would hate to see all the pouting going on if this were an online game and these babies lost their special weapon advantage.

This approach makes the most sense and I wish more publishers would follow suit. I really like that Sony actually allows some things to be free/on sale unlike Microsoft. One of my biggest complaints about Live. And I've newly tried gamesharing = mega win!

Definitely. MS is a little more anal about this stuff. Their "sales" are often a joke, too. They definitely have some good prices on Arcade games sometimes, but then they turn around and give you like 30% off some ancient DLC for a game no one plays.
I am pissed as well, stuff like this just makes me want to slit wrists so bad. It's so unfair what they're doing, giving out DLC for free to people who didn't pay.

fucking cry me a river. haters.
why dont we cry every time something goes on sale because its just not fair to those that paid full price.

if you paid for something you must've felt it was worth it at that price.
Lol, I thought "slit wrists so bad" was enough of a giveaway but apparently not.
I feel like it would be stupid to not get it, but on the other hand, I don't want something that makes you more powerful than necessary. Oh well, it probably doesn't do that much.
I'm a little worried about this too.. just got the game, I hope I can choose not to wear them for a bit or something? They seem to suggest 1 hit kills.

I agree completely, and major props to Sony for letting people have this on their marketplace (I wouldn't mind if they offered it for a price, just let people have the option to have it). I hate the preordering trends, it seems like you can't buy a complete game anymore. I'm still pissed at MS with Forza 2, putting exxclusive cars on a LCE that wasn't offered to US customers, never allowing those cars to be sold on the marketplace, then putting them on the platinum edition for $30 but never letting the people that bought it originally access to them except by buying the platinum ed. Of course that's collector's edition, but IMO all preorder bonuses should be available at a later date, even if they charge for it. That way nobody loses and the publisher could still make additional revenue.

I agree with cycophuk too. I bought the game when it came out, but it was a little cheaper than retail (which is why I don't pre-order anything -- it can always be found for at least a 5 dollar discount if not 15) and kind of wanted those things. They even said back then though that it would eventually make it's way to PSN. Already platinumed the game but will happily play a bit more now.
