Just a reminder: The free initial month of Xbox Live Gold will automatically renew to a paid monthly subscription at $9.99 per month until cancelled.

You must provide a valid credit card in order to obtain the first month.

Yeah I was just looking at that, total turn off. I absolutely hate renewal pay. Thanks anyway OP.

Can I set-up a new gamertag with this for a month? I wanted to play some multi-player MW3 and my son alreay has my gamertag level 30+. I would like to start a guy from scratch for the month.

yes, but if you start a new gamertag i'm pretty sure you would already get a free month so you might get 2 months free.

Setup the gamer tag on your Xbox 360. They use to give you 1 free month when you signed up. Not sure if they still do, and didn't require auto renew

They still do, however, I believe he wanted to stack the already free month with this free month. This deal is essentially the 1 month XBL for $1 deal for silver members, except Bing has brought that $1 charge down to null. I heard that the auto renewal used to be a real pain to get rid of, so ive always bought prepaid cards.
You should've mentioned this is for non-live members. People who already have Xbox live, this won't work for them.
Has this been confirmed??

Yes, I tried this and once I got the email it had in bold letters "this only works for silver members and if you are already a gold member, remember to share this with your friends!"

I made 2 other accounts within 1 yr, and 6 months, and neither came with a free month of live. I got a black controller prop, but no live.

No, the email says it's for "non-Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers only", so if you've already signed up for Xbox Live, then this will still work for you as long as you don't have a Gold subscription.

I believe each console is limited to a 1-month Gold trial for the first THREE accounts created thru the console.

I have a friend who just did the $1 dashboard deal and I told him about the auto-renewal terms in the fine print.

He was totally aware of it and says that he easily set it to OFF thru the website. He's in the U.S. I think there are other regions that have to phone MS customer service though.

I think by live members he was referring to people who are currently subscribed as gold members.

yeah turning off auto-renew is a lot more easy to do now.

but i heard if you want to remove your cc, then you gold status will go away
Cool they finally added the ability to turn off auto-renew. Tried to remove my CC no go.
Yeah, unfortunately, you still need to call them to remove ALL cards from the account. If you have multiple cards attached, you can remove all except one.

Is why you only leave them the cc that is no longer active that way if by some unfortunate luck your acct gets hack you do not have to worry about buying M$ points on your acct

I bought a month of gold for $1 a day ago, and tried this offer:

"This promotional offer is not available Thank you for your interest in the promotion. Based on your current Xbox LIVE membership, the subscription offer that you are trying to access is not applicable at this time. Please click the “OK” button to see available subscription offers."

Oh well.
