Free OnLive system with pre-order of Assassin's Creed Revelations

You can sign up for onlive for free on their website and download a couple demos then play it on your computer to see how well they run. With cloud gaming you don't need a top of the line computer to play their games because you run off their systems. So I would recommend playing a demo of something that is somewhat demanding on your PC if you are interested in getting the console.
 
Cloud gaming is a cool idea, but its clear from this promotion that its failing. They are obviously desperate to get the system into more homes, so that they can sell more games. This issue with this type of thing is that WHEN (not if, WHEN) Onlive goes under you lose all the games you've purchased. I don't get home this is any better than owning a PC where you can actually download the games. Besides, how large can the community on Onlive be? Online gaming must be a nightmare.

Still, thanks for posting TC. Its a really good deal for anyone who was considering the system already.

also, even though the games are around the same price as their pc counterparts, you are only leasing the title for 2 years, per the onlive ToS. so if they do last, you have to repurchase games you might want to play again (i see alot of people still playing MW2. if you bought that on release, that wouldn't be possible w/o re-buying the game). i like my physical media.

thanks for the deal, op. might be a great deal for some (my connection speed is probably too slow - 1.6 megs)!
 
I've heard their systems cost chump change to make, so they aren't losing as much as you might think with deals like this. Also, the games are available for a minimum of 2-3 years (can't remember) or until they decide they aren't popular anymore...where did you get the idea you have to re-buy them??

I dont think them giving away the system with this game is a sign they are desperate. They have been giving away systems with pre orders on a lot of games since Homefront. For a long time they were having really great deals on games and great promo's but not so much lately, hopefully this is a sign of more to come.
 
I was hesitant but have been using their service on my pc as of late. It runs pretty well for the most part and I really do think it's a great idea and a great membership/option to have. I would never consider it to be my main platform of choice but it is a great and inexpensive option for some of us.

Wrong here is what onlive says

Full: Provides unlimited access to the selected game throughout its supported lifetime on the OnLive service. We expect to keep all games supported for as long as people continue to play them, but at a minimum, all current games will be supported for three years after their release on the OnLive Game Service.

I like my system. Its not my primary gaming platform, but it does get the job done quite well.
 
If you guys ever saw the micro console, you'd understand. The thing costs peanuts to make, seriously. The only reason they charge as much as they do on the micro console normally is so they can do promos like this.

THeir servers are fine, its more to do with distance from their servers and the amount of routing between you and their hubs. Living in LA I have had really, REALLY, good results with them.
