free phantom hourglass player guide at toys r us

Somewhat tempting, but with the IGN review saying the game is so easy, guide seems unnecessary.

Will probably just hold off and buy in November when I have to do a lot of traveling for work as the budget is tight at the moment.
it's by prima so i expect it to be trash
i rather get one from nintendo power, but i dont know if it's coming or not
Yeah, Prima and Brady guides aren't very good these days... they usually lack detailed maps and in many cases, are full of mistakes on how to actually accomplish something.

Anyways, I don't know where I'll pick this up from but the CC bonus seems a bit nicer to me.

Hrmm that sucks for me sorta cause I'm getting it through Familyvideo for $25.96. So by the time I pay tax on $34.99 I'm practically buying the guide (an extra $12 or so) I'll just stick with FV's and if I get stuck use Gamefaqs and if I that doesn't work out buy the guide later.

Being that Wind Waker was a game that was near unbeatable without a guide due to searching the sea and this is a sequel and has more of the same I'd think I will need assistance.

Wind Waker was one of the easiest games I ever played, and I consider myself a pretty sucky gamer. Had zero problems with battles or finding stuff.

Is this supposed to be the same difficulty level as the Wind Waker?

There aren't going to be any more Nintendo guides, so Prima is the only way to go. However, there is a limited edition PH guide that's just like the TP LE guide coming out too.

I've read it is pretty easy, so that would probably be a safe assumption.

From the IGN review, sounds like it is even easier than Wind Waker and more dumbed down with shorter dungeons etc.

Well I've beaten hundreds of games including games that people find extremely difficult like Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, Maximo 1 and 2, Castlevania Dracula X on SNES and others and I thought it was one of the most difficult games I've beaten. Not as far as combat of course but just finding stuff. I did get through it but it was not easy and most people I know who have beaten Ocarina of Time have not beaten Wind Waker. So I'm not sure maybe you're just very good at finding stuff but sailing the sea was a biyatch to find stuff for me.

That really sucks. Where'd you here that they're not making anymore?

I think this is my best bet for instore pick up gift.

The shit underwater glowed, just had to be patient to look for it. The the triforce pieces were marked on the map if I recall correctly.

It was tedious and kind of boring, but not difficult.

That's my biggest problem in life, patience. :)

But it's just my opinion I've beaten almost every Zelda there is and besides Majora's Mask I thought Wind Waker was the toughest guess I'm just different.

Thanks for the pic OP. Read about this in the Phantom Hourglass thread but it's good to see the pic. Looks like Toys 'r Us will be getting my money, even though I probably won't use the guide

Can anyone point me to a reasonable DS on TV (w/ sound) solution or any news of one coming in the future? I have zero interest in this game if I can't play it on a TV.

Not to mention it would be damn tough to play a touch control only game with the DS hooked up to a TV......you'd have to be looking at the touch screen all the time anyway.

Well I do want to know how they got some of the Ds screens to display at the 05 E3. Was it just a video recorder over the screen? I thought it had wires running out of it?

I'm sure they have someway of hooking it up to a TV for conferences etc.

There is just nothing commercially available that you can buy to do so, and I've heard no talk of putting anything out.

Again, it would really only work for games that didn't use the touch screen, as you couldn't play a touch control game while looking at the TV. Best that could be is for others to watch the game, ala at the conferences.

Nintendo has a special external tool which allows the DS to output to screens and/or a computer. Places like IGN, EGM, etc. get them too so that they can capture screen shots and video.
From the IGN review, sounds like it is even easier than Wind Waker and more dumbed down with shorter dungeons etc.
fuck. I'll really have to think about getting this one. I thought one of the major flaws of wind waker was that is was too easy and too short. Nintendo should put hard modes in their games so more experienced players can enjoy it too, not dumb it down for the masses.
toys r us in times sq, ny has ds stations where they are hooked up to bigger lcd screens.
This is also the case at the Nintendo World store in Rockefeller Plaza.

It would be for my wife to watch the game. I've played all of the Metroid (the real ones) and Zelda games on the TV using either the Super Gameboy or Gameboy Player.

There are two fixes floating around in articles on the web, one is camera based that would be picture only and the other requires a hardwired mod. The hardwired mod may fit my needs, but I can't find any information on where to get it from or how much it costs.

I wonder if it would be possible to cancel my 5$ pre-order at gamestop for an extra 5 towards this..

But, they would most likely give me store credit right?

I don't think I've heard anything specific, but the whole NP going to Future Publishing thing seems point to everything, including strategy guides, going out of house. Plus, you'll only find two Prima guides (one regular, one LE) listed on Amazon for Super Mario Galaxy. If Nintendo was still doing strategy guides, there'd be no way they'd pass on the biggest release of the year.

Damn, I've been an NP subsriber since 99' and I had no idea this was happening...

I saw the LE guide last night at GS. I don't even own a DS - and no plans on getting one - but that guide is tempting just to have it match my TP LE guide. Not $30 tempting tho. ;)

Damn, I thought this was a Nintendo guide. Anyone think the guide will be good since it's Prima? I mean, they have a pretty spotty track record.... In many of their guides, such as the Animal Crossing one, most of the information is just flat-out wrong.

Seriously? Is this a result of the recent farming out of Nintendo Power? That sucks. I hate Prima/Bradygames. I bought the NP guides as much for the art and layout as I did for the actual help they provided.

I have to disagree with your statement of linking Prima and BradyGames as crappy publishers. While it may be true for Prima, there're many Bradygames guides that are far superior to the crap that Nintendo Power generates. I'm not saying that's true for every game, but there're many guides out there generated by Nintendo Power that were pure crap.

Well, considering I helped author the Brady guide for the GBC version of Link's Awakening, I'd say I'm pretty familiar with them. ;)

And yes, NP guides are not perfect (the fact that the NP Diamond/Pearl Pokedex neglects to include info on how to obtain each poke is chief among my complaints), but on average, they're much better than those produced by Brady or Prima.

Well, seeing as Link's Awakening came out nearly 10 years ago, I would venture to say things have changed since then so your "professional opinion" doesn't really have as much wieght as it did 10 years ago. Brady and Prima, while not as good as say Double Jump books, is much better then the crap they used to put out.

Why don't they have 3 or 4 different difficulty settings for these kids games.
Touch controls sound interesting but if this is as easy as windwaker I don't think anyone will be needing a guide for this one. I'll save my money for dragonquest.

The Nintendo Power Pokemon guides are the best on the market.

Ahhh...Ten years ago. I still remember knockin' boots with your mom while you were crapping your Pampers. Good times. ;)

Picked up the Prima guide with the game at TRU today. Hopefully you're right and they've improved since I last used one of their guides (and it was more recently than Link's Awakening).
