Controller review:

Ups:
-Same shape and button layout as a Dual Shock
-Attractive design
-Feels solid and not flimsy like many third party controllers
-Sticks, d-pad, and buttons feel very much like on a Dual Shock, only a little stiffer and buttons are raised a little higher

Downs:
-Cord is about 30 inches shorter than on a Dual Shock
-You have to press fairly hard to get a reaction, so games where pressure sensitivity is important are going to suffer if you use this controller

I would recommend this controller if you play a lot of RPGs or action/adventure games that don’t rely on pressure sensitive button presses as a major aspect of the gameplay.

If you want to play sports titles or racing games or any other title where pressure sensitive buttons are important then I would not recommend you use this controller.

This controller is comfortable and performs well in most games, but if you need precise throttle and brake control in Gran Turismo 3 or you want to perform your best in sports titles (I tried it with Madden ’04 and Winning Eleven 7 and am not too pleased with the results), the Analog Controller 2 is simply not capable of giving you the accurate control you need. The short cord on the unit is a major annoyance and for most people it isn’t going to be worth it to change their gaming setup so they can actually use it comfortably just to save a few bucks on a third party controller.

It isn’t horrible and it certainly isn’t great, but for the low low price you can purchase the unit at VideoGameDeals for it is worth checking out.

On a scale of 1-10 where 10 is a Dual Shock 2 and 1 is a brick, I give the Analog Controller 2 a 6. The design is great, but the performance is only average.

Yours was free but for the $9 I have them currently at the site dont you think that is a good deal? Most crappy 3rd party controllers are $15 and they stink.

Personally I like 1st party controllers but if my friends bought the extra controllers then fine...but if its got to be my money then why not go cheap. I always thought having home advantage meant you get the good controller anyways.

I bought 2 of these controllers, and 2 GBA to Gamecube link cables a couple of weeks ago from the site. The link cables, both of them, did not work at all right out of the box, so I sent them back, for a fast refund. The controllers work fine for RPG's but suck for sports games where percise button pressing is required. Also the cord is way to short, 2 feet shorter than 1st party at least, which also sucks for muiti-player sports games because you end up to huddled together. I would not give a thumbs up to these controllers I would rate the a 5 out of 10.

Just got mine. Here's what I think:

Pros:
Feels comfortable
Nearly identical in design to orginal PS2 Controller
Nice Analog control
Everything controls fine-no stickiness

Cons:
A little "wobbly"
Pressure sensitivity an issue

All in all, I think I like this controller. It's most certainly better than a lot of the crappy 3rd party GCN controllers I bought. Thanks, defender.

You know, someone once posted the idea that only regulars at CAG should be privy to cool deals. At first, I thought it was a bad idea. Now I'm not so sure...
Is that all the reviews from the 5 I sent out?
No - I got one, and I apologize for the delinquency of my review; it's almost-done and sitting on my computer at home waiting to be completed and posted. I will make sure it goes up tonight. I suck.
Short version though: it's a good deal.

These people are terrible. lol. Send me anything you want and i'll post a 350+ word review on it or you can give me bad feedback, yell at me, whatever. I am honestly a great reviewer, and could kil these people so fast.

So here's my review - apologies again to Defender for the delinquency, because what you did in sending them out was very cool.

My take echoes what's been said before for the most part.

Here's the stuff I didn't like: the cord is a strange length. It's short, as has been mentioned before. I pretty much game on the floor in front of the TV so it's not a big issue for me, but you wouldn't be able to kick back on the couch with this I don't think. The buttons are stiff - also mentioned before. I tried this with Winning Eleven 6 and wasn't too happy with it - I threw in Gran Turismo 3 just for kicks and had a hard time there as well...it felt like it was pedal to the floor or no pedal at all, no in-between. So - analog button functions, not the most precise. Also, the controller feels very light in the hand - not in a cheap way necessarily, but it doesn't feel like it's got any heft to it, which I'm not used to. I'd chalk that more up to personal preference though. The analog sticks felt a little stiff but I imagine those would break in just fine - I'm sure my Sony controllers felt the same way once.
Outside of those things, it worked as well as any other third-party controller. There's no question that it's not a Sony - but neither is the stuff you'd get from Mad Catz and places like that, stuff for which you'd pay a heck of a lot more. I loved the rumble feature on this thing, and I think it beats the Sony controllers there - you really feel it...not a big deal to some folks I guess, but I feel like if you're going to have that feature at all you should really exploit it. I played Fatal Frame with this and you could really feel the heart beats - very cool. Also, I mentioned that it was light, but it didn't feel like it was of poor quality - someone mentioned loose buttons I think, but I had no such problems with mine. It felt as well made as anything else put together out of plastic.
I'll say this, as the ultimate review: I have a Mad Catz controller that I bought a long, long time ago indeed, and I freakin' hate it. It only gets dragged out for multi-tap FIFA sessions. I would rather use this no-name controller than that Mad Catz controller. So there you go - I won't lie and say it's the greatest controller in the world, but I don't think anyone will argue that the DualShock still reigns. This though is a sweet second controller, certainly not something I'd feel bad about being stuck with myself for gaming, and for the price it's freakin' highway robbery. It is recommended.

From the get go, this looks EXACTLY like an official PS2 controller. The 'feel' on the other hand is a bit different. The analog sticks were very responsive and center. When I mean 'center', I mean that if I let go of the sticks, your character or your view stays. Now this is more evident on some games, an example would be SOCOM 2. With my old PS2 controller, if I let go of the left analog, my character would still move VERY slowly. Now I was thinking maybe it was just years of hard use, but when I tried my cousins 5 day old PS2 controller, it did the exact same thing. When I decided to use this controller on SOCOM 2, it was quick, responsive, and it didn't do the 'moving thing' on the game. The face and shoulder buttons where nice and tight, the only thing I didn't get to do was test the 'pressure sensitive' performance. The rumble feature was ok, I don't really care much for this feature anyway. The one thing that was different though is that the D-pad feels a bit 'spaced' out, but it was precise nonetheless. Went a few rounds with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and I really can't complain. Overall, this is a much better alternative than other 'turd' party controllers due to the fact that it looks and performs equal, if not better, than the official controller.

Scale of 1-10:

Feel and comfort = 10
D-pad = 8
Analog sticks = 10
Rumble feature = 1-10, you decide
Buttons = 10
Value = 10

Sorry it took so dang long defender, I also pm'd and e-mailed you the review. Moving SUCKS!!!!!!!!
