Free Realms - Free to Play MMO on PSN - Out Now
But the whole purpose of F2P is to attract people who wouldn't normally touch an MMO due to the subscription commitment. If they like what they see, then they can decide if they want to pay for more. Yes, that's similar to a demo, but it's not without its merits. It's hard to criticize a game that has a lifetime membership priced at $35. At worst, it equals a budget priced game that you play for a month and never touch again. Not much of an investment risk here. I don't know much about this game, but I can at least appreciate the approach they're taking. I think this is how you make a console MMO work, and it sure as hell is a better approach than DC Universe Online took.
Statistics show that DC Universe Online has been just as successful, if not slightly more so, on the PS3 as it has on the PC. Free Realms will almost certainly get more subscribers on the PS3 (compared to PS3 DCUO) due to its price point, more casual environment, and the fact that it isn't targeted primarily at people familiar with DC Comics characters and environments, but I have loved every second of DCUO since the beta and I was one of those people who scoffed at the notion of paying a monthly fee for any game.

Just played it for about an hour. The game is a technical nightmare, I can't believe Sony put this out.

What issues? I played it for about two hours and it worked just fine.

I think hes talking about the visuals looking like hot garbage and the unresponsive button presses make it almost headache worthy.

No, I'm actually talking about the uneven lag, visuals portraying actions before/after they happened making combat a tricky situation, as well as things such as quest progress still popping up on the screen long after you finished it.

Haven't had much lag at all outside of spawning into heavily populated areas or when trying to do some stuff on my PC that messed with my bandwidth, but I see a little bit of that other stuff occasionally. The weirdest thing I saw was trying to talk to somebody for a quest and not having a prompt to talk to them appear for a minute or so.

None of that sounds like the technical nightmare that you hyped it up to be like it was crashing all the time or something terrible like that. They'll get those bugs sorted out soon enough.

The game is streamed to your PS3. That's why its not 8GB or so, and that explains most issues, it really does rely on if your internet sucks it not.

I hardly ever have lag for anything and it sucks on mine, plus the official forums are 80% full of similar complaints, so that can't be the only issue.

I was going to play it, but as i'm from the UK, some lists and store pages are empty. Playing on a UK Acc and playing on a US Acc are totally different.

Also, you will not be able to subscribe using any other Acc than a US one.

I'm out, shame.

I always compare F2P MMOs to Runescape (haha,) but the fact remains that RS is 100000x better than this fuck. Not trying to troll or threadcrap but seriously, even in the very beginning they're doing hardcore advertising of membership. C'mon Sony. At least do that when we're passed the Tutorial part.

My biggest complaint would be limited to being L4 at 99%. I can't decide what further content I like aside from knowing I like the Soccer Star job and the Brawler job is kinda fugly. At $35 it's cheaper to buy a lifetime sub but I can't see wasting more time on this with all the load times to do anything.
