FREE Year of Amazon Prime for College Students
I'm not a student, but my girlfriend is. She doesn't have an Amazon account -- can I use her e-mail address for my Amazon account to get this, or would she have to create her own?
Yeah you could use her .edu email account. You just sign in using ur Amazon account, then it will ask for an .edu email to link it. You then confirm the link through her .edu email. Siimple and easy.
I have the same problem. I go to a community college, so we don't have emails. Bah.
Lucky for me my community college just got new .edu emails last Feb. Also my lil bro just got .edu email even though hes still in HS. Idk maybe it varies from district to district...

Thanks TC. Signed up. Easy and simple. Just ordered a new gaming mouse. Haha this Prime just saved me $5 in shipping. Thx again...
Bear in mind the student version of Prime is somewhat truncated and there's other benefits to being a paid member besides the free 2 day shipping, not the least of which is the streaming video service. If you decide to do a paid resub after the free year runs out it's still a great deal.
Streaming video is def available to student prime (or at least I have used it on my student prime account). i dont think it's truncated at all in fact. It may have been in the past?
I believe it's one per household
both myself and the wife have student prime accounts. same address...

i think in general, getting them to re-up is no big deal to amazon. they know that it locks you in to a bunch of purchases (especially books) that you might otherwise make elsewhere. I LOVE student prime - free 2 day book delivery, and then they email me buyback offers for the books i bought for class that are actually reasonable. (and release day delivery of video games is no slouch either)

My prime will be ending in July too, and I am contemplating what I should do. Here's a more detailed thread on SD about this very topic.

I will not tell you what to do, but you can read that many have had some luck in getting it extended. Here's an example from earlier today:
Worked beautifully!

1) Cancelled Student Membership (under Amazon.com Your account)
2) Went to Help > Chat
3) Had the following conversation:

Me:prime not activating
Praveen:Hello, My name is Praveen. I'll be happy to help you.
Me:hi there.. i cancelled my student prime membership by accident..i tried to re-activate it but it did not work.
Praveen:I understand that, however i have reactivated the student prime remember ship on your account.
Me: okay..
how can i verify this..?

4) Membership extended until 2012

Thanks to the last few posters who figured this out!

If you decide to give this a try, please post back here with your results. Good luck if you try.

tried the above, they said it couldn't be reactivated/reinstated...

I'll jut pay for it, completely worth $80 anyways
