Friends on ICQ-Help

False Hope

CAGiversary!
Okay, what the hell is so different with ICQ? I've had no problem meeting folks on MSN and Yahoo, but if I try to send someone a message on ICQ (these are all messengers), it's like talking to a rock. I mean, I hardly see anyone with an ICQ number so I can't just compound friends like with MSN or Yahoo (screw AIM). I've seen many times when ICQ is described as superior, but I can't find anyone to talk to just to see how ICQ works and all. I'm not a big instant messenger person, but this has just been annoying me lately. Does anyone on CAG have anyone on their list, and if so, how did you meet them?

Umm. That is part of the reason why ICQ is superior, you don't get spammed by people you don't know. I don't really think you can search users out on it very well at all and I think that was by design to keep people from spamming you. If I run Yahoo I get tons of ppl spamming me. I myself use trillian, all the IM's in one. After you get it customized and get all the annoying sounds and popup notifers cut off its really nice.

ICQ blows. About four years ago I tried it and it crashed any time I'd try to log on. About a year and a half later, I decided to give it another try but it still crashed every time. Gave up on it for good after that.

I didn't know that many people who had it either - just an ex-girlfriend and a couple people I chatted with on the now-defunct go.com chat rooms I used to frequent back then.

ICQ went to crap after AOL bought it and ran it into the ground so there wouldn't be competition for AIM. Of course, that was before Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger were contenders.

I haven't used ICQ in a few years. I don't have the program installed on my latest PC. I remember when I use ICQ a few years ago, people I don't know would send me messages asking me to visit their web site. And it always turn out the web site are those X-rated site.

If you ask me, all the messenger clients are the same. The only way one can be superior to another is if you know more people who use it. Everyone I talk to only uses AIM, so therefore I do too. I think the best solution is Trillian if you want to use multiple services at once.
