Update 12/22: New XBL MP Demo & fixes due to community feedback:
New mulitplayer demo soon. Also the developers are taking community feedback to heart and have since made the changes listed below:
A multiplayer demo of Kaos Studios' FPS Frontlines: Fuel of War will be arriving on Xbox Live Marketplace soon, the developer has told CVG.

The multiplayer tryout follows the single-player demo which arrived on Marketplace last week and don't forget if you'd like a bash at the PC version, we're currently giving away free beta downloads and keys for you to sample.

As it turns out, Kaos has been listening to fan feedback on the demo and has modified the final game thus (it tells us):

"We at Kaos Studios are very interested in your feedback on our recently released single-player demo on the Xbox 360. The community is very important to us and we make an effort to pay attention to what you have to say so we can make this the best game possible.

Controls - We're taking the feedback on the control issues seriously and have already begun making changes. Specifically, the C4 drone controls have been improved and we've looked at the "dead zone" in the sensitivity. You should see a big improvement in the controls when we release the multiplayer demo.

Graphics - We've been optimizing the graphics and there is a dramatic increase in the framerate. The quality of the graphics also have been brought up to par with other large-scale shooters.

Popping - The popping has been reduced but there may still be some in the final game given the size of the levels (3 sq miles) and sandbox environment.

Glitches - The minor clipping issues in the demo have been resolved.

AI - There were some bugs with the AI in the demo, which have been resolved.

Pace of the game - The bigger world will make it feel like the pace of the game is slower but this is also probably related to the control and character speed issues that we are working on.
Frontlines is in the shops in February. Read our hands-on impressions right here.

ah..someone who has played both....please explain, specifically, why Battlefield is better than Frontlines....please don't hesitate to include game details only you (someone who has obviously played both) would know

The LIVE demo is supposed to be out sometime this month aswell. I've seen video and I'm very interested to see if it can hold it's own. Atleast it's not a Middle Eastern setting but instead the US & European Coliation against Russia & China in WW3
I really hope it's like Battlefield 2 (ground combat, flight, etc).
I'm guessing it will be similar.

THQ Interactive and Kaos Studios -- founded by former members of Trauma Studios, creators of Desert Combat and designer of key technologies for Battlefield 2 -- announced today the development of Frontlines: Fuel of War,

Check out the newest IGN hands on article with tank, heli, & Jet gameplay video.

& check out the "drone" gameplay video from last week.

I also just snagged the pre-order disc at BB overthe weekend. It's the usual $5 down, get it back later if you don't want the game deal. It's a regular game case with the disc inside, which contains a single player demo, a gamerpic and a theme (neither very great or outright disgusting, just sort of meh), 3 videos about the game (overview, story, design), 5 songs from the soundtrack that you can listen to (which are actually not too bad), and the trailer which has been around for a while already. There is also some sort of mention of possibly a free map or something upon launch on the front of the box, but it's unclear to me what exactly it is or how one would go about getting it.

The demo is not too bad. Despite the fact that the quite depresing "it's the near future, we are all starving, and fighting over the last droplets of oil" setting, the game might be sort of a new Battlefield MC. You play a generic soldier and if you die, you come back as another one somewhere else on the map. There are seemingly different classes that can be upgraded a bit. There are multi-occupant vehicles as well as a number of drones that have offensive capabilities (a little RC chopper with missiles, an RC car with C4, etc.) Controls seem decent although they don't offer too many variations.

I doubt the single-player campaign will be very memorable, but the online could be fun. The videos mention 32 players and 10 maps out of the box, although game modes are not discussed.

Completely unnecessary. Merely my opinion. Battlefield 2 was amazing and frontlines doesnt really bring anything new to the table. BFBC on the other hand has destructable enviroments

I know I said I was going to play it and updated but I had a really tiresome weekend and didn't get a chance to. I popped it in for 5 min and I was falling asleep, not because of the game though. The game looks slick and it has that GRAW look to it, I'll hopefully have a chance to check it out today and post some impressions later tonight.

Been busy with work...forgot to post about this. Tried the demo last night, It's pretty solid, you have to go around the map taking over territories. The graphics are nice, but not the best I've seen, controls are great but aiming is hard, when you shoot with your AR it goes all over the place, you basically have to shoot in a burst of 1-2 bullets to hit someone. The grenade launcher is a beast and I love how part of the level is destructible, hitting bridges causes bricks to fall off..etc. I got to drive a tank which was pretty cool, seemed easy to handle, also picked up a remote helicopter, that thing was fun, you basically control it with a remote, kinda like in 007: Nightfire, except this chopper packs a shit-ton of power. The level design is well done but the AI is too easy. I gotta say this game reminds me a lot of Star Wars Battlefront, but I'd still take Battlefront over this game anyday. With that said, its a solid title if you like that type of game and I don't see it being enjoyable if you're not going to play online. I'm sure that the online mode will be a blast. This will be the next best thing to Star Wars: Battlefront III

Yea I was suprised to find this on my OXM disc as well. I've followed the dev of this game and it's promising. Played the demo, single player, and had a lot of fun with it. Took out a tank with a RC C4 car hehe. Yea you can't shoot like crazy as in counterstrike, short bursts or better yet flank the enemy or get closer. The tank controls were ackward to me at first but then I got the hang of it. You can shoot and fire a secondary missle. I wish I could play this game online but sadly this feature is not available for me but I say watch this one. I think the multiplayer maps will have the middle tile set randomly generate so the maps will always be different but I'm not 100% sure on this.

And it just went up on LIVE. I'm DL-ing it right now. (1.7gb)

I agree with you. After playing the demo having been interested in this game for a year & a half now I'm disapointed. Bad Company is going make you forget this game was even made IMO except for the "drones" which is a fun aspect.

And that's why I keep thinking this game should have been a 3rd person shooter instead of a FPS. Something just doesn't feel right control & view wise to me. Possibly it's the draw distance, IDK.

Graphically it makes me think of a GRAW - Medal of Honor mix
Is this the "fire a 9mm pistol, blow off the terrorist's arm" game?
I think that's Soldier of Fortune: Payback. ;)

I just finished the demo.

I had heard absolutely nothing about this game until I just saw the demo on Live tonight. I had zero impressions goin in.

The story seems awesome. I love the idea of a near future energy crisis war. The backstory is told thru cutely drawn stillpics, which seemed a little out of place, but I still liked it.

The graphics are impressive. Characters look great up close, and the view distance is damn far with no popin.

The weapons are good ideas in theory. Remote control cars that are rolling bombs. And rc heli's with missles. Plus grenade launchers, sniper rifles, and the usual cast are all there.

Heres where the problems started for me, when I started playing it.

The game moves in slowmotion. Your walk speed is a damn crawl. Crouched speed is snail like. And running is what normal walking should be imo.

Simple tasks like changing weapons, or reloading weapons seem to also be in slowmo. Takes waaaay too long. Even the remote car and helo weapons are painfully slow, both to deploy and to control.

The actual aiming of the weapons seemed way too sensitive on the default settings as well. The slightest touch of my analog stick sent the cursor flying all over the screen. I didnt check if you could change it, I just dealt with it.

The framrate didnt seem that great to me either. It didnt skip or stutter, but it wasnt 60 fps either. It seemed 30 or even a bit under.

I think everything moved and happened soo slow because the game is trying to do too much. There were at least a dozen ai teammates running around with me, and at least that many enemies. Plus shooting and explosions everywhere.

After the on foot portion, there is a short vehicle segment where you drive a tank. That was pretty good and seemed to move faster and run better than the first part of the demo. Yeah, the tank moved quicker than you do on foot.

I played on normal difficulty and didnt die even once. And I was getting peppered with bullets while I stood out in the open and slooooowly changed or reloaded my weapon. I also jumped off the roof of 5 or 6 story building (after being shot) and didnt crater. My tank also took a helluva beating, it was on fire at one point but it still survived. Im not sure what it would take to die in this demo.

In summary: The idea/story of the game seems great. It looks great, it just runs too slow imo. This can due to the fact that this is a demo of course. If they can improve the framerate and increase the walking speed, and the animation speed of reloading and switching weapons, this could be really good. In the end of demo bulletpoints, they promise 32 player online on Live. In its current state that seems like it would be a molasses mess. This game has a ways to go to deliver all it seems to be promising.

Ah, yes, that was it.

Well I'll DL the demo anyways, probably.

Wow. I hated the demo. Waste of time to download it. I can't even pick up the weapons enemies dropped? What the hell. Can't look down the sight (yes, i'm spoiled by it), no sprinting/running.. will definately pass

Theres a run button, but even the running is only as fast as walking in other games.
After playing the demo this game has been added to the list of games I'll be buying when they hit $20.
That shouldn't be to long.

downloaded and played the demo. Loved the begining of the game with the whole set up for the future, but was really dissappointed when the game actually started. For me it felt like the whole history of the character and set up of how hard life was and being a photographer was lost, and now I am some random soldier. Would of liked it to stayed more to the intro story of the character instead of trying to become some GRAW or battlefield game. Doesn't look like I'll even be renting this.

downloaded, played, enjoyed, the intro was pretty creepy / interesting and yes , a little depressing too, i loved the graphics, gameplay is nice but i wonder if they will improve it before its released. the whole "nameless" soldier thing is kinda an interesting topic, i mean, everyone else is used to playing as some unique protagonist, so hey, nice little twist i'd say, esp when you die, instead of some epic death scene, you "become" another one of the soliders out on the battlefield. i wonder how the story would progress though, im keeping an eye on this title

Wow, overall I thought it was ok with some minor problems but it's just a demo. I believe the press guy will follow the fighting and that is how you get the storyline and I thought that was a neat addition. I'm going to rent this, add it to my gameQ when it gets onto Gamefly. I rent the games that are decent and I can see potential here. I also felt the tank drove like a hovercraft. Sound off on xbox's forums so people know what to fix and leave feedback.;)

i REALLY enjoyed the demo....I thought the gameplay was pretty solid (except the floaty tanks). I enjoyed i though...I didn't watch the cinematics at all....I could care less about a story for the demo.

I finally had a chance to play the demo last night. I rather enjoyed it, but I felt that the character moves rather slowly. I like how you can pick up other weapons and add them to your inventory without actually replacing the weapon you already had in your hand, as well as the on-screen display for when you want to switch weapons. The graphics were pretty nice, too.

I'll be watching for this one to drop to a nice cheap price, only because I don't like to pay full-price for anything anymore.

I need to play around with the C4 drone, because I didn't know how the heck to use it.

When does this game come out?

The demo was SO bad. The worst 20 minutes of my life.

The opening cinematic was great, and then they suddenly toss you in this crapfest of a festering shitpile of feces.

You obviously didn't play the Hour of Victory demo then did you?... ;)

I was highly anticipating this game. Then, I played the demo, and it's not nearly as good as I hoped. I was hoping that it would top CoD4, which was probably much too high expectations. All well, I really don't see myself buying this game.
This game is mediocre at best. Glad I can save my money
Yeah, gotta agree with you on that. I might pick it up when it hits like 20 bucks, otherwise, no chance.

I also have to agree, the MP demo was not the best. It trys to be like the real Battlefield 2 for PC. I did love that there are Helos and planes and tanks, ect... (something that I think COD4 sorely misses), but I think I will pass on this game unless I can get it for $30...

Don't tell me this guys, I'm so excited for this game. It looks like a juiced up CoD mixed with Warhawk. I guess I'll have to play the demo when I get home...
