That's insane. Is there anything stopping someone from just taking the money and never showing up on this site again? I guess if you used Paypal you can do a dispute and you should win. Tell me you didn't send a M.O.?

I wouldn't have posted if I didn't pay...

Payment cleared the day before he disappeared. No warning. I noticed he hasn't logged in, but after 2 weeks I figured I'd be "public" since the disappearance immediately after confirming a high dollar sale is... concerning.

Hopefully it's just a misunderstanding. Of course I used Paypal and my AMEX covers me. Normally, I wouldn't be all concerned, but given the amount and the no activity since the payment, it seems like a good move. The tracking given to paypal is from Airborne Express (which doesn't exist anymore as DHL bought it like 4 years ago) and is an invalid number with ANY shipper. PMs indicated it'd be sent UPS.

Tracking provided to Paypal was: "75296862399".

What's funnier is AS I WRITE THIS, I logged into Paypal to verify the number. The dispute opened there already has been responded to (automated by Paypal since he "shipped with Paypal shipping! with the following:

"Tracking Company: Airborne Express
Tracking Number: 75296862399"

Again, hilarious that this is even an option given that AIRBORNE EXPRESS DOES NOT EXIST. The e-mail I received indicates that I have to wait 3 business days now before the dispute will move further. This is pretty sad, but definitely what I'm used to from Paypal at this point.

Icy's been a CAG as long, or longer than I have. His feedback is a few, but all high praise. His ebay wasn't bad either. It's just... funny and definitely smells of an issue. I gave some time and benefit from receiving the tracking that seems fraudulent--- but I can't wait anymore for something that is never coming.
 
I was going to buy it off of him but he refused to ship first and that's an automatic red flag for me.
I dealt with him before and he did ship the product but took him forever and the package was kinda cut up so I didn't leave any feedback.

Considering you were BUYING and not TRADING, there should be no seller willing to send first. That's just illogical, especially given the item you wanted sent first.

That said, I'm hoping to see some response. Some is better than none.
 
airborne express does exist, its under DHL... i live in a small town and airborne express frequents here occasionally.

As a separate entity, not so much. All tracking, etc is through DHL and the DHL site. The numbers are all DHL numbers now. The fact that the PMs said UPS and the tracking provided is not valid from any carrier remains.
 
Hope things turn out okay for you. I thought it was a little fishy that he was selling it for such a cheap price. As for him not logging on since 7/21, maybe he only logs in once every week or so? I wonder if you could PM a mod to see if CAG keeps records of a member's login activity? Meaning if it showed that he logged in every day up until the day you paid him, that wouldn't be a good sign. But if it shows that he logs in once a week, like 7/04, 7/11, 7/18, then maybe he's just the type that doesn't log in every day.

Wait maybe I wasn't clear on my post. My offer was I pay half and have him send it first and then I pay the rest after I get it but he was actually pretty rude about it.
Also, I don't see the big difference between trading and buying. Instead of trading for another item, I am exchanging cash. I think it's only fair that I person with less feedback send first.

The whole thing smells funny based on the tracking. At this point, he's not responded to PMs OR e-mails to the Paypal account email OR the Paypal correspondence.

The processes used (shipping via Paypal and providing a fake tracking #) also smells of scam. I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt (and it's still only a few weeks out), but I'm also not about to be a victim because someone decided they didn't want to be a CAG anymore.

On 7/20 he indicated "I'll be getting it out on monday via UPS."
