Hey guys, do any of you know what brands these mats are? I just bought ddrmax2, I only have a ps2, and I plan on getting some good quality ddr pads 30.00 and above from fye.com because I have store credit there. I don’t plan on going to ebay or anywhere else for now.
I heard the ultimate dance mat might be by intec, and that company doesn’t seem to be liked by a lot of ddrfreaks (over at the forums). There are no descriptions of these products on fye.com/wherehouse so I was wondering if anyone bought any ddr pads from them and can help me out? Thanks .
Here’s the link to them, they’re at the bottom of the page.

In the end, the plastic dance mats don't last too long if you are really into DDR, at least they never lasted for me, average of about 2.5 months per pad and I tried various brands. There is a foam insert one that gamestop sells for 100 bucks, but I am 100% certain you can get it for lots cheaper than that if you look around, I never tried that one, but it looks promising. I personally payed like 120-150$ (I forget) and got myself a metal one off of ebay. I've had it for over a year now and still no problems, but if your just a mild player then the plastic ones should last longer for you, there was a time when I was playing DDR every day.

Same deal for me. I tried a few of the cheapo mats, and that's what happened to me as well. I went to ebay and found a metal mat that the seller had accidentally input a (extremely low) BIN price, and I jumped on it before he realized. Well, he sold me the mat, and I've had it for over a year now. It's great.

if its that Red Octane Ignition pad.. its amazing.. its like having a metal pad without the metal pad price.. i prefer arcade DDR the best.. and its nice having a Nickle arcade nearby with 3 different DDRs.. but yeah.. i suggest that Ignition pad.. my friends have had it for roughly a year and it still works like new. the cheapo pads are just that cheapo...

You can make a cheapo-pad last a long time by hard modding it. Get a slab of plywood, and have it cut to slightly larger than the pad's dimensions (about 2 inches on every side, including the top's electronic box). Go to Home Depot and get some plastic hardwood floor covering (it's clear and you can slide real easy on it w/ socks). Get tape and a good stapler. Take the pad home, slap it on the plywood, and tape it down. Put the hardwood floor covering on top (if there's some decoration, put that facing down...you want the play surface smooth), cut to size, and staple to the plywood. Put the bottom layer of hardwood cover down (one strip wont cover the entire thing), tape and staple. Last, tape the two strips of covering together (you should overlap the edges, so it sticks together better). Then play. :) One pad will last you about a year of hard constant play.

A normal red octane pad will be sufficient for your DDR playing regardless of how much you play. It is very reliable, highly rated and personally I have been using it for 7 months (I DDR at least 3 times a week for an hour or so) with no problems. Sure its a bit pricey (you can nab but for 50) but it will last you for quite a while and your less likely to fall while playing and as the kids say "bust your ass".

so, i guess no one has seen these fye pads, huh? i just got ddrmax2 and would probably wouldn't play it all day, so i might give the pads a try.

i do enjoy the helpful input so far on modding...and metal pads. i'll probably modify these pads if i get em, too.

by the way, does anyone know if fye has a customer service phone number that's toll free? the email customer support sucks. :bomb: thankx
