FYE Taking Wii and PS3 Pre-Orders

It's official. FYE is taking both Wii and PS3 pre-orders, the first chain I know to be doing so. Give 'em $50 (plus tax where applicable) to get on the list. At my local store, I'm first on the list for the Wii and second for the PS3. Used my store credit to secure both systems.

In case it helps the cashier find them in the system, my receipts list the items as "WII-SYSTEM PRESALE" and "PS3-SYSTEM 60G PSALE" respectively.

IMO, FYE is one of the best places to pre-order a system because no one really thinks to go there. I pre-ordered my 360 there (I was second on the list) and got the system on launch day no problem.

So get thy ass to FYE and pre-order pronto!

actually, this is my favorite deturrent from the cliched "would you like to reserve anything" remark i get all the time. I've learned that saying "no" usually results in them wanting more information. I've started saying "Nintendo Wii" some time ago.

Even though they might chuckle, scoff, or tell me its not possible, it seems to get them to shut up faster
 
I reserved a PS3 today, 7th on the list. Manager said it might take a while to get that far down the list since he only expects 2 units on launch day... so we'll see...
 
No price on the Wii and no lineup for the virtual console yet. Thanks, I'll pass and wait a few months to get one.
 
Might place a preorder for a Wii if I drop by a FYE anytime soon. If not, I'll just go back to the old fashioned camping technique, I live right behind the mall anyway.
 
I just got my preorder at store #1391 in Chula Vista, CA. This location even has seperate SKUs for the 20GB and 60GB preorders. So supposedly I'm like number 5 for the 60GB model.
 
I guess ill wait out on pre ordering this time around.

The PS3 game prices have me scared a bit and the nintendo Wii I might want to wait out for more colors...
 
I talked to the manager at the local EB here and he said when they take preorders for the Wii and PS3, you will have to pay full price down.
 
I have no problem preordering in full. That's what I did for the PS2 and I wasn't turned away on launch day like so many others. I just wish they werent waiting so long.
 
called my Fye's and they seem to no longer carry any games any more and transfered my pre-order to another store....

Manager there said that he had a big pile of pre-orders and he guaranteed everyone will get one at launch(yeah right)

and if you pre-ordered back in march and not recently, you couldn't specify which system and the computer wouldn't specify either...I had to tell the manager which system I wanted(60GB version)....even though I pre-ordered in March I really doubt that I'll get a PS3 from Fye's on launch now....makes me kinda sad...Ill call in a few weeks to reconfirm what I heard
 
If I do decide to get a PS3, I'm probably going to camp outside while I'm playing my DS (Ironic, Isn't it?) I'll let you guys know. Anybody in the SJ/Milpitas/Sunnyvale/Fremont CA area here? We can have Mario Kart Sessions while we wait! :rofl:
 
im definitely gonna line up for one of these systems if i cant be put on a list somewhere around the top. after seeing so many people make so much money on the 360, its easily worth the time spent
 
I hate my FYE. I went in this morning and the same b*tch from yesterday was there so I still couldn't preorder a Wii cuz according to her, there's no such thing.

I reserved a Wii today (1st on the list), and a PS3 (7th on the list). I told him that I only wanted a PS3 if it was on the first launch, otherwise I want my money back and the clerk there told me that was fine. Obviously, I think the PS3 is overrated and if I can make a cool grand out of buying one, I'm all for that.

I cant tell if there will be a shortage of PS3's or not. On one hand they are making units already and on the other reports say that there will be massive amount of units in excess of 60% of cell side parts that just cant be used.
 
I really don't want to give FYE my money, but it's probably the only way to get a Wii at launch. Are all the colors going to be available at launch? I really want a green one but I definetly won't wait for it to be released.

Went to my local FYE yesterday. It was not taking Wii pre-orders, which didn't bother me too much, but when I asked about reserving a PS3 (which they had new signs up for and everything), the guy said that I would be 57th on the list and I probably (definitely) would not be getting one at launch. I asked how 57 people had pre-ordered in the last day or two and he said that they had been taking pre-orders since February. Oh well.
 
Am I the only one iffy about first generation PS3 consoles, especially after seeing some of the PS2 problems and the fact that they were still having overheating issues and everything as little as a month ago (on the PS3). Then again, I am always weary about a 1st Gen system at launch.

Thats why you opt for the warrenty, yeah costs extra I know but at least if something happens you aren't fucked.

I was told that it would be for the 3rd launch payload for my PS3. I promptly said no thank you, as I'm sure that I'll find one earlier than that.
 
Called my local FYE and was told they were taking preorders for the Wii. Additionally I would be #1 on their list. I'm heading out there later today.....
 
Stopped over at my FYE during lunch today and preordered both a PS3 and a Wii. 2nd on the PS3 list and first on the Wii list. Thanks OP

With a $600 loan, I could preorder 12 PS3s.

Flip them on eBay for $1000-$2000 each ($400-1600 profit each), pay back the loan and pay off either a credit card or a car loan.

Of course, there's going to be 1 million PS3s at launch and 4 million by Christmas.

Does anybody want to join me in a hearty laugh?

there has been talk that EB may require you to place down a much larger amount than $50, possibly $200 or the entire price

In Japan, all preorders will be filled in a timely fashion without long lines or near riots.

The EB Games manager here in town told me just that. Both the Wii and PS3 will be full priced pre-orders only.

i have no problem with that...i mean just throw it down on a credit card and pay the $2.50 extra for that month of interest...theyre not starting preorders till october anyways
 
So ya what happens when sony doesn't ship enough even to fill the preorders for FYE and every1 has to wait until next year to get one? also for all the e-bayers out there at least half the people who have come into the EB games i work at asking about preorders want to sell it on ebay as well... i have this wonderful feeling that there will be plenty of those on ebay for competition. then again... i'm more of a nintendo fan myself

I love how FYE managers are making promises about what shipment you'll get your system from when nobody has any idea how many systems will be available at launch.

I thought there wouldn't be any supply problems with the Xbox 360.

If only I had locked up $10K in preorders the May before...

Sony is going to bungle the PS3 release.

Even if they manage to double the number of consoles in the US markets at launch, what does that mean?

Every store will have 50 people waiting in line for 8 consoles.

I would try this but I know some of my local FYE's were taking PS3 preorders since last year, and that they're closed off. The only FYE I could think of going to would be in Meriden, but that's a bit of a drive. Meh, we'll see.
 
Argh..I called yesterday afternoon and was told I would be #1 if I showed up and when I showed up in the evening I had already been bumped to #3 on the Wii list.......:bomb:

All righty CT CAGs, I just got off the phone with a couple FYE's in my area, and here's basically the rundown: The Waterbury Brass Mill, Meriden, Milford/Boston Post Road, Westfarms, and Danbury Fair Malls are all taking FYE preorders, but have been for about five months. Each and every said to not expect to get yours by Christmas.

I will definitely preorder a Wii, but I'm not getting a PS3. I don't mind if I have to put the full price down for it.
