G4 continues its downward spiral
The fact that I write web reviews for them notwithstanding, I like X-Play. Always have. Adam and Morgan are a good balance of credibility and humor. They do a good job, in my opinion, and are both actual gamers.
So many things that they do make little sense. As sketch said, they are too concerned with jokes instead of giving an informing opinion on what they think of the game. Jokes are great for transitions between (p)reviews, but they need to mostly stay away from the reviews.
On the other hand, GameSpot should be nowhere near network TV. The few times they've been on G4 have been trainwrecks. Unattractive, uncharismatic train wrecks. I know and like a few of their guys, but they do NOT belong on TV.
As far as I can tell, GameSpot's guys actually give their opinion on what they are demoing during On the Spot. I don't care if the X-Play hosts play games if they don't give their opinion on them. And the jokes that Jeff Gerstmen say are much funnier since he's actually thinking of them instead of the X-Play hosts reading them off of paper, IMO. His are smarter and quick.

I'm sure their E3 coverage will be nothing but that black guy from Street Fury, getting booth babes to shake their asses in front of the camera, while he yells out "Awwww yeah, son" "Get Crunk, bitches, get crunk!" and "Shake dat ass, beeeetch!" and other Nig-Speak.

There are inherent advantages and disadvantages to improv and scripted comedy, to be sure. I've never watched On The Spot, so I can't really comment. I can only say that, when I saw Gerstman co-host AOTS once or twice, I did not think his presence added anything positive to the broadcast.

Regarding G4's E3 coverage, I thought last year's was great. They had all the big names show up, and gave some really good run-downs. If you couldn't be there, it was definitely the next best thing. This year should be just as good for them, if not better. I'll be doing on-camera stuff for GameTrailers.com for this year's E3, so I may be a little biased with E3 2006 coverage when all is said and done, but they certainly set the bar high.

god! i miss TechTV!!! G4 SUCKS!!! Big Monkey BALLS!! (they better do good with E3 this year!!!)

btw, Sara Lane was hott!!! 4 get this new girl ( whats wrong with her smile? & her lips??? )

YOU'VE BEEN HOMEROWED!!!

Icons, the one decent VG-related show they had, is coming with new eps except without the VG? What the hell is wrong with them?

The rest of the network can't get any worse, though. ...one would like to hope.

Heck, I was actually surprised that we got 2 full hours of actual video game coverage this weekend...an ENTIRE 2 HOURS...ALL WEEKEND!!

Thank Jeebus the Godfather was on all weekend on AMC!
I just don't get why they got a WOMAN to do the talent finding for GUYS?!?! That is a fucking stupid idea.
More chicks = more 13 year olds watching.

Yeah, G4 was o.k. when it transitioned from being tech tv but now it's horrible. All the "tech" shows are disappearing and now I have to watch shows about "pimping my ride". If I wanted to watch that crap I would watch MTV, Spike, or even Speed channel.

It was really good, but I hope that with all of these changes on the network, they won't ruin the E3 show with trying to make it "better".

Thanks for the ignore option.
If you're offended by the term "Nig-Speak", which I used to describe the language used by someone who fits every single negative African American stereotype, then I apologize. Please grow thicker skin, get your thumb out of your mouth, and move on.

The point is that we're trying to break stereotypes around here. If we all fit into those stereotypes, this entire board would be in nothing but leet speak. It'd be all noob, pwn, and all that other garbage that people think constitutes language. If you're going to use a word here, make sure you'd use it around your friends or at work. If it doesn't pass that test, we don't want to hear it. And if you sit around your house and talk to your friends like that, you all need go down to the ghetto and try talking like that. We'll see how many people appreciate your new word for their language.

Yes, we should stray from stereotypes. However, the guy in question, "Big C" (or whatever his name is), is the definition of that stereotype. If it were some regular black guy, like that Will Whatever from AOTS, I wouldn't use that expression, since he talks like a normal human being, not a gold toothed cut out of everything you see on "Direct Effect" on MTV. And if I were in the ghetto, the only thing I would say to anyone is "Hey taxi!"
