Although this response is to an older post I wanted to give you guys a heads up. I recently purchased a DS Lite bundle from Gadget-Asia after they answered all of my questions regarding the system I was purchasing. When I received the system, I noticed slight discoloration of the box and no serial number on the box. Which already indicated something was a miss. I checked the system serial number which was for a "U.S" version DS Lite. So, ok here we have a system released exclusively for Japan with a U.S serial number.
I contact Gadet-Asia and explain that their item specifically states this is a Nintendo DS Lite in stock NIB from Japan, (mind you there are tons of stock room pictures shown to ensure the customer feels at ease with their purchase), I explain that the system I received has a serial number which does not correspond to the region it was released in. I then ask for an explanation and waited for a repsonse....and waited...and waited.
Now I'm tried of waiting and contact Nintendo for clarification. Nintendo of course responds quickly and professionally (I just love their customer service). While Nintendo does not promote "grey market" systems (Systems sold in regions they are not intended for), they were gracious enough to confirm that the system which I purchased had a serial number which did not coincide with the version released in Japan and that they therefore believed I had purchased a counterfeit system. They also made sure they thanked me and forwarded the information to their Legal Department.
With this information in hand I went to PayPal and filed a claim, I also e-mailed Gadget-Asia informing them that I was aware that the system sent was not legit In hopes of, I don't maybe they believed to have legit systems and somehow they accidently received a bogus system in their shipment from a dealer (yes grasping at straws here), them rectifying the situation. I have not heard from them and am currently waiting...
In the mean time I'm out cash, and have a counterfeit system sitting on my desk, ahh the joys of importing . I'll let you know if I ever get my cash back (one can dream can't one?)
