Sorry, I'm a noob and I'm wondering if two games will run on my laptop. I wanna order them now, so they'll get here shortly after my system arrives on monday.

my specs:

HP pavilion ZV6270us
Amd 64 athlon 3500+ 2.2GHz
128 ati Radeon Xpress 200M igp
1gb of ram

the games I want to run on it:
Half Life 2
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Thanks in advance :)

is it because of the graphics card? (vampire is on the HL2 engine, so I guess that would rule it out too..)

Yep, you could probably make it with the processor (though its a little questionable) and the ram would be enough but the graphics card is what would really trip you up.

oh yeah, i forgot, most pc games have demos. I think I'll do that. I'm guessing it's at the steam site?

What are you talking about? An Athlon64 3500+ will easily handle HL2. He just needs a real gfx card, and make sure that it won't get too hot since it's a laptop.

itll run just fine, those people are just jealous their laptops dont have as much power as yours. my lap top is a similiar setup, with a better processor but less ram and a mobility radeon 9700 128 mb and HL2 runs likes a champ on it

There's a world of difference between mobility 9700 and X200M. X200M can be thought of as a lower version of the mobility X300. While HL2 may run on the X200M, it'll be unplayable for most ppl I'm sure. My laptop has 256MB nVidia 6800 Go, and it doesn't run F.E.A.R. and Doom 3 quite as smooth as I want them to run at 1024x768 w/ full details.

I appreciate the input anyway. read a little and it seems like the Xpress 200 is an exception for integrated cards and the source engine. I just wanna play vampire and some of the mods, like Eclipse, and maybe Couterstrike:Source and Guild Wars. other than that, the computer just needs to run Melty Blood and Alice. ;)

My sister's laptop has X300 on it. It does run Guild War fairly well at 1024x768, not quite as smooth, but avgs out about 30fps.

I've got a
DFi-Tech SLI-DR
A64 +3200
1gb of random ram
GeForce 5200 FX

I can run CS:S online with 80 fps.

He can sure as hell run HL2.

Really? I thought HL2 required a processor speed of around 3 GHz?

Edit- Huh, what do you know, even the recommended is only 2.4 GHz. Then again it also lists 512 mb of ram on the recommended and that's what I was initially running it on which took forever for load times...

I think 1,5 is required. Vampire runs on the same engine and only requires a 1.2 gig processor and works with all geforce and radeon cards 7000 and up (from what the box said)

as far as RAM, I agree that a good amount is a must. I had a little less than a gig and still got some stutter due to loading.

Got the computer today and i'm just finishing up installing everything on it. (this thing is a godsend compared to my dell dimension 8100, heh) Got the HL2 demo up and running. model and texture detail are high, no aliasing, simple reflection and blooming are on and it's running decent. not sure how to tell what fps it's at. I'm going to try out vampire tomorrow, which I'm finding out is just a glitchy game no matter what (gotta try it though, looks really cool)

Maybe by Intel specs, but the 64 3500+ will smoke HL2 even at stock speeds.
