Game Crazy located in Burbank, Illinois (60459) will be shutting their doors on Sunday, April 5th for good. 90% of good product has been shipped out, and the liquidation phase has begun. It is really sad because my store has been putting out great numbers, and our revenue has been about 30% more than last year.

So why close a great store?

Hollywood Video.

The Hollywood Video we are connected with sucks. They are constantly in the negatives with all numbers and revenue tandems. Game Crazy cannot support Hollywood Video. Customers are pissed, I am pissed, my manager and fellow employees are pissed. This just sucks. We were told yesterday, and before it even has a chance to really sink in, it'll all be over. 5 Guys who worked together for more than 3 years in the same location will now try to be adopted into new homes.

A store in Houston is next, and that should be it until the fall. If you are from the Houston area, keep your eye out for a closing store.

If you shopped there, thank you. It was a pleasure serving you.

Well that sucks... there are fewer and fewer GC stores around. I usually didn't shop there much, just because they aren't really close to my house, but they did have some good games for prices below GS (and vice versa) The only store that I went to (it was around Des Plaines) closed down like a year ago and I haven't been to a GC since.

It's sad to see how Hollywood Video is bringing GC down. Why can't they just figure out that they should get rid of Hollywood Video's instead... not many people rent movies these days (cause of online renting and such), but people still do buy videogames, and will continue buying videogames. I hope that they catch their mistakes before it is too late and both HWV and GC are all shut down.

Or, worse yet, Gamestop gobbles up another competing chain and furthers their near monopoly. THAT would be MUCH worse than GC or HWV going down the drain individually or collectively, if you ask me. The closest GC to me is about 35-40 miles away from me, so I get down there maybe ONCE a year and I have yet to find anything aside from classic plastic that I really want.

Maybe if I lived closer, I'd be there all the time, but the trek just isn't worth it.

That sucks.. it's tough leaving a job you like not on your own terms. A couple months ago 99% of the crew I worked with at GC left after years together. The store location is still there, but the place really, really changed, and we couldn't go with it.

Our DM told us several times the only reason the GC side was still open was because of Hollywood foot traffic. We had a lot of amazing, loyal customers, but there was just too much competition in the area.

Or worse yet, before Gamestop gobbles up yet another competitor in Gamecrazy and tightens their iron grip even further. I just wish our only 'local' GC wasn't 35 or so miles away, since I'm sure I'd shop there as frequently as I do the local shops, but the trek just isn't worth it to be told that the employees picked clean the 'good stuff' from the classic plastic boxes/bins and to find nothing I really want.

Sorry to hear that. I left Gamecrazy in June 2007. I was a Store Director of a standalone GC. The corporate leadership of Movie Gallery are clueless idiots. They don't and won't get what we know. Close MG and HV and open stand alone Gamecrazys. Why they stopped at only 17 standalone stores I'll never know. Oh yeah I do, CEO Joe thought the video game industry was a fad, just like online movie rentals, and digital distribution. Blame CEO Joe Malugen and his total lack of vision.

A Gamestop buddy of mine told me of a rumor within his company that Gamestop is looking to acquire Gamecrazy. I informed him that it would be stupid of GS to do as they would have to buy HV and MG with GC, and that I thought GS was into making money through acquisition. Unless GS wants to just buy the 17 standalone GCs.

Renting movies is a dying business. Why try? Netflix, Amazon Unbox, Walmart, Apple TV, Vudu, Cable PPV, and piracy. All of those continue to chip away at Movie Gallery's coffers. There is no salvation for the video rental store. It is meant to die.

Movie Gallery's corporate leadership reminds me of the old guy who just ignores chest pain, hoping it will just go away, only to collapse into a dying heap with his body facing the phone he should have picked up hours earlier.

I hope you find a good job that you enjoyed as much as your GC.

Sorry to hear that man, Game Crazy seems like a good compliment to those of us who don't like Game Stop for one reason or another. Although... it's been in the news that the parents company is going under for a long time.. I'm wondering how surprised you should really be about it.

I love my closest GC, but unfortunately, it's nearly an hour away. I would be heartbroken if it closed, so I feel for you, OP.

I wish somebody at Hollywood Video got their act together, because Gamestop needs real competition, and I'll support whoever brings it on.

Went into the Tacoma, WA gamecrazy to see if they had any of the sega games still available. The moment i walk thru the door the guys that work there are packing everything up, walls are empty and they go 'yup, store closing'

Sad times.

You guys had a good store and you seemed to have a tight crew, but it was bound to happen to either your store or that store in Bridgeview. I mean, those two stores are what, 2 miles from each other? Oh, and by the way, I'm the big guy from Indiana who does ebay, i'm in there every now and then and your store manager probably knows me. Sorry to see you guys go, I got some great deals from your store in the past (but you guys usually grab the good stuff!)

WOW!! i think i actually found that store!! it closed awhile ago (maybe 3 weeks ago). couple of interestin' things there, but only current gen game was a 360 game (which i got); hot wheels. that's pretty much it :p

This is new news to me. I can't believe the hollywood video that i always go to is closing and they are selling off everything even the fixtures. good thing i picked up orange box for 15 bucks though.

My Hollywood Video is always packed and has an excellent non-GameCrazy video game selection (one of those Walmart-like glass carts, and then two full length shelves of used games, not to mention rentals). I thought more were like mine, apparently it's rare though? I count on my Hollywood Video for most of the new releases that no one else has. During Christmas time where EVERY store was out of Guitar Hero III for Wii, my Hollywood Video had three bundles and my parents got one for me and one for my cousin as gifts.
