So...

I go into Game Crazy a month or so again and trade in lots of games. The guy gets all screwed up trying to apply the MVP +10% bonus, but finally gets the total right (I ALWAYS total the values up in my head because otherwise you'll often get screwed).

So today I go back in and trade in another game for $25. He looks at my account (what business it is of his, I don't know) and finds that the last time I was in the guy who took in my games gave me credit for some of them and then just added $40 credit because he couldn't figure out how to get it right, I guess.

He gives me several suspicious looks and asked a lot of questions about the last transaction and I tried to explain to him that the last guy didn't know what he was doing and probably just put the amount in without putting in the games. At the end of the transaction, I was leaving and noticed on my receipt that this guy (believe it or not) screwed up the +25% bonus on the game I had just traded in. I go back and tell the guy he screwed up (this is on my lunch break) and long story short-he couldn't figure out how to give me the extra credit and says "Let's just call it even" (because he still didn't get that the $40 was for actual games rather than a clerical error by the guy who last took my games in). I explained one more time that I thought he was confused but said forget it, I'm late for work.

Well, I get back home and there's a message on my machine "Uh, this is xyz from Game Crazy. I wanted to let you know that I figured out how to credit your account with the extra credit we owed you and also we are having corporate look into that problem we ran into with the mystery $40 on your account. Thanks"

It took me all of 5 seconds to piece together that my $40 is about to magically disappear as soon as "corporate" decides that this was an error. Any suggestions from you actual Game Crazy workers out there? Has this happened before? If so, will they take my money? If I spend it first, will they just hit my account at one of the other Game Crazy stores where I am holding credit? Thanks for your input in advance.

A good plan, but the reason the credits are sitting there is because they don't have anything I want right now. I'm waiting for the Valkyrie Profile or Suikoden, etc to show up.

Yeah yeah, they're rare (dream on, etc.), but the ones I'm looking for cycle through. I trade there regularly and just clearing out the money so Game Crazy can't have it is counter-productive to what I put all the effort of trading these games in for.

Also, yes, the money is spread over about 7 different Game Crazies. So it's a little complicated if I'm going to try to clean out my account at EVERY store.

as long as you have your reciept for the credit they can't take it away from you. They'll probably just discipline the employee if he did something wrong. I'd call This asshole's supervisor and try to get him fired, though. He shouldn't be calling you with threats implying he's going to take your credits away.

Wow, I'd find that original employee and punch him in the throat. And then find that other guy and punch his throat for trying to 'call it even'. Go back, tell him you'd find it about square if he left your $40 credit alone, applied the 25% bonus you were entitled to for your other game, and ask to speak to someone higher up than him. I work for GameStop, and if I ever gave credit to someone without having games to back it up, or tried to 'call it even' with someone who has a perfectly valid complaint, I'd be fired on the spot, no question. Find someone above the deal-maker asshole and get what's yours man.

good point, but who knows what the fine print says.

...that might not work. oddly enough, you CANNOT use credits to buy thier own MVP card...so not everything is kosher there

Yeah, you have to use that money up, quickly. It's going to be easier to buy stuff you could resell/trade than it is to get them to give you your money back once they take it from you, which they will.

If this clown has moved it forward to corporate then who knows, they may have put a hold on your account till it gets figured out.

Which ever the case, go now. Spend the money. Do a quick search on Ebay for some stuff you may remember being in stock and buy it then resell it.

I'm not sure how this Gamecrazy stuff works, but can you buy new games, save the receipt, and return them at a different Gamecrazy? Possibly for cash?
Or set up a different account by using a fake name, beforehand, make sure you get a haircut and some bleach, drive a different car, use a fake accent, wear glasses (or don't if you already do), and cut off your fingerprints. or just have someone else go in for you.

Either way, bring a knife, in case shit starts poppin' off. They send one of yours to the hospital, you send two of theirs to the morgue.

Really? I used my credits to get an MVP. Does it matter that I got the MVP card at the same time I traded it in?

Id recommend trying to get a gift card with your credits, not even sure if they have gift cards, but its a worth a shot.

i tried to get the card while tradin in...no deal. I think its just that 4 out of 5 people who work there are dickholes. the 5th person ive figured out are really just rotating part-timers that seem nice and intelligent...which is why the probably leave so soon.

On a side note..went there yesterday and i noticed a sign that says "We can search any of our 800 locations to find you that game or system your looking for" and they had a fee of $5 for a game and $10 console if they shipped it over. Fair enough, i want a Sega Saturn, and id have to pay $10 shipping on ebay anyways.. So i ask him if he can check the other stores, and proceds to ask me "Which store would you like me to call?

Shoot me.

There isnt some sort of cool computer controlled inventory, its back stock by SBC. They make me unhappy.

If there is ever a Satrurn for the taking at any of the locations what are the chances it's complete with the box?

LMAO. In their defense, the sign read "We can search any of our 800 locations...", not "We can search all of our 800 locations...".

hell it could have said that...but its like asking for a Mustang and getting a horse. Its what you asked for, but not quite it...

i had *1* go through my local GC and, well, it was broken. you had to hold down the a/v cable to have it work. Not good.

As for with box...it depends on who brings it back and in what condition. Just like EB and Gamestop...except GC still carries the classics.

VERY good idea[/quote]

This is a great idea, and will take all of about 5 minutes for me to find the answer to. Let's see, where is that phone number...?

...and the answer is...

"Daaahh...Ye--uh, hold on...(phone muffled presumably by putting phone over shirt)..."Hey, can we let someone use their store credit to buy gift cards?" (More muffled incoherent conversation, then he comes back on the phone).

"Uhh...sure, I've never done it before but we should be able to."

I assume that this is going to turn into the ultimate YMMV, but at least I didn't get the door slammed in my face and it looks like the right person could make this work. Thanks for the great idea!

let us know if this worked or not, this is hilarious. I imagine that employee will get fired for somethign stupid sooner or later.

Store credit cannot be used to get a gift certificate (atleast not at Store Manager level, maybe higher ups can)

MVP can be purchased with store credit (Ive done this 1000+ times at my store for numerus customers who trade in and buy it)

GC computers are CRAP. Its no wonder he couldn't figure it out. We have to hand type everything and look for coupons.

We have a special order program. For $6 a game, $10 for consoles, we fill out a peice of paper with what you want, and fax it. Are "special order department" will call stores that have it in stock, and have it shipped out. I have had 2 customers do this, and receied there product in 10 days. I did this myself, and it was 7. HOWEVER, you neve rknow if it will come with the manual an case, as it is not required. So don't expect to find a mint suikoden 2 with manual and case.

Any other questions?

Well,

If you wanted to know what finally happened, here is the end of the story. Not particularly exciting but here goes:

I went back in and the guy was going to give me the gift certificates (different employee than the guy who was all suspicious). He was filling out the paperwork and said "What are you going to do with all these gift certificates?"

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it - I just wanted the credit - but I had been considering getting an X-Box (Yes, I must be one of the last CAG's to get an X-Box). They didn't have one, but in the course of our conversation he mentioned that they had 1 of the Halo Special Edition X-Boxes left.

Long story short, I went out to my car and dipped into my "stash" (several games I carry around with me that I have gotten real cheap just in case). I traded in a few more games, took the X-Box, got a Playstation game, and headed out.

That's about it. Also, I would appreciate it if gizmogc could keep this gift card thing to himself if he doesn't mind. The stores up here don't seem to mind doing it and I sure appreciate the prospect of being able to "carry" my credit around in my wallet rather than having to spend it at the store where I trade in my game.

Chosen, as far as I know, store credit can not be turned into a gift certificate. I'm not sure how they managed to do it (most likley the DM had Tech. Support turn it into cash). Anyways, glad to see everything is ok.

Tell them to start with the A's and work their way through to the Z's!!! :)

I've traded there at least 5 times with no problems. Their trade-in values are a bit higher than EB especially with the MVP card, so I was able to get the games I wanted to get with minimum spendage. YMMV I suppose
