General info:

Game Room was released on Mar. 24, 2010. Game packs are free to download, but each individual title costs 240 MSP or $3 to keep in your "arcade" and play indefinitely. New titles are scheduled to release in the in-game store every Wednesday, however updates don't always occur consistently.

Never even dl'd it.

I might be interested in Sunset Riders, but it doesn't look like they're going to support it anymore.

It's mostly for people 40+ with all the Retardi games.

I heard about sunset riders and I'm interested in that, depending on the price. Are all the games $3 or less? That seems like such a weird title for GR since almost everything else is Atari-era and that is early 90s. I would be far more interested in it if there were more newer, or even NES-era releases.

Despite Krome closing a couple of months ago, Microsoft still has the rights to Game Room and could potentially continue releasing new packs (after all, new content production for Game Room is really just emulating old games and having the rights to do so).

When Game Room first launched in March, Microsoft claimed they would release 1000 retro titles for it over the first three years. I'm hoping that we're seeing the first waves of titles to break the Atari/Intellivision rut.

All games are 240 MSP as far as I can tell. Although that's a little steep for Pitfall or Breakout IMO, I will gladly keep dropping $3 on titles like Twinbee and Sunset Riders.

Sunset Riders should have been a XBLA release with online co-op. I loved that game and wouldn't mind getting some 4 player co-op.

Yeah, I definitely agree. But, I'm probably happier paying $3 for no online co-op than $10 with online co-op. Wait, do all game room games not have online multiplayer?

I love the concept of the Game Room but everything is so dated. I've been sorely disappointed since it's debut. Sunset Riders sounds like a step in the right direction.

I haven't gone into Game Room in a long time. I bought like 3 games and played them a bunch to get some medals. I then decided to check out Game Room on my PC. Well, doing this wiped out all progress I'd spent on the 3 games I had played. The progress was even gone on my Xbox 360. There was a thread on this on the xbox.com forums. I haven't gone into Game Room since.
I was really tempted to download Jackal.
The only downside is no online co-op. I've definitely gotten my $3 worth out of it.

A few more games from pack 12 are available as of this morning: Detana!! Twinbee, Pooyan, and Thwocker. Was really hoping for Sunset Riders, but I guess that's for next week. Detana!! Twinbee is dope though, and currently the newest arcade title available in Game Room (1991).

I hate how these games come in packs instead of just becoming available in Game Room. I don't know what's in what pack and I'm not sure I care to try to figure it out. I am interested in Detana!! Twinbee a bit, though. I don't even know what Sunset Riders is. Oh, and I'm 40+. ;)

Yeah the delivery definitely sucks, you don't know what games are on each pack unless you download it or look it up on the internet.
I don't even know what Sunset Riders is. Oh, and I'm 40+. ;)
To sum it up best a 4-Player Contra style shooter set in the Wild West.
Its weird how pack 12 is being released in pieces as opposed to pack 13.
They've always done it that way. Big packs come out, but the games are unlocked in the store gradually. It's lame but I guess it keeps people coming back to Game Room.

crunc: Definitely grab Twinbee. I'm not a huge vertical shooter fan (I liked Raiden back in the day), but this game has me hooked. It's very fun, challenging, and relaxing in its non-serious tone.

I'd prefer if the game room has more late 80's-90's arcade titles and not just old console ones. I have a coleco and the rest I can play on my PC through emulators. I'd actually say giving Gold members every month X number of credits so they can play games as more incentive for silvers to upgrade and gold to stay gold.

I haven't touched this since I first downloaded it in March, but I think I'll definitely pick up Detana!! Twinbee tonight.

I love game room, simply to have my own arcade and enjoy some titles from the past. I have about 25 games, off the top of my head

Asteroids Deluxe
Bladesof Steel
Breakout Deluxe
Centipede
Combat
Crystal Castles
Finalizer
Football
Gravitar
Jackal
Jailbreak

Millipede
Missile Command
Outlaws
Red Baron
Road Racer
Shaolin Road
Tempest
Tower of Doom
Tutenkameh
Yar's Revenge

it is a nice break from the current gen stuff and fun to see the simple yet complex game play if my Kid years. I would love more current stuff like Rampage, NARC, Paperboy, and a few others. They are working in newer stuff and getting into a sweeter spot that will attract more users.

If anyone wants to add me up and check out the arcade and play some stuff, hit me up or send some challenges

Cool man I'll add you. Definitely try out Detana Twinbee!

Bummer this morning--no Sunset Riders. Here's what unlocked from pack 12:

Food Fight (Atari, '83)
Warlords (2600 version) (Atari, '81)
Spiker! Volleyball (Intellivision, '89)
Missing In Action (Konami, '89)

twinbee is fun, gonna pick it up this week and add it into the arcade... wonder if they are gonna offer any expansion room, i am running out of cabinet space :)

Oh... the arcade version of Warlords was already out. I'm not sure why anyone would want the 2600 version instead. I played the arcade version several days ago.

Glad you dig Twinbee. Expect a challenge soon
I loved Food Fight on my 7800, will have to give the Game Room's arcade version a try.
As an avid BurgerTime fan I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of Food Fight before. The arcade version is awesome, total impulse buy here. The arcade cabinet itself looks amazing.

Really enjoying Twinbee too. I'm also in the camp that wishes they would do a little more modern stuff. I have added a few of the older favorites but most of what I have been putting in my arcade is the late 80s stuff. It would be nice to see some early 90s stuff in there as well.

Well, it seems Pack 13 has released in its entirety and I've got to say it's a major disappointment. Most of its games are for the 2600 and Intellivision, including the infamous non-game Venetian Blinds. Giant Bomb's quick look is worth watching: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-game-room-for-122210/17-3634/

Sunset Riders is still nowhere to be found, despite many saying that it's definitely in Pack 12's code. Many on other forums are guessing Konami bailed SR out of Game Room after Krome went under, opting instead to release a full XBLA treatment when the hype over SR spread like wildfire. My fingers are crossed as that game REALLY begs for online co-op.

Here's the game list from Pack 13 so far:

Codebreaker (2600)
Desert Falcon (2600)
Devistators (Arcade)
Football (2600)
Iron Horse (Arcade)
RealSports Baseball (2600)
Slam Dunk Basketball (Intellivision)
Star Ship (2600)
Surround (2600)
Tennis (Intellivision)
The Main Event (Arcade)
Venetian Blinds (2600)

Sunset Riders was the one game that would have got me to DL game room again. *sigh* It did always seem ridiculously out of place considering the rest of the games.

Never knew Desert Falcon had a 2600 release. Like Food Fight, I spent a lot of time with the 7800 version, which sounds the same but looks a hell of a lot better. The Atari Flashback version looks like the 7800 version, but has a lot of sprite flicker that isn't in the Youtube videos (though Youtube may be showing emulators that correct the flicker).

Has Microsoft ever had a Game Room sale?

Devastators is like a 3D Contra. I always thought they should have had Contra in the title. It's also very similar to the arcade GI Joe game. Glad it's finally playable on a home console!

Got some good news: http://www.justpushstart.com/2011/01/07/microsoft-still-investing-in-game-room/

An Xbox spokesman has suggested there will be continuing support for the service despite recent setbacks. Speaking to Kotaku, David Dennis claimed the company was “still investing in Game Room for sure”.

The future of Microsoft’s virtual arcade has been in question of late- developers Krome went under in late 2010 and title updates were delayed with no explanation. The service has also been criticized for failing to secure enough quality titles.

Despite the problems, the company intends to launch Game Room for the Windows 7 Phone later this year, and apparently remain willing to continuing to support the 360 version.

Also, here's a video from Kotaku featuring Game Room on the Windows 7 Phone:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-vQBl8WwFM

I've also updated the OP quite a bit to serve as a resource. Let me know what y'all think.

I haven't touched game room since it first came out. I am downloading it again to give it a whirl right now. All the games that I am interested in I have access to on XBLA. I was expecting more of a playstationhome type thing with. The one thing I did love was that whatever machines where in an area you heard those actual machine sounds. I love the retro titles they have on there, as they are focusing on the golden age of the arcade, but I really would like to see some machines from the 90's.

The whole gameroom idea was good, but it still needs a lot of work and features to make it worth something.

I wonder what the pricing will be like. Will buying a game for Windows also count toward the phone, or is that another 240 points (with ~600 to unlock 360 / Windows / phone)?

I know they originally announced you'd have to pay extra to access Game Room games on both PC and Xbox 360, but they apparently canned that idea. I only paid 240 for each of my games and they work on both platforms.

Instead of the whole Game Room library coming to WP7 at once, games will see individual releases. Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede, and Shao-Lin's Road have been announced so far. They should be only $2.99, but I'm hoping they'll be free if you already bought them in the Game Room 360/PC application.

Another Wednesday's passed with no new games or packs, and no more news as far as I can tell about Game Room. I had really hoped the Activision XBLA sale would include some price drops on their GR titles, but no luck.

I know it's a crazy idea, but I would like them to release Game Room on the iPhone. This might not be as far fetched a possibility as it first seems since Microsoft just released their first iPhone app: OneNote. Ok, still pretty far fetched, but I'd sure like it and it would definitely get me a lot more interested in Game Room on the 360.

As suspected, I'm not seeing any new packs or titles this morning. Game Room on iPhone would be awesome, but as they're clearly pushing it as a big selling point of the Windows Phone 7, it's doubtful as you say.
