Gameboy Advance or Gameboy Advance SP?

CAGiversary!
Seems like its been a few weeks since I've done a new topic, so here's a good one.

What version of the GBA do you like more? The original or the SP?

Pick favorite now!

I personally love the SP. Can't live without the backlight or rechargable battery.

SP. it makes a world of difference, and all it does is piss me off they didnt release it first (i understand all the things that go with releasing it before they did...but i dont care)

I recently switched from the original to the SP. I had no problem with the form factor of the original (my portable systems always stay at home anyway, unless I am going on a trip), and I had bought a rechargeable battery pack shortly after buying the gameboy, so that was no problem. I am currently playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, and I love it, but it would be almost unplayable without the light (it isn't a backlight, though, btw).

At the risk of sounding shallow, one of the reasons I love my SP is because it's so damn cool looking!!! 8)

Not to get off topic but is the DS going to be backlit? I really want a handheld with a backlit screen. Maybe I am getting old but the first GBA was nearly impossible for me to see.

Is this a rhetorical poll question? I had a GBA for almost a year and hardly ever played it because i couldn't see anything. unless it was broad unobstructed daylight, my $70 SNES was useless. There's nothing more annoying then having to constantly adjust your viewing angle to get the best reflection when trying to shoot a giant spider.

Luckily I recieved a platinum SP for Xmas from my beautiful wife, then traded in that piece of crap for an SP at EB games. Now my son and I can waste copious amounts of time together while he beats me in a linked game of Drome Racers.

Just think of how many GBAs they could have sold had they been lit properly in the first place.

GBA Sp without a doubt is the best and coolest looking portable gaming system right now. Backlit is great and the battery is just amazing, why it took Nintendo solong to release a system like this ?

The SP there is no doubt about it...I want to buy some more now...why...cause I want to!

To answer the DS question, yes it is said to have a backlight...but then again many other things have been said. Nintendo knows if the next portable systems they make are not backlight, that it will be taking some steps back and not moving forward at all.

It took them a while to do it, because how long the battery would last was an issue at first, and of course they wouldn't have made all that extra money that the regular GBA made.

I give love to my SP, it fits PERFECTLY in my velcro pocket (so it doesn't fall out). And I really can't live without the backlight (one of the reasons I sold my first GBA long ago)
It's not backlit. It's sidewashed, just like the afterburner light.
That's exactly what I was going to say!

Which leads me to my preference: OG-GBA (with modifications)

Yes, the original was not perfect. But when Nintendo released the SP, they left behind what the OG had going for it. You gained a light and a "screen cover" but lost the form factor. Those of us with larger hands really suffer from hand cramps... Two steps forward, one step back.

That's why I have an afterburner and the official GBA screen cover from Nintendo (available for a few bucks on the Nintendo website.) Better lighting (on a glacier GBA) and the same screen protection.

Oh, and apparently it's easier to use an E-reader on the OG-GBA. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9005

I like my original GBA.. I just use a trap light that cost me an entire $3.88 at Best Buy. The SP light seemed a little too.. blue for me, on the display units at all the stores. My trap light brings out all the colors beautifully.

I have a GBA, SP, and a GBP and the SP is really the way to play.

I went through so many batteries and lights with the original that it was crazy

$208 a year for bateries, thats all I have to say.

After doing the math my dad immediately bought me an SP and said he wasn't going to buy batteries anymore.

That SP backlight is so damn bright that I use it to navigate my messy room at night. I've never seen an Afterburner equipped GBA so I wonder how bright that is.

I don't have big manly hands though but the SP is still uncomfortable for me. However, I bought this Gamester 3 in 1 selector thing that allows you to store 3 games and also doubles as hand grips. I never take the thing off my SP its so comfortable. Its not as wide as the original SP but its definitely an improvement.

Yeah I too have small hands and STILL find the SP uncomfortable. I prefer the GBA modded with an afterburner and dimmer switch. It just sucks that it still costs like $45 to get it installed! For that reason alone I refused to add more $$ to it and just bought the SP.

The original is the better one. The original is 60 and sp is 100. I dont actually like the feel of the sp, I like the original the best

i like the original because it fits my hands better but i own an SP...i want to get rid of it though because i cant play it very much with the crappy shoulder buttons.

I still have my old GBA and have no idea what to do with it... how much can I get cash wise if I trade it in to any of the used games stores?

^ The player is the greatest thing ever. However, I have very small fat hands so the SP is a perfect solution for me.

I say orginal GBA + professional backlight installed (like from YourHappyPlace.com) works best...it has a better backlight (you can actually change brightness) than the SP, and personally feels better holding.

The SP. The folding is cool, and who dosn't love the backlight? Throw in the awesome battery, and you got a badass system 8)

I must say I love my SP. It's conveniently sized and ultra-cool looking. I have large hands, but I've never had any problems with the way the SP's size or layout.
