After reading another post I became curious about how many people actually own the current Gameboy iteration and which model they have. Also, tell me which you prefer to use if you have more than one.

I have a platinum GBA Sp for my morning commute, and the Gameboy Player for playing the games at home.
Where's the GBC option?
I wanted to limit the poll to the Advance iteration since there are so many flavors of the GB...

I have all three.

Both my GBAs are imports, I bought the advance (white) because it seemed like the logical place to jump from the GBC and got it as an import because the price I bought it for would have been the same as it retailed for the first week domestic, but after a couple of months I knew it'd be a pain to play without a light an looked into an afterburner lighting solution But the difficuty in installing it stopped me cold untill I could find a relauable installer.

After a couple moer months of wrestling with the decision I was about to buy one and had it sent to Portablemonopoly to have it installed when I saw the up coming GBA sp on the local fox evening news(apparently nintendo sent reps around to give exclusive showings to some news organizations). I cursed nintendo for knowing EXACTLY how to get more money out of me then went about looking into the release date. Unfortunatly since I couldnt get a black one domestically I decided to cough up th emoney to have the import black a month before the domestic one even came out.

The GBP was simply a logic purchase because there are games that are just too damnhard to play on a hand held system. :p

(as a side note I may still get an aafterburner installed in my old GBA just so i have a playable backup.)

I must admit Alpha2, I like my afterburner kit much better than the light on the GBA SP. I installed the kit myself and opted not to use the dimmer switch. It took me about 5 hours to install. This includes the time it took for me to run to my buddy's house and borrow his dremel. (I quickly realized my exacto knife wasn't adequate for the job.) Thankfully, the installation went well and my GBA is extremely bright. Even more so when compared to the SP! It looks cooler at night since I have the Glacier Blue model. The only downside is the potential for dust to get into the screen during installation. But from what I've seen on these boards, that is a chronic problem on the SP anyway. :D

GBP is Game Boy Pocket, right? Pocket is pre-Advance, isn't it?

I still wouldnt try to install the complete AB pacakge myself, I recently saw an AB package on one of the importer sites that has a preplacement front for the GBA that was made to accomodate the light easier so there's less work... I want to read the instructions first to see just how easy it is though.

Unfortunatly they didn't have a white front but they did have a black and I guess I can stand to have that match my SP and cube.

Sorry about the confusion. GBP means Gameboy Player, not Gameboy Pocket.

Heck, if they have a pre-altered face plate for the afterburner kit then that solves most of the trouble. I spent most of my time grinding away plastic in order to accomodate the afterburner light plate. Now all you have to worry about is sodering two wires. That is if you leave out the dimmer switch like I did.

It really is quite easy. I had never soldered before this and I tell ya I made out ok. There was one solder point that took a few tries because it was really small but otherwise the install was a cinch!

I'd scan the instructions for ya if I still had them so you could see for yourself. I encourage you to give it a shot, whether you choose the full alteration method or the pre-provided face plate. Either way, you can't beat the satisfaction you'll get when you first power up the kit and see that screen light up. I certainly love my GBA more now. Maybe that is a male bonding thing...

As a side note, if you do decid to work on it yourself, remember this important piece of advice. The power light on the GBA is actually a tiny piece of plastic that enhances the green and red power LED's on the board itself. Be VERY careful not to lose this piece. A friend of mine warned me of how easy this piece is to lose. Needless to say, I lost mine. #-o It's not really a big deal as the light still works. It's just that you have to look through the tiny hole in the chassis to see it (unless you have a see through GBA like I do).

Sorry for the long rant...

i have 2 GBA's, one purple and one white, i love them to death and i think they are a great invetion and i keep one in my car for when i travel and one at home for regular play. i want to get a player so i can play the origial mario on my cueb and 27 inch tv compared to the 4 inch one, even though the 4 inch one is awesome as well!!!

thanks,

hM

Imported Black Sp...I was special for a while... :) Actually it was fun to show customers how the SP worked with a working model, and then slip in the "not available in black" bit :)

I have a platinum GBA SP and recently I found my original Game Boy with the Game Boy Camera in it....I used to love that thing. Got it for $15 a few years back.
