I have yet to see a game trade in place not take a "not for resale" or game that has something with the barcode. They sell them just the same.
well I got this game free from some website for winning a contest, so they punched a hole in the barcode so u dont resell it, and I really don't want it so I thought I'd see if gamecrazy would take it. well tomorrow Ill try and trade it in
we just had a memo on this, actually. if someone brings a game like this in, we write down the member number and send it to our corporate offices, who then crosscheck the name with sony and microsoft retail sites in an effort to prevent people from getting games free and trading them in.
The reason for the code-punching to prevent retail resale- like winning the game, then returning it to Wal-Mart for store credit. Or buying a bunch of games clearance and selling them for full price at Target.
Once you get into the secondhand market (which is what Gamestop/Gamecrazy's used sections count as), no one really cares anymore. Hell, for all they know, you have an insane mom who destroys the barcodes on every game she buys you becuase she thinks you'll return them for money to spend on crack.
