I'm looking at buying some black label GameCube games off eBay, but I'm not sure what authentic GameCube y-folds and everything look like, so I can't tell if the games are actually new or if they're just resold. Can anyone give a quick explanation of what the packaging on factory sealed GameCube games is like? If it helps, I generally know what PS2 and PS3 factory sealed games are like (y-fold on both corners on the top and bottom).

It's the exactly the same for GC games as it is PS2/XB games. But no GC game ever came with any sort of security seal like all XB and early PS2 games.

It depends on the game, some come factory sealed with the heat type shrinkwrap, even the same game can be factory sealed with heatwrap and another one can have the folded thicker shrinkwrap. At Best Buy years ago I saw 2 copies of LOTR 3rd Age. One had heatwrap with the EA logo actually on the heatwrap so it was factory sealed, another copy had the thicker y fold type wrap also with the EA logo on the bottom

Oh man...That makes it complicated.

sigh...Maybe I should just take a gamble, buy the game, and use my own eye to judge.

EDIT: Oh, by the way, is Nintendo consistent with their GCN games (ignoring third-party publishers for now)?

Now that you mention it, I think I have seen EA do that before but I think EA is the only company that does that kind of stuff. I've bought over 50 brand new GC games and not one of them were shrinkwrapped- they all had the y-fold (cellophane or whatever). I have 3 EA games (the Def Jams, and TimeSplitters 3) and none of those had any special EA stickers on them or anything though.:whistle2:k

I have pretty much every Nintendo game for the GC and all of them were y-fold sealed using cellophane.

usually the final production of the game will end up with the seam-seal since it probably cost them cheaper. these publishers will do whatever they can to save money. luckily there was only a few gamecube games that saw this type of trend. i remember bomberman jetters as one. just make sure you look closely at the picture or just simply ask the seller if it was the one you want.

Sometimes though, and I think it depends on the store these games were bought from originally, you may find a game or three with a 'security device enclosed' sticker over one of the sides or the top or bottom of the case(s).

Although, those are pretty rare compared with most stores tactic of using external security strips(those little raised black or white things with the metal strip inside it).
