GameFly - Improving in one way, failing at another?

I remember when GameFly barely came out. It was awesome. Any game you threw on the queue came at you in order. Shipping was fast, games were in great condition and the used prices were very attractive.

With the introduction and implementation of BrightSpot, it just makes things better. $10 off a month? $12.75 a month for 2 out? Yes please.

But lately, their game availability has been way way less than stellar.

I got Halo 3 from them, which I was thankful for as the game ended up being boring really fast for me, but beyond that? I am honestly not impressed.

My friend was right - If you have a game #1 and a free spot when it launches, you WILL get that game. But that's ONLY if you have the free spot and the game hasn't came out yet. The idea is, send a game back a day or two before your desired game releases and bam, you get it.

My problem is, anything other than that, you have to either throw games in your queue that are a year old or you have to have nothing BUT the hard to get games, because GameFly sends you ALL the games that are available now and makes absolutely NO effort to send you the games at the top of your list.

I had, in this order, the following games:
#1 Eternal Sonata
#2 Blue Dragon
#3 Bioshock
#4 Project Gotham Racing 4
#5 .skate
#6 Medal of Honor: Airborne

And then I had-
#7 Heavenly Sword
#8 LAIR
#9 The Darkness 360
#10 Colin Mcrae DiRT 360
#11 Forza Motorsport 2
#12 Lost Planet

Now obviously I put the games at the bottom of the list, because I was TOLD when I was signing up, that games on top would be sent at higher priority and games at the bottom would be least prioritized. So after I send back Stranglehold and Graw 2, (which I only got Stranglehold because I pulled the "in the Q before launch" trick) they sent me Halo 3 and The Darkness. Halo 3, I had to pull the "in Q before launch" to get, as said earlier. But what the hell at The Darkness? I mean, I was happy to get it, it's a fun game and I wanted to play it and get some achievements... But how do you jump to #10 from a list of 13? (The list was 13 because of Halo 3, and at that time Darkness was #10 on the list) The sad thing is, not ONE of those titles was very low or low availability. They were ALL medium. If 50-75% is the chance of a medium game making "same day" delivery, then I really can't help but think they only look for about 3 minutes to find it, and just say, "Screw it, send him a game at the bottom of the list".

Now, I had evil intentions of holding onto Halo 3 for months on end, because I thought, if those snobby people with GameFly are going to hold onto games like Eternal Sonata or Blue Dragon for months, why should I send Halo 3 back so one of them can get their claws on it and hold onto it for months?

But finally I conceded, and sent back Halo 3, and The Darkness the next day.

What happens? I get an email. "We just shipped Lost Planet!" Wow, thanks! And you're so enthusiastic about it too! I seriously wonder why I signed up for this service. Now before you say, "Well if you didn't want to play Lost Planet, why add it to your queue?" It's not so much that I don't WANT to play it, as I want to play it after I play other games. And if I have to resort to using Blockbuster or Hollywood Video to play games when they're new, what's the point of having GameFly to begin with?

Tonight I had to butcher my entire list. Now my game queue just has Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata and Orange Box for when it releases. In fact, I'm going to do nothing but keep high profile/new games in my Q. If they can't send me Blue Dragon or Eternal Sonata, I guess I'll hold onto the new games that come out for weeks on end so people get pissed about not getting them.

I have to agree. I got my #2 game to start, which is fine, but then I put a bunch of old 360 titles with high availability up next. They just sent me my #6 game, I was actually shocked, esp when the other games on my list are not in high demand right now.

I stuck with Gamefly for about 5 months back in 2005-06 before giving up. In my case, I was living in North Carolina and it was taking forever for games to get to me. It's a pretty great idea but the implementation leaves something to be desired.

I've had similair frustrations with gamefly. Its pretty much impossible to play a new release. The last 3-4 games I've been sent have been from the bottom of the list. I actually sent them an email asking why this happens. Their response: "Based on the feedback from customers, they prefer getting a game faster than waiting for something at the top of the queue."

You should've told them, "Is your feedback system working? Because that response is fail."

simple thing is DONT ADD ANYTHING TO YOUR LIST YOU DONT WANT

MY Q right now is empty besides FFT FOR THE PSP

you have to have an open spot the same day the game comes out or your going to be waiting a while to get it.

this is why I fall to 1 at a time at the end of the month Wait for games i really want to play and then STart to upgrade my account in the middle of the month

Last month in sept it was like

Sept 1 1 game at a time
Sept 15 moved to 2 games at a time (since there was a new release i wan
Sept 22 Moved to 4 games at a time --- 2 get 2 new releases
Sept 25 Moved to 1 game at a time

and made sure that i shipped everything back on the First of oct since you have 10 days to get all yoru games back .

I will do the same thing in NOV (there is almost nothing i want in oct)

How does that work billing wise?

Funny you mention Sonata & Blue Dragon, as I've been holding on to them since release and never so much as put the discs in my 360  I just sent them both back on friday, so you might have a decent shot at getting them soon.

I just wish Gamefly would have a way were I can hold a spot for a game, whether coming out, or just in low supply. It gets a bit tiring to keep nuking my Q list every time I want a new game.

they charge you for the remaning of the month.

so say like you have 10 days left is like they charge 2.50 for every upgrade

so if you got 10 days til your billing and you upgrade to 3 from 1 they will charge like 5 bucks

This has only happened to me once, where instead of sending out the game that was #1 on my list, they sent out a game that was maybe around #6'ish (then again, most of my games were un-released, hence the sixth place being one of the first to send out).

However, it's not really their fault. They say wether or not they are low or not on copies, and they check with all the other games in your Q as-well. From what I've gathered, whichever game has the highest availability, and is the "highest" on your list for being available, is most likely the game that you are going to get.

So, if you want an easy fix, try putting just the two games in your Q that you want. That way, they wouldn't send out a game that you categorize as a lower-priority game, and would only be able to send out the two games you want the most to you.

See I almost have my GameQ to the max, but I do that because there is a LOT of games I want to try out. And the only thing that bugs me is when they change the release date of a game at the last minute.

I mean I remember with Stranglehold that they bumped up the date and I got screwed out of getting it because they hadn't received the game I sent back days prior.

I think the only logic is that they have more copies of new releases available so there will be less waiting times.

And I actually prefer games being sent out faster. I mean hell I'm paying a decent amount of money a month to play games through them, so I want as much use out of it as I can. After all, if I wanted to play a game that bad then I would just go out a buy the damn thing.

well Zelda shipped out last thursday and still dont have it.

i sent digimon dawn back and it took 2 weeks

seems they are starting to throtle people once gain

I thought I'd give Gamerang a try, but after more than a week I'm still waiting for my first game.

It's only got to travel from New Jersey to Philly.

Agreed. I'd like to be able to flag a game as what I want to be sent out next.

yea, I think we need a new thread called CAG's Unite to change Gamefly Policys!

I have called, emailed complained in every way about this specifically. Every time they send me some game instead of a game I really want I send it back and complain, yet they say this is unfair and other users wouldn't like this. I completely disagree with this and think CAG's should take a stand!

Demand a reserve and wait queue, where you can put game on that you really want thus holding them from sending you a game you aren't ready yet.

i'm kinda new to gamefly but halo 3 and bioshock listed as low availability when I qued i got them both pretty soon right after they released, shipping was a tad bit slow though, I did load my que up with eternal sonata blue dragon and that john woo game, they didnt send me the highest available game they sent me the game highest in my que, maybe i was just lucky or maybe they only do that for new customers?
