50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Fireteam Bravo 2 was on clearence at one of my GRs.

The manager also confirmed for me that all of XB and GC had to go, but they were keeping some greatest hits for the ps2 otherwise they all went also. She said that the company is only concerned with the new systems now.

The first Gamerush I went to had them marked $19.99 new for the 360. not sure if that was a mistake, but at 50% that's $9.99

The second one I went to had it marked at $49.99, but they had lots of games still with old prices or mismarks. for instance Castlevania CoD for the Xbox was priced at $14.99, but it rang up at $19.99, $9.99 after the discount, so they gave me another $2.50 discount to compensate.

I will go back to the first store and see if they are still there, and pick them up. I already have teh game so I passed.

Hmm I'd definitely pick up a 360 Just Cause for $10. Anyone want to try it and see if it 'total's at 9.99?
 
Hit two stores today and harvested the following (prices before discount):

So yes, the clearance applies to the new price point of XBLA Unplugged - it rings up as $19.99 and applies a coupon for $10.

And according to a price check, GUN 360 does not end in 98. I didn't try to take it further, as they have at least three copies for when it eventually does clearance out.

I picked up a couple copies of Champions: Return To Arms for 15.00 each and Eyetoy Play 2 w/ Camera for 7.50.

:) Passed on Bully for 20.00 and Sonic Rivals for 20.00, although I wanted them, but I have too much to play as it is.

Yeah, that's why I'm posting here for it. It's up to Shipwreck. GR deals don't come around that often so it has always worked in the past just to deal with stuff in this thread (after all, there isn't anything going on at GR EXCEPT for this sale, so it's not like other important info is getting buried ;)).

I've always hated Gamerush, a lot, but I'll be kind of sad when they decide to close up shop... it means no more 50% off clearances as they try to get rid of tons of stuff just hanging out around :rofl:

Too bad they don't have much new stock to do this with again, I would have loved to get some of this years games (like Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters) for $20. Did GR ever get this game in?

I didn't get a lot of games at all, only two, but Loco Roco and Metal Gear Solid PO were well worth it.

I hope everyone who has credit left is burning it now ;)
 
Someone earlier in the thread mentionoed Kameo being $15 after discount, but I checked a couple stores in my area and none of them have it on clearance. It looks like a YMMV situation, I guess.

I spent all mine last night, almost exactly. I was 55 cents short of the total, and only had 35 cents in my pocket. The guy working floated me the 20 cents instead of having me run the 55 cents on a credit card.

Kameo was not discounted at my GR either. Also someone mention all GBA games were 50% off... Can anyone confirm it?

Grandia III is $10 ??? Time to return my 16.98 copy to CC.

Awww, there were no Suikoden V's at my GR even though they had two display boxes :( I saw it used for $30 at Gamestop...but I just couldn't get myself to buy it.. Oh well, maybe some other time.

I have a question about these discounts. Are the discounts from previous weeks valid in the later weeks? Or do they only apply during that week?
 
Picked up Mario Party 7 ($25) and Doom 3 ($10) at the GR in Midwest City, OK. They had a pretty good selection of the clearance games, but I didn't really have any more money to spend. I saw the following:

Just Cause is supposed to be $25 after 50% and that is how it will ring up. However, the one in Troy, MI was dumb enough to put a $19.99 tag and a orange half-off tag on their only copy of the game, so they had to sell it for $10. The employee there closely inspected the tag because they thought it had been switched. Of course, it had not, just a mismark by some dumb employee as usual. They also insisted that Final Fantasy V was not half off because it did not have an orange tag, but the computer said differently. So, I guess at least two blockbusters in Michigan have marked this game at $19.99.
If anyone in Metro Detroit wants to go to a good blockbuster/gamerush that knows what they are doing, then I cannot recommend the one in Shelby Township on 24 and Hayes enough. I have never had problems there.

The Blue Springs, MO 7Hwy/40Hwy GR had a pretty good collection of games on clearance right as you walked in. Plenty to choose from, but I picked up the last copy of the game I was really wanting: MGS: Portable Ops for $20.

I may go back up in a few hours to get Me and My Katamari for $10.

It's just as well, really, as I'm running low on credit and would be scrounging for every last trade-in I could find so as not to actually spend cash at GR (as few of these prices are cash-worthy to me ;)).

My dad bought Tomb Raider: Legend for me today because he happened to be by a GR after work today and it wasnt 15 bucks but 25 instead and it was the damn display case with the sticker that says "display only" right on the box, plus when I opened the already opened case there wasn't any instructions in it. WTF!!!!! I'm taking this bitch back pronto.

Priceless. I just went into gamerush yesterday and asked if they had LOTR:BFME2 for the 360 new and the guys says, yeah, it says we have 1 in stock. He proceeds to walk over and open the used case and pulls 1 out of which they had 3. I ask him, is that new? He says yeah. So I humor him, walk over to the register where he takes it out of the plastic overlay case and opens the game. Um.... guess it isn't new? :roll:

Then he walks back over and puts it back and asked somebody where the new games are. I was in a rush so I just tell him, check the drawer. Huh? I never knew they were in there. Unbelieveable. Gotta love Gamerush and their employees.
 
Yeah, that's almost as bad as the time I bought a Shrek Super Party from a GR in GA when I was visiting only to find out, once I had gotten home, that it was a shrink-wrapped display case with NOTHING in it. Some dumbass had price tagged it and put it out on the floor for sale. I am usually pretty careful about checking the "rattle" but was rushing around to various GR on my one free night there and just forgot to check it. Fortunately my local Blockbuster refunded me the cost (though they forgot the tax). They called the store in GA (to see if they actually had a real one for me) and were pretty much blown off. Nice.

galvatron2k1 - I've heard of this drawer thing occasionally. My (now closed) GR was good about this at least - all new games were out on the floor, nothing hidden. I'll have to remember that, though, if I ever travel to an area with a GR store again and I'm looking for something specific.
