50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Is $30 for Zelda TP really that great of a price? Won't it be like $20 to $30 everywhere in a couple months (or sooner)? Then you could use the $5 off at Best Buy to bring it down even further.

Agreed! Of course, like io, I now have several 360 games and no 360. I guess that I'll have no choice but to buy one now. ;)

I might hit up another GR to see if I can snag N3... I might even get EA Replay if I see it, for $10 it's hard to refuse. I don't really see anything else I want to pull the trigger on at just this moment, though, either that or the stuff that's a great price like Dead Rising I own :lol:

If I remember correctly, the Enterprise location had 3 copies of N3, but that's kind of a drive, of course. I'd call first.

Nah, it's not too far... I definitely appreciate the heads up. The 49th Street location is pretty much empty, all I found was one Loco Roco on the shelves. 9th Street had some ok stuff, I grabbed the only Fatal Frame 3. 9th Street had tons of 360 games though.

I didn't bother going to 34th Street South yet... did you go? If it's not worth the drive I'll just pass.

It seems GR, at least at 49th Street, just ran out of stock.

I went to 34th St. S. last night to check in advance, and IIRC all they had for 360 was a copy of Marvel UA, but no N3. They didn't have much else worth noting, though they seem to have a good stock of PSP games.

I just called Enterprise to see if I was correct, and confirmed that they do have 3 copies of N3.

I actually hit every Pinellas GameRush except 34th St. S. today because I was looking for Dead Rising. The only copy I found was at the last one I went to, but at least I got it.

What time did you go? I went at around 1:30 pm to the two I listed and there wasn't a soul in sight other than me and the employees ;)

Sucks that 34th Street S has a shit selection too... no 360 games and none of the high profile games. Well, you saved me a trip at least ;) I guess I'm just glad I got this Fatal Frame 3 along with Loco Roco... I can hopefully snag $30 for FF 3 making my Loco Roco free, and that's all I can really ask for.

I'll probably pass on that N3, since I'd just be paying $15 straight for it with no way of getting any money back, and I'd rather put that $15 towards one of the newer 360 games. Thanks for saving me a trip to 34th Street South ;)
 
I just made a second trip because my sister wanted to check the PS2 games. I picked up the GCN Hulk game (thanks for the opinions, io and msdmoney), and she got Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando.

The only thing I've got to add to the list from this run is that DK King of Swing should be $10 after the discount, though something tells me that one won't excite very many people.

I've been home for spring break this week (home because I need to recover from my classes), and this has been a darn good week for my game collection. Psychonauts from Big Lots, a cheap copy of Tony Hawk Underground from a local computer store, Geist from EB, and Super Mario Sunshine, Viewtiful Joe, and Incredible Hulk from this sale. All of that for $50...I really can't complain. :D

I wouldn't be too sure of that - the Zelda games have taken a long time to drop in the past, though I could see the Cube one being lowered in price eventually as stores try to get rid of their last-gen games.

That said, the game's entirely worth the $30, so I'd just go for it now. :)
 
I hit the GR closest to me in Kansas City Missouri (Antioch Mall). They had two endcaps marked with the 50% off sale. It looked like they may have been in the middle of stickering more games and DVD's in the store because I saw boxes containing rolls of price stickers behind the GR. I also saw the associates behind the rental counter pulling a crapload of DVD's.

They had a bunch of the 360 and PS2 titles listed by Ship above at my store. They might've had some of the PSP games but they weren't in the 50% off area so I didn't look at them too closely.
 
Well I have gamesnflix now so I really won't be buying very many games anymore. But I went and got XBLA Unplugged - the retail is $40 and it is only $15. I will take it to a store that does exchanges and get NBA Street - also have a $20 gift card. Seems to me that it is a pretty good deal.

If someone is looking for a game I can get it for them since mine had every game with multiple copies - but you'd have to pay for shipping and an extra few dollars.

I went right at opening, starting with Gulf-to-Bay. I thought I'd have to get there early, because when the last round of clearance games went to 75% off, all of the good stuff was gone by noon on the first day. As it turns out, I was the first customer at every store. I basically just burned my remaining credit on 360 games - I also picked up some $20 games from regular price drops, like Burnout Revenge and such. I can't believe those games are still hanging around!

I will see if I can get a copy of the complete list of games next time I am at work. Not sure how I will make an excuse for that one, but I will try. The list on the front page looks pretty complete actually. There were not as many games discounted as I expected.

Oh and employees do get their 10% discount on top of the 50% off if there are any other BBV employees on these forums wondering about it.

Noticed 2 games not on list, Prince of Persia WW for Xbox is $5 and Tetris Worlds for the GBA is included, can't remember the price though.
And the Enchanted Arms is for the special edition version with the comic book only.
 
Hit 4 stores on my way home from work in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area. None of the clerks had any clue what I was talking about. Looked around and couldn't find a single new game for sale. Asked them about it and their response was, "uh, we don't sell new games..."

Oh and I forgot to mention it looks like my GR got thier first Wii accessory in. They had one nunchuck in stock (I know not part of the sale but it's the first time I've seen anything besides Wii games for sale). I also noticed that the two $39.99 PS3 controllers finally sold as well.
 
I was able to pick up Lego Star Wars II and Hitman for 360! Yay!

For anyone in the area, the Loveland, Ohio Blockbuster had a decent selection of PS2 games, but were pretty scarce on Xbox and Cube. For 360 they still had copies of Madden 07, NCAA 07, Phantasy Star, Nintey Nine Nights, Just Cause, Arcade Unplugged, and Hitman.

I went to a regular blockbuster. Employee got mad that they were 50% off saying sale was only for endcap. Bought the only 3 360 games they had.

Splinter Cell DA was tagged at 39.99 but rung up as 59.99 and then 1/2 off so came out to 29.99.

Dead Rising and Lego Star Wars 2 came up as 29.99 and 24.99

Not bas for using up store credit.

Grandia III does not appear to be part of the sale. At least it was not at the Mason location. Could be like last time where the sale was somewhat store specific.

I managed to snag two games. Tales of the Abyss which is the one I wanted the most alongside Chibirobo and Harvest Moon. Not bad for $24. I've never played a Harvest Moon before but it shows you can ride a horse on the back. Any game that you can ride a horse in will have my money. If anyone needs a copy of Xenosaga III let me know. One store has 5 or so copies all locked away with no cases on display.

In some cases they simply snag the wrong games and put them on the clearance table and then have to honor the 50% off manually. We saw alot of that last time - people insisted such-and-such a game was on sale when it really wasn't. Plus there's lots of opportunity for mixup as the sheets only contain the first parts of the longer game names. For example, maybe the Ratchet & Clanks are getting mixed up. I KNOW the sheet at my store listed Going Commando though. And Ratchet Deadlocked is short enough that that is probably for sure. But maybe Up Your Arsenal is wrong.

ALSO, realize that you must TOTAL the games on checkout to get the discount. If they simply price check it for you it will appear to be full price. The way to tell, though, is if it now ends in 8 (eg, $19.98 instead of $19.99). Then it will ring up half off after the sale.

Also note that there does not appear to be any sale on used games, and, as usual with these things, the used prices for the sale clearance games have not dropped (though surely the trade-in prices have which kind of sucks) and are now MORE than the new prices. I price checked a few used versions of these games and they were still as high as they were before the sale. The manager at my GR was sure that used games would be part of the sale because all the regular BB's around here were "participating". But that just meant they had 1 or 2 of the games from the list - things like Splinter Cell, possibly R&C GC - mostly just the smattering of GH/PH they get for sale.

OK, so here's my total haul today, from 2 trips to my GR (had to return home to get my other value card :bomb:):

Started the day with $395 in credit on 4-5 cards ;).

Got $25 back in return/repurchase (Enchanted Arms adjusted from $39.99 to $30 and MSG3:Subsistence adjusted from $29.99 to $15), so that meant I had $420 to spend on other games. I ended the day with $44 in credit left on a single value card.

My total haul: 30 games for $376, or $12.50/game. That only comes out to about $5.50/game in real money considering the source of my GR credit.

I will probably use the rest of my credit to get some others for that purpose (so I can continue to preorder games on the cheap at GC now after GR closes). For now, I saved the little bit of credit in case someone wants something to trade for Ratchet Deadlocked or Star Wars Deadly Alliance. I also have plenty of Best Buy and Target clearance games (and other stuff) to trade for - see my trade list if you can get one of these games for me. Also, if you read through my previous posts where I updated new games for the OP, you can see things that I can probably pick up at my GR tomorrow if you ask me soon enough.

I can also generate some more credit with a few games I have sitting around if need be. I really didn't think I'd want to, but with how good this sale was it will be tempting. I'd have to trade them into my local non-GR BB, though. At my GR they couldn't even give me trade-in prices because all of their trade-in values have been reduced to $0 :cry:. Did anyone ever get the current price of Monster Rancher EVO?
 
Man, if I hadn't been spending so much money lately, I'd be able to pick up a bunch of games for people. As it stands, I'm going to have to trade in a bunch of games for Tales of the Abyss and N3.
 
The 7Hwy/40Hwy GR in Blue Springs, MO had an okay selection. They had a stand as soon as you walked into the store, with a few X360 titles, PSP, PS2, and Xbox games. They had Hitman, Just Cause, Lego SWII, Bionicle, and N3, and I picked up Phantasy Star Universe for

****$20**** (It's not priced on OP)

Only thing I was interested in. I might go to the other store to see how much Over G runs. It's a crappy game, but I had a lot of fun with it. I'll pick it up for $15.
 
Figured they would have XenoSaga Ep. III in this sale, since II was part of last year's clearance. A couple stores near me have it, so I guess I'll pick it up, along with Dragon Quest VIII and possibly Capcom CC2.

Too bad about the lack of DS games though, especially since the last clearance had quite a few.

Also, this is directed at io or anyone else: How much was the PS2 Godfather LE? I may also pick that up if it's at a reasonable pricepoint.

Looking through my receipts I realized I was charged twice for Arcade Unplugged :cry:.
He rang me up once as a "test" to see how the clearance worked (to see if the discount happened after hitting 'total'). Then he didn't hand it to me but left it in my pile of other games, then rang it through AGAIN with all the others. Hopefully they will believe me when I deal with it tomorrow!

The damn Torrance store gave me an open copy of Splinter Cell too. No plastic and no seal, plus case has scruff marks! I hope they give me a refund on it...I'm anal like that. I like my games mint. Easier to sell back too.

Anyway, two things I would really like to get Champions Return to Arms and I saw it yesterday at a GR. Does anyone know if it's on sale? It's a good drive for me to go and get a NO.
