50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Do they offer top dollar for recent games, or should I settle for GS?

I want to sell Halo 3 (regular) and Warhawk (w/ bt).

They should at LEAST give you $35 for those I would assume. Not sure how Warhawk works with the Bluetooth.
 
My Blockbuster had an extra 25% off any used "shooter" game, any system. The handwritten sign literally said "shooter." I picked up a minty fresh copy of Earth Defense Force for my 360 for a little over $10, based upon Cheapy's opinion of this game.

I tried to get it on NHL 2K7 and NBA 2K7 since make "shots" in each, but the Blockbuster nerd wasn't having it. They had sports games an extra 25% last week apparently.

I'm sure this is YMMV since all the signage was homemade.
 
Even my little podunk Blockbuster had the 25% off shooters deal. I was ever so slightly tempted to get Gears of War (marked $44.99 I think, then it would be $33.74 after the discount). But I'm pretty sure it was a used rental. They had several copies of Bioshock moved over from the rental side, some of which may have been unplayed (as they had about 8 available to rent and I didn't notice very many checked out the week of release). However, these weren't with the 25% off games. But do they count? Is the 25% off thing automatic, or a coupon code they can apply to anything? It sure seems like Bioshock ought to qualify as a shooter (but then the signage says something like "selected shooters" so maybe not).

I finally got around to taking an extra copy of Ice Age 2 that I got from CC for $11.36. I was hesitant as the credit is pretty useless to me, but I was coming up on 30 days since purchase from CC so I figured if I was going to do it, I better get it done now. Fortunately it still trades in for $26. The clerk had trouble getting the credit on my value card and it ended up posting to the account. She apologized and offered me the $26 in cash to make up for it. Of course, I accepted ;).

Me too, and I "run" the Kmart thread. Though I think that is one of the $22 games, so that's why it isn't a hot topic in the Kmart thread. Unless it is $14 or less it isn't worth the BB flip (to me, anyway).

Nope, I meant Kmart. It's $15 there (or at least 2 of the ones near me).
 
Haven't had a chance to read through the last pages, but in case it hasn't been mentioned, there were some decent price drops on used games on Sunday. A lot of Xbox titles dropped to $2.99 (along with old sports titles on all consoles). Also noticed Xenosaga II dropped to $2.99 used. I actually have 2 copies at my store in case anyone's interested in one. All other price drops were the standard stuff that makes the used game prices still too high.

It's sad GameRush deals are becoming so hit and miss. They used to have awesome trade in promos.

If they did maybe I could finally justify buying that 60 GIG PS3 with my $320 of credit.

I have a bunch of credit right now and plan on burning through it during the holiday season. PS3 really isn't tempting at all, however if they get the Ace Combat 6 w/ hori flightstick I might be tempted. Rock Band might be tempting as well. If nothing else I will use the credit to pick up some gifts...

Anyone see any copies of The Orange Box for 360 at the GRs or BBs? I'll check today, but I've got a feeling that they might overlook it as a HL2 re-hash and not stock the game.

My Gamerush said they were getting in copies, but not until Friday as usual :(. Unless it's something I don't mind waiting a few extra days for or it's street dated (like Halo 3), I've been doing most of my pre-orders at GameCrazy for this reason.
 
I was able to put in a preorder for GHIII yesterday. Hopefully they'll get it in. I asked about Rock Band, but the guy said it wasn't in their system yet.
 
I checked several locations each of Kmart and Sears, but neither chain had Over G Fighters or Cabela's Alaskan Adventure on clearance. That's kind of weird - sometimes a coupe of locations will miss a clearance markdown, but usually at least a couple have it. I'm bummed, I was hoping for more GR credit.
 
For those who were wondering yes they got Orange Box in I stopped by GR yesterday and they had it new on the shelf for sale. I ALMOST bought a DS Lite with my $160 credit but I figure i'll just keep saving it on my giftcard and use it to buy a couple games coming out next month. I preordered CoD4 while I was there and they asked if I was sure I just wanted regular because they were getting CE in also.... :roll:

Thanks for the updated prices Kmart has a few more gems at the one store near me with clearance games. Hopefully they still there for the next price drop.:D

Before you edited your post Shady, the Gamerush store I go to had gotten 3 Wii consoles in when I went to pick up Orange Box and Folklore.

Haha nice i'm still asleep and edited a few times... yea I was hoping to get a Wii but I figure i'll just get games with credit and save the cash to buy a Wii IF I ever find one..... I've seen them in the wild one time since release.

Well, I don't know what everybody's shipment allocation is, but now would be the time to call and ask if they are in stock (Cleveland, OH got 3 in on Friday).

Thanks i'm gonna do that today northern KY has 5 stores plus who knows how many around Cincinnati. Glad to here that they are still getting systems in it gives those building credit a reason to keep flipping. :D

Welcome! Besides, get it now before the holiday rush. After black friday, goodbye Wii until 2008.

On a side note, does anybody know if any stores have gotten the Star Wars or Daxter PSP bundles? I forgot to check. It might be time to build up some more credit if they did.

Didn't get a Wii yesterday.... I drove all the way to the far out GR that told me on the phone they had a Wii and they had nothing but 360s and PS3s... They had gotten one in this week but sold it a few days ago.... Also i'm now out of empty black dvd cases BUT i've got 11 empty Xbox 360 cases BUT best of all i'm at $253 credit for less than half that out of my pocket. I love this website. :D
 
Called and asked about that crappy WarTech: Senko no Ronde for Xbox 360 that is 9.99 new at EB this week. It gets $15 credit...... I gonna grab one when I go past there later and trade it in to GR just to bump my wad up $5 since I going there to trade a few more Kmart finds anyway. It's not that much but it'll be spent as soon as i see a Wii in stock... That'll put me right at $300 credit that i've paid forty six cents on the dollar for. :D

wtf just clicked the link to dvdtalk he looks like a long time although not sure of his credibility... If someone actually let him use that he is so lucky. Ask him for a receipt picture because they'd prolly call the cops if I gave them that coupon.. :D I am going in a little bit I should take it in and ask um if they are honoring it tell um it said select locations or something in the email.

You bastard I called about 6 stores this weekend looking for one and got nothing but a goose chase when they THOUGHT they had one in stock. Wednesday seems to be the magical day that systems arrive at every store and friday for games arriving.

WTF that coupon is actually scanning through the system and giving the discount with no overrides??? I just walked in the door and i'm about to settle in for a bit of Orange Box b4 sleep but damn i'm tempted to go try to rob my store blind. lol

Sorry to post again but what the fuck would you say when you handed them that coupon and a stack of newer release games? The look on their face would make you want to bust out laughing. This is obviously a mistake or fake but i'm just trying to come up with a back story in my head because I full expect to be put under the microscope when they see this..... I usually can spit an answer for anything but this one is a stumper...LOL So yea I just opened my email and there it was. :D
