OTHER INFO

I consider deals confirmed when I receive the MAP on every other Thursday. The Map outlines promos and how the store is to be layed out and includes the barcodes for the deals. Also we get the new trade flyers that day as well with new trade values and deals.

Deals usually end on close of business on Monday and begin on open Tuesday (some special ones do start on Thursday usually around labor day, memorial day, etc.)

They also have coupons in magazines for great deals, so be sure to check EGM, GamePro, and several other magazines.

GameRush is starting to expand, so check the store locator every once in awhile to see if one is coming to an area near you.

All BlockBuster's should now accept trades, so the trade in prices for BB and GR should be similar, but normal BBs will not always have the deals that GameRush has.

GameRush accepts game trades without case and instructions and the games can be in poor condition depending on the employee.

You must have a BB account and sign a trade agreement to trade at GameRush.

Please be careful if you scam GameRush (by flipping games) they do have the abillity to ban you from all GameRush locations if they want to (and as I have done but that was only because I was tired of crap PS1...).

Release dates - Go by the shipping date. 9 times out of 10 it is not what the Blockbuster computer says. The computer date is when traditional stores can expect to receive their rental games.

Game Rush receives games typically on Tuesday and Wednesday of the games release. Only reason EB and Gamestop get them a day before is because they get special shipments or their dm picks the games up and brings back that evening (or they are near distribution centers).

Some games have street dates but this is few and far between (outrun 2, halo 2, star wars episode 3, doom 3 are it in the past 6 months).

OTHER GAMERUSH THREADS

Don't seem to be working anymore...I will put them back up on request(pm) or if they become live again.

And everyone else who has contributed to this thread. Thanks guys! :)

One of my GameRushes (only checked one so far) has been completely cleaned out of new Nintendo games that are eligible :(

BTW, all of the GameRushes in Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas have been told to only accept the 3 games for $5 preowned for one time, one game only. The employee told me that they enacted this because previous deals had been abused too much :(

Well, here's some prices for trade-ins:

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance - $8
Twisted Metal: Black - $3
-Turned that into a preorder for Zelda

Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy - $3
Rayman Arena - $1.50
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - $8
-Bought Resident Evil 4 with the credit
Cory or Stoned99, did any of you ever find the number or email for Blockbuster corporate?

I noticed today that a guy in the flea market, who's generally had very shitty games for sale, is all of a sudden coming up with very recent used games (and sometimes new) games for sale.

The funny thing is, the idiot forgot to take off the Gamerush stickers off of some of his games... one game he's selling for 40 is on sale at GR for 45, so there's no way he's taking a loss on these.

Either he's flipping titles to amass credit and pick up games, or trading in three cheap titles to get new stuff for $5, and then reselling it for $35-40. Is there some kind of no dealer clause in the trade agreement? It kind of sucks that the GR's here are bare, and this guy has all their decent games for 35 - 40 bucks.

What's funny is that every title Cory listed in the Nintendo 50% off sale, he's got multiples of each for sale. I could pretty much go through his booth and find all the items that have been on sale the last few weeks.
I think you're best bet is to notify the gamerush where he is buying his stuff. No need to get corporate involved and ruin the deal for all of us.

Well, I made the trip up to my Blockbuster (Commerce) yesterday, and the store is in pretty rough shape. I guess we're now getting about 500 trades per week, but the majority of those are from flippers. There's 6-8 guys that come in every day and flip. The worst part is that our district leader has left messages on our store's voicemail saying that there's really nothing that can be done about the flippers except don't let them trade in games that they bought earlier that day.

For some reason, my co-workers allow the flippers to do the trade 3, get any used game for $5 deal as many times as they want each day. I checked out a couple trade reports and saw that one guy had done the deal to get six games for $5 on Saturday. This is just ridiculous and blatant abuse of a great deal.
The store manager wasn't in, but I started running a bunch of ideas through co-workers. I think the most effective way to handle this is limit the deal to once per day per customer. As Cory does, I would be willing to let a customer do the deal 2 or 3 times if I knew that they were trustworthy.

My store manager doesn't work again until Tuesday. I'm going to stop at work then and run the idea by him. It seems that right now my co-workers are letting the flippers run rampant and are the taking the "there's really nothing we can about it" approach. A lot of people are glad to see me back, as they're sick of dealing with these pain-in-the-ass customers. I can't wait until I next work to personally enforce new restrictions on those who have been abusing the deal.

Whats the first name of your DM ?

Went and traded some games on saturday

PS2-THUG $5.00
PS2-extreme GIII $1.50
XBX-HALO 2 $16.00
GC-Pikmin $8.00 (i am not sure, i dont have the receipt in front of me)
XBX-outlaw golf 9 more holes xmas title $0.50
GC-Viewtiful Joe $5.00 (i am not sure about this one either)
total credit was around $34 (I felt really bad trading in halo 2 for so little, as well as the other games too, but with the deals, the long run didnt seem so bad.)

got me a used tekken 5 and SW ep3 for XBX (was hoping for a PS2 copy) for $5 each. After I beat these I will trade using the 2 for a preorder deal to get a copy of FFXII for a friend.

drfrielgood - ofcourse they are letting them do it 6 times... there are not any restrictions on the trade - in deal that limits number of times. I don't get how they didn't fix the mistake what so ever from the previous trade-in deal like this one. Perhaps its because there were far fewer abusers last time than now, so it is more prevalent? Because last go around from what I can figure it seems like you had much more potential for profit since they accepted PS1 games then... I suppose that is the only correction they saw fit to correct and assumed that the number of trades wouldn't be as big of a factor if they only accepted new game console games... I think the best thing for them to do would be to limit it to games they would sell for X dollars or would give X (maybe >$3) credit.

corycubed - the scenario you lay out is good for people to use it as a rental policy, but I can only think that most 'flippers' are using it as a profit making scheme, not a trading scheme. If you use your scenario but use $5 games instead you can net (-$10 + $3 - $5 + $30-$35) $18-23 per game and if done in 3s it gets exponentially better as the 4th game is $25-$30 profit as you only paid the $5. Mix that with the Memorial Day promo which I think was an invitation to flippers and proof that they did not discuss this with their GameRush store employees... and you're at B1G1 at that time making the profit even greater. Perhaps the designers of the promos need to do a lot more to work with those below them to find out the real world outcome of the promos prior to putting them out.

To stop too much flipping at the Allen Park store they limit people to the trade 3 for $5 deal to only twice a day.

these deals are to get new customers in the store. Do the people who make the deals realize that there are so many loopholes or do they just not care. If someone has the rules it should say 1 per day for trade transactions, plus they should have a stipulation about 1 deal per trade too. This is all just heresay since I cant look it up at the moment.

It differs from store to store when it comes to deals. Each store has a different policy on what they will let deals go for.

I wonder how much of the big picture these "flippers" make up. Out of a weeks time, what's the percentage of regular trade ins versus flipping? I'm going to guess it wouldn't be that big. Just wondering out loud here guys...My local GR seems happy to see me( I think!) because I bring them good games(maybe because the employees' have first shot at them) and I preorder games( good for their numbers).
drfrielgood - ofcourse they are letting them do it 6 times... there are not any restrictions on the trade - in deal that limits number of times.
At the GR I go to they have a rule on this deal that the games you trade in must be worth $30 total (they were unclear on whether that meant you had to get $30 credit or they had to sell for $30 - I think it was $30 credit) - but I think it stems from a misunderstanding of the deal, not from any attempt to limit flippers. I don't think flipping is so rampant at my GR because there aren't any others within 100's of miles (so no GR-to-GR pipeline available for flippers). In any case, it is certainly up to the store to put in additional restrictions and I simply don't understand why a store that is being continually ripped off by a few people would not put in SOME measures to slow it down at the least, when there are many other stores that have restricted or cancelled the deals entirely.

I have yet to do the $5 deal so limiting it to once per day would be perfectly fine for me. I'd much rather use my trades for the preorder deal anyway, though it would be nice to use it once or twice.

drfrielgood - I'll assume those 6-8 daily flippers are NOT visitors to this site or they would know they are running a HUGE risk of being banned (an aside to stoned99 - it appears from drfrielgood's comments that the banning is not coming from corporate but probably from the district level in your case). Good lord, after reading the banning stories here even I cut back on my trading quite a bit and I never did any flipping to begin with. I've only traded in 2 games in the last 3 weeks... But then again, I'm not doing it for a living like it appears these guys coming to your store are :D, so taking a break is no big deal (still waiting for more games to be added to the preorder system anyway!).

Normal people trade maybe once a week. Flippers trade once a day or every other day at as many stores as they have in there area. I had 4 stores to flip between back when i was doing it religiously. There are a lot more non flippers but those who do it prolly add up to be more money lost by BB.

BTW there is a seperate flipping discussion thread....

Stopped in your place on Saturday while doing some running around and picked up that Hip Gear Wavebird battery thing for .99. I left two more there because I'm not a hog. Oh I saw the sign at the register. Quite funny.

It amazes me some people have the guts to abuse the trade in deal so badly. Guess they don't know about being banned. One time I used the trade 3 get one for $5 to get my brother MCIII. Trade 2 and preoder for $29.99 is my prefered deal.

drfrielgood, Let me know when your going to be working and I'll stop up to see you.

I think the problem is that the risk of being 'banned' from trading isn't that significant considering you can still use the credit from the trading cards. Perhaps limiting trading credit to be on the account as opposed to on value cards would help this significantly. I'm not sure how other stores handle trade-ins however, and in fact was suprised that GameRush is limited to store credit. Do EB / GS / Etc limit to credit? I might change who I deal with even tho its farther if they aren't limited to instore credit since they also get games on release dates (bitter at waiting until Weds or possibly even Friday for GTA:SA)

Its a great idea to limit trades to credit only. If they were giving cash, they would lose more money because people would not be required to pump their new money back into GR. Corporate should set limits to keep the abuse to a minimum. NORMAL people/gamers dont trade every day. Occasionally you may get a game and not like it and want to exchange it or trade it, depending on the situation and its advantages. Of course, its harder to set limits if you are using your account to trade and someone else is using their account (or no account) to buy.

They currently have the buy 2 get 1 sale. You could possibly buy three cheap games to trade in to get a game you really want, for possibly cheaper than just that game. If you do not intend to flip you could get good games using this model. Cost would be about $20-25 per new game (3 x $5, plus additional $5 using trade 3 for 1 used, minus about $2-3 in credit on your trades). This is good if you want to build your collection of good games up for cheaper than buying them (save about $10-15 or more per game).

I did the trade three get a game for $5, and was told that if I ever traded the $5 dollar game back in, I'd ONLY get $5 for it at any Gamerush. Not sure how accurate this is...

Anyways, NEW PRICE DROP! All the NES Classics dropped price to 9.99, so 50% off makes them 4.99. They were originally 14.99 dropped to 7.50 when the sale started, I snagged myself a Zelda 2.

As for trades -

GTA: San Andreas - $18
Auto Modellista - $5
Astro Boy - $8

buy 2 get 1 sale, Man, so it is 2X$5 plus $5 minus 2-3 credit. I think you can get good games at $12-$15.

Commerce? The only reason I go to Commerce is to work the casino at the poker tables.

Stopped up at the store this afternoon. The store manager was working so I talked to him about this deal for a bit. In the most recent prp price changes all $4.99 games went up to either $6.99 or $7.99. So that will cut into the profit margin a bit. I looked at some numbers though and our store has the biggest jump in net revenue, prp sales, and trades of any store in our district since last year. We were the #1 presale store in the district before I left for Japan, now we're the #1 trading store in the district. And we're the second smallest store in the district. So while flipping runs rampant, my manager enjoys the inflated trade numbers. I just hope that the next time Gamerush runs this deal, they somehow limit either the value of the titles that are accepted or the number of times that this deal can be used by each trader.

The manager is all smiles until he learns that they are losing money. He wont be so happy when they have to cut back on hours, but as a manager, he wont really be affected by it since he isnt a peon.

Numbers, in corporate business, are often better to have than actual profit. It makes you look good as a manager. But if you never have good profits, then you'll start to look bad.

I'm fairly convinced my banning was a decision made by the DM and not corporate, I had until very recently left all my credit at the stores I was trading with. I did change my behaviour shortly before my ban to move the credit back on to a value card. The funny thing is I only did that so that I could pay for my xbox 360 when it became available. I was wondering if it was that change in approach that finally ticked off the DM.

Just a question for the GR/BB employees here. My GR never has any good (newly released) games to trade for with the trade 3 get a pre for $5. I was wondering if I took in 4 cheapy games and a good game like GT4 or God of War, traded them all in, then bought my good game back with the trade 3 get pre-played for $5 then used the remaining credit to do a pre-order with the trade 2 get pre-order for $29.99?

I know it sounds a little shady, but is this flipping? Can it be done? I was wanting to get some pre-orders in, but hate to give away my good games.

Please guys don't bash me too hard, I have not done this and will not if it's not allowed.

Traded: PS2

I'd think you'd have to be "in" with an employee to pull that off - I definitely wouldn't try anything like that unless I was told I could by an employee, and I wouldn't ask about it either (in other words, I'd only do it if it was offered out of the blue by an employee, and that ain't gonna happen). Why don't you just take 2 cheapys (I'm assuming you got them somewhere else like Best Buy and not from flipping) and preorder the new game? Why all the trading around? You might have to shell out a bit more out of pocket (but then again you are only buying 2 cheap games and not 4 so maybe not), but it is still a good deal and you won't be risking any suspicion - a couple of extra bucks will save you the hassle, and keep you in good standing for future deals.

I guess this would fall into the sub-category of a "reverse flip", for lack of a better (or already created) term... a risky strategy, given that somebody else, probably a flipper who trolls the CAG boards, will scoop it up before you can buy it back.

Unless you're expecting to buy it back before you even leave the store. In that case, I'd expect even the most lenient employee to say, "No way", before grabbing you by the back of the collar and physically throwing you out. :)

In any case, this definitely is a flip, and I would think you could easily draw attention to yourself.

I've bought the same game back many times, but I always have to wait 1 day, because that's how long it takes them to process the trade before they can resell it. I also wonder why you are so afraid of gamerush. You can't get banned for this.

Question, do you need like a membership for gamerush/blockbuster? How does that work? The last time I was there at blockbuster was at least 5 years ago.

You need a credit card to get a membership and then you need to sign a trade aggrement.

I don't see why you couldn't buy back your own game. I'd have someone else do it for you so it doesn't raise suspicion. Also remember that it usually takes them a while to process the game and get it on the shelf for sale.

Yeah I agree with everything you said. I guess I was just emphasizing the "Cheap Ass" part a little much. Just trying to save a little more green. With the latest deals, the trade-in values for cheapy games went waaay down. I miss the double dip. I just need some extra cash to get some work done to my truck.

What I may do is take my good games in, do the trade 2 get new or pre-order and sell it to you guys here on cag for like $35 shipped. I will probably list something over on the trade forum about this.

Think anyone would be interested?

This cannot be done my Gamerush specifies anytime you use the trade in 3 get one for $5 you must have that preowned game for at least 30 days before trading it in again.

Guys, I read through the last few pages and I didn't see this posted and I hope it's not YMMV.

So, when I was at Gamerush earlier today, I went to look for Castlevania for PS1 to see if it was marked down to $6.99. To my surprise, it was already stickered at $6.99, so I picked one up and went back to looking for some good next-gen used games. For some reason, I remained oblivious to the prices of the other PS1 games. Now, a few mintues later I went back to look at the new PS1 games again when something caught my eye...Final Fantasy IX for $6.99. I was quite surprised, then, as I began to look at the other games on the shelf, I noticed that ALL new PS1 games had been marked down to $6.99. "Hot damn!" I thought to myself, so I grabbed a copy of Chrono Cross and made my way to the register. Getting 3 great PS1 games for $6.99 was pretty awesome, I didn't think it could get any better...But it did...The cashier reminded me that new PS1 games are "Buy 1 get 1 Free." I nearly shat myself right then and there, she told me to go pick up another PS1 game and then I can complete my purchase. 4 brand new, top-notch PS1 games for $14?!

I hope this is universal for all GR's (BB?).
