OTHER INFO

I consider deals confirmed when I receive the MAP on every other Thursday. The Map outlines promos and how the store is to be layed out and includes the barcodes for the deals. Also we get the new trade flyers that day as well with new trade values and deals.

Deals usually end on close of business on Monday and begin on open Tuesday (some special ones do start on Thursday usually around labor day, memorial day, etc.)

They also have coupons in magazines for great deals, so be sure to check EGM, GamePro, and several other magazines.

GameRush is starting to expand, so check the store locator every once in awhile to see if one is coming to an area near you.

All BlockBuster's should now accept trades, so the trade in prices for BB and GR should be similar, but normal BBs will not always have the deals that GameRush has.

GameRush accepts game trades without case and instructions and the games can be in poor condition depending on the employee.

You must have a BB account and sign a trade agreement to trade at GameRush.

Please be careful if you scam GameRush (by flipping games) they do have the abillity to ban you from all GameRush locations if they want to (and as I have done but that was only because I was tired of crap PS1...).

Release dates - Go by the shipping date. 9 times out of 10 it is not what the Blockbuster computer says. The computer date is when traditional stores can expect to receive their rental games.

Game Rush receives games typically on Tuesday and Wednesday of the games release. Only reason EB and Gamestop get them a day before is because they get special shipments or their dm picks the games up and brings back that evening (or they are near distribution centers).

Some games have street dates but this is few and far between (outrun 2, halo 2, star wars episode 3, doom 3 are it in the past 6 months).
If you encounter any problems with the Nintendo just have them look in their GameRush map 12. The barcode is in the back of this map to take the price down as well
Are the computers not set up to automatically take the price down on the select titles? I just think having them scan it is going to create a ton of problems for many people, and with no official signage that I could see it's hard to tell what's 50% off and what they'll actually scan for you at 50% off.

Or does the barcode ONLY work on the games listed? I wanted to ask about Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, but since it was in the case and not with the other 50% games, I have a feeling I'd be told no as soon as I asked without them checking.

I mean, just Sunday the employee told me Final Fantasy 1 + 2 wasn't part of the sale, and there it was today in with the other 50% off stuff.

Some stuff Cory mentioned in the first post WASN'T in the 50% off rack, like Mario Tennis, and I didn't feel like pressing my luck.

I picked up Paper Mario (GCN) $25.00 and Mario Golf Advance (GBA) $12.50. A barcode has to be scanned for the deal. I perused the Map (Map 12 I think) while the employee was looking for Paper Mario. The Donkey Kong Jungle Beat that is 50% off is the 39.99 version that does not include the Bongos per the map.

Some stuff may not be on the rack, there is a list of alternate titles to put out in the MAP in case the other titles sell out (I actually have Mario Tennis on mine).

I'm not sure about the barcode on DK Jungle Beat (my stores sold out). It should only work on the games listed in the MAP.

The computer are not set up to automatically take it off, hence the barcode. Employees are supposed to rig a dry erase sign up on the endcap with the games.

Its a mess I know but its still not a bad deal. Again if you can direct the employee to Tuesday/Wednesday in the Game Rush map it will give them all the details.

Also note some stores maybe behind because of memorial day. Blockbuster usually gets real busy and most stores get screwed on hours because of the new scheduling system.

$20 still good deal on Regular Version compare to $40 but i'll endup getting Donkey Kong 2 w/ Bongo after trade-in 2 to get any new game for $30 :)

Euch.

I got Fire Red for half off, but it required "borrowing" the map, walking the employee through it when I was noticed, hunting down a copy of the game when he said they didn't have any in stock, and then waiting for him to get the new sale info to the guy at the register.

It works...it just takes a LOT of effort if the store isn't set up for it.

I can't really complain, though. I paid for this with some of my $25 in credit from a $10 copy of King of Fighters: Maximum Impact. :)

I just witnessed something very strange at the farmington blockbuster.

I go in there and there is a guy and his friend at the gamerush counter with a stack of cheapo games...must have been at least 20 of them, all with gamerush stickers on them, obviously bought from another gamerush. So he asks the gamerush employee "eric" (he was on a first name basis with the gamerush kid which makes me think this is an inside job) if he can see all of the new release games he has. So eric gets them out and the guy starts sorting through them and i overheard the guys friend say "hey look on the bright side as long as your letting him do this it stops random people from doing it" At this point i step up to the counter with my trades and the scammer (who was actually rather nice) tells eric to take care of me. So I ask if he has DMC3 or MNC3 and the scammer actually takes a dmc3 out of his stack of new releases and gives it to me. I did trade 3 for 5:

God of war - 30
ridge racer - 22
forza - 30

I didn't stick around to see if eric gave him all of the new releases and let him trade in his stack of 20 cheapos but i would imagine that's what happened.

Haha Right out of the Popcopy training manual.

Well, I just got back from Blockbuster. I had a few games I wanted to trade in for the 'trade 2 for $29.99' deal. So, I preordered Zelda, Full Auto (Xbox 360), and Godfather (Xbox 360, probably switch it out later).

At first, he said it wasn't letting him do the 360 titles, so I made mention that their advertisement clearly states 'all games', so he pressed on. I guess he manually had to do it, and it worked. The only odd thing is, I wasn't able to leave a deposit and had to pay $30 total on each game. That seemed odd because I have done it in the past, but I guess in the end it is worth it. I *really* wish Blockbuster would train their employee's better, every time I go there they all seem completely clueless.

You always have to PAY IN FULL with the pre-order deal
You always have to PAY IN FULL with the pre-order deal
Really? I've done the preorder deal for Halo 2, and Jade Empire, and only had to put down $5.

Thanks OP for the deal. It was a bit of pain at my local BB but I ended up getting Four Swords, Custom Robo, Mario Party 5, and Pokemone Red and Green for the wife. When I went in there wasnt an end cap setup so I asked the manager about the sale, he sent me over to the Gamerush guy who told me No, no such sale and walked away right away. I'm lucky the manager came over and brought out the book and looked up the sale and found it. The Gamerush worker ended up pissed off at me because once the manager found the sale, he tried to persuade the manager it meant it was only for New nintendo games not for Gamecube or GBA games. I couldnt figure out what he was talking about till he kept pointing at the few NES carts they had left used. After having to argue with him I got the deal so it was worth it.

Agreed.

I'm ALMOST tempted to get a job there just to show everyone else up.

It's sad that I know more about all their own deals then the employees do.

If you are only putting $5 down then that is okay. When you are doing that "trade in 2 games, get a new or pre-order a game for $30" then you do ahve to pay for the rest of the balance. I remember only having that negative in my balance, and then the next time I visited the place, they made me pay it off. It was his mistake and he forgot to make me pay it.

I noticed something too, but Gamerush has different trade in value. I remember going to one gamerush and seeing that Forza was $35, but my gamerush (that I visit more) is only $30.

Does anyone know the trade in value for Doom 3 Collector's Edition? (I'd call but my stores won't give quotes over the phone anymore for some reason)

It's in the 35-40 range i know that much

So it seems that this board actually led to my demise. I was told today that these forums were quoted as proof that people were buying cheap games just to profit off of GameRush, and that corporate believes this to be a violation of their trading agreement.

My trading account has been placed on indefinite hold at all GameRush's per corporate instructions. The funny thing is I am not a compulsive flipper. I may have flipped 4 games ever, but typically only after playing them and not caring for them. The fact that I bought cheap games elsewhere and then used them as trade in fodder is the problem. This is insane considering that every dollar of credit has then been used at blockbuster to buy my PSP and all the games I currently play. I have recommended their stores to countless people as a better alternative than GS and EB. Spreading the word of mouth in a way that only a grass roots effort could acheive.

They actually banned two people at my regular store (same reason for him, sorry to hear about your pain Jeff)

If any corporate folk are listening, you need to wise up. You need to build a fan base, you need positive feedback and word of mouth. You need repeat customers, you need preorders to allow you to negotiate lower game costs. You need patient customers who don't get pissed every time the game is unavailable on day of release, or want a more obscure title, or hey even want to buy a PC game.

I am not some asshole who is buying from you and reselling on ebay, I actually play the games I buy. I'm also not a moron, so yes I do maximize how I combine deals. But I play by your rules. So I'm feeling somewhat descriminated against right now.

So how do you avoid my fate, simple. Trade infrequently and buy your new games from Fry's. If you can't use the trade 2 buy a game for 29.99, why would you preorder from GR. The same game is available on the day of release at fry's and you don't have to give up two games.

What sucks the most for me is I had actual freindships at the GR's I traded at, now the manager is embarrassed to look at me, Quote "I can't see why corporate would do such a stupid thing, why would they care where you bought a game from and how much you paid for it."

Good luck to you all, I have enough credit for my xbox 360, but I will be buying my games elsewhere it seems :(

Now what do with all those used games I bought from EB???

Sucks! Especially for those who are not flipping. I am cool with a lot of employees at my gamerush and one of the guys told me today that 2 more people in the area got banned for flipping. I keep waiting for them to flag me (I've traded in about 20 madden 04's in the past few weeks), but they haven't yet.

If I was in your position, I would do the same thing, spend the credit you have left and buy your games elsewhere. It's their deal, so they should honor it!

Question on these:

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
Paper Mario
Pikmin 2

How much were they BEFORE the 50% price drop?? Are we talking $30? $40? $50?
all deals dead in NC, no $29 or $5 deal. Camel killed it for all of us. WTF
look jackass i didnt do crap, i got banned, yeah so what, do you think i was the only one, this whole thread had almost become about people doing it, if anything you could blame the this thread seing as i am sure people at corparate know how to read and use a damn computer. so blow it out your a**

i would also like to state for the record, I DID NOT KILL THE DEAL IN ANY OF THE 50 STATES, but let me ask a questioin, how at christmas was it so easy, i mean i know i had upwards of 2500 in credit, but they do it this time and everybody is getting banned, does anybody else smell set up
Agreed.

I'm ALMOST tempted to get a job there just to show everyone else up.

It's sad that I know more about all their own deals then the employees do.
A) There was so little time to go to the back to play with the stupid computer that you could actually know what was going on, because you had to stay on the floor to prevent people from slicing cases
B) The people who do the MAP every week are not the same ones you talk to after you get out of school/work every week.
C) You really don't want to work for this company (former employee - leaving was the best thing I've ever done)

The Trade 3, Buy for $5 deal is VERY much alive in NC. At least at my non-GR BB.
i know in my case i almost lost all of them, value cards and preorders
So you lost your credit? I'd re-read your trade agreement and talk to the BBB. Those trade deals exist for a reason: for them to get more used product.

well i almost lost it i talked the dm into letting me keep them, but then i got pissed and cancelled all of them and spent the money on b2g1f

Echoes is 44.99, so it comes out to be 22.50 with the 50%.

My store didn't have Paper Mario or Pikmin 2, but I believe Pikmin 2 was also 44.99 from seeing it somewhere in this thread.

Argh. Camelking quit posting every other line. The reason people are upset with you is that way you act in this thread. If you're not talking about a specific deal, trade-in value, game finds, etc... then take it to the flipping thread. Please.

i am sorry lord jackass, but if you look back i am defending myself, and i so sorry i offend you but i figured letting people know the deal was dead in sc was what this thread was for,

Change of management at Blockbuster - There are now former eb and gamestop guys higher in the company now

I think I saw metroid prime 2 for $30. $15 after discount isn't bad, assuming I remember correctly. I also think Paper mario was $40. Not sure, however.

ummm....i just called 3 BlockBusters in my area, San Jose, CA. And they all said there was NO video game sale on GameCube. In fact, they checked their computers, and Star Fox was still $49.99 and Custom Robo was $29.99.

oh, and I checked BlockBuster online as well....no sale

Not sure about Blockbuster but the deal is definately on at Gamerush. I picked up the following:

DK Jungle Beat minus Bongos $20
Star Fox Assault $25

They ring up full price but there is a coupon in the MAP book that they scan for the 50% off sale. Kind of like the same thing when they ring up your trade 3, get 1 used for $5 or the trade 2, get 1 new for 29.99. The key is the coupon or barcode they scan during the purchase.

Ask them (nicely) to read this weeks 'pitch pack' it's on the 2nd or 3rd page. They scan the game and then apply a 50% off coupon.

i traded in nba street v3 =30 fable=12 and kingdom hearts com =14 i got area 51=$5 , and san anderas for the xbox for $29.99 (pre-order) and still have 22 dollars good? i think so!

Thanks for the advice Fellas! I just got off the phone with 3 more Blockbusters. It's really tough to find Star Fox or Custom Robo new for sale; none so far. I'll be sure to mention Map 12, and Pitch Pack next time.

edit...: just got done calling the 10th Blockbuster in my area. None have Star Fox or Custom Robo new for sale. That's enough dialing for me.

I'm off to kill that guy with the claws in the Castle who stabbed me in the head last night. Time for some payback with the Broken Butterfly, Mofo! :D

so when i preordered for $30 its in full right? i dont want to show up to get and find out i need to pay and extra $20.

also when i went, the $30 was paid with store credit.

Just to let people know.... the manager Virgil at the BLOCKBUSTER/GAMERUSH in Riverside, off of La Sierra is banning people from stores. He's watching people for flipping, and then getting their accounts banned. If you've been banned for flipping, and you've been to that store, then you know who to thank. Anyone know his last name? He's the manager, and he's a total hypacrite, making up rules that are not in the policy. Someone needs to report him.

I don't know if this question has been asked and answered before...but how are people faring are regular Blockbusters as far as the trade 3 / $5 deal? My past experiences have been pretty bad as far as regular BB's. Most have no idea about ANY deals, let alone one like that. Back a while ago I went into 2 or 3 stores that actually had deals advertised hanging from banners above their game sections but when I went to make a transaction they either said they weren't doing it or didn't know how or got it wrong. Back then one store told me that they would take my 2 games and give me one for $10 I think it was but no original credit...another store was convinced the extra $5 offered was only for the games listed on the flyer...stuff like that....

Basically I am wondering about other peoples' experience and whether there's any point to arguing if the store just doesn't know what's up. Most of the time the stores have crap for used games anyway but i'd like to at least go and take a look because the only true GR's in NYC are out in Staten Island which is out of the way (and an $8 toll!). Thanks.

It took some time for the main GR guy at my local store to figure it out about the 50% off Nintendo deal. At first he wasn't going to give it to me and told me to come back tomorrow until he figures it out to be legit. But at least I can now say I am a proud owner of the last copy of FF1&2. Thanks again CoryCubed!

Yes, I too, got a FF 1&2 - thanks again Cory. I am going out of town Weds morning for 10 days and now I have a new game to play on my DS during my down time at the hotel. I would have missed this deal entirely if I didn't know about it in advance. It did take some prodding to get my GR to do it (they just had to look it up in the MAP), but well worth it.

I've been having pretty good experiences with normal BBs that have signs up advertising the 3 for 5 deal.

Although I really wouldn't be even in these non GR BBs if not for all the recent bannings lately...I'm just trying to keep a low profile while taking advantage of all these awesome deals.

And yes, I do find it absurd that they are doing this to people who aren't "flipping" games to the same location.
