You know the ones - you've got a huge backlog of games but GAME X which you just finished was so awesome that you decided to go back and play it again... or maybe you just got done with a crappy game and wanted to play something you know you would enjoy so you dust off that old copy of GAME X and have at it again.

Games I've played through twice recently are:

Gears of War
Metroid Prime
The Sands of Time
Wind Waker
Resident Evil 4

What are yours?

Resident Evil 4 - If I hadn't let my friend barrow this game, who knows how many times I would have finished it by now.

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 - The second time through was with the excellent developer commentary turned on.

Sands of Time - With this game I had the killing moves learned for every enemy and the combat felt like a ballet.

Knights of the Old Republic - The odd thing with this game is that both times through I played as a balanced/Light sided Jedi.

Fable - Once with the original and again with the Lost Chapters. This game is my Oblivion.

recent:

Dead Rising (might not count since its so short and almost intended to be played multiple times)

Gears of War (played through Hardcore co-op and then Insane co-op)

not so recent:

KoTOR (played through three times at least, once light side and twice dark side)

Chrono Trigger (can't even remember how many times I've played through this game)

FF7 (ditto)

Every Zelda except Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess.
Every 2D Mario, and Mario 64.
Resident Evil 4.
Oblivion.
Crackdown.
GTA: San Andreas.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
Every Tony Hawk game except THUG 2.
Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, and 2007.
Silent Hill 2.

There have been a couple games I have revisited within the last year. I've played thru Final Fantasy 1 on the GBA at least three times, trying out different teams. I've also revisited the awesomly underated stragedy game Gladius, having beaten it with the male lead awhile back I decided to try starting as the female lead and use some different gladiators that I didn't use on my previous team.

I've just finally completed my Resident Evil collection for the Cube, so I'm now thinking about giving the entire series another play thru starting with Zero. I've beaten them all before except for Code: Veronica (which I haven't even touched yet) and I haven't played RE 2 & 3 in a long while way back on the PS1. By the time it will take me to get to RE4, I should have a Wii and will probably pick up the new version for that system.

Metal Gear Solid 1
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Zone of the Enders
Ico

THPS1, 2, 3, 4, and Underground. You need to play through it more than once to unlock characters, but I'd do it after I had everything. I could finish every level with all the goals in like 30 minutes. THPS 3 and 4 are probably both in my top 5 games of all time. I have spent so much time and have so many good memories playing them with friends and family, too.

I came to this thread expecting to give a fairly short list, but it got a little longer reading the other posts. Anyway,

Zelda: OoT - Couple of times on N64, Master Quest on GCN.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - Awesome ending.
GTA San Andreas - Once on PS2, once on PC. Sunk a ton of time into on the PC, but still haven’t ever completed it.
Halo - Different difficulties, Co-op and solo. I've probably played each level on legendary several times, but not in order.
Jet Grind Radio
THPS (N64) - My memory card kept deleting the save... I probably completed it five times (Every skater, everything).
THPS3 - GCN and Xbox
Eternal Darkness - 3 times, for the "Uber Ending."
Rush 2049 - Played thoroughly on N64 and DC. Never completed (haven't ever found all the hidden medals/whatevers).
REZ - It's an hour long... of course I've beaten dozens of times.
Ratchet and Clank: Up your Arsenal - Probably twice.
Ratchet: Deadlocked - At least 3 times
Guitar Hero II - "Beaten" on Expert on PS2 and 360.
Resident Evil REmake - Claire and Chris (does that count?).
Donkey Kong Country - Who knows?
Tetris Attack (Story Mode) - Several times, probably only once on the secret extra hard difficulty.
2D Marios - Who didn't?
No One Lives Forever 2 (PC)

I'm sure there are other old ones I'm forgetting, but that's a pretty good list considering I don't usually consider myself as someone that replays games.

Outside of the 8/16 bit era, FFVII and most recently RE4. With FFVII it was a few years between each play through but with RE4 I played it over and over within days of beating it.

HL2
HL2 Episode 1
Halo 2
Ninja Gaiden (original and then Black)
RE4
Eternal Darkness
Gears of War
Zelda OoT
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
FFVI
FFVII
FF Tactics
Grandia
Skies of Arcadia (original and Legends)
Lunar

I'd add Shadow of the Collosus and just about all Castlevania games since SotN to my list.

My backlog has prevented me from playing SoTC. Haven't even purchased it yet actually, but I really want to play it. And, I don't see the appeal of Castlevania games, but they get so much praise. I should really try them out sometime.

My list is inaccurate though. Some of those games I have played way more than twice (MGS2 probably about 15 times).

Metal Gear Solid (i passed this game at least 3 times before i moved onto the next game)
Mario Kart 64
Castlevania: SOTN
Halo
Halo 2
Gears of War
Most of the "Command & Conquer" games

Just about every game in the residents evil series. With the exception of RE3 I only beat once.

Both halo's. Am about to beat halo 2 again as I will be getting it on the PC tomorrow.

Gears of War.

Metal gear solid 2.

Metal gear solid 3, if you count the subsistence version.

GTA 3

Guitar hero I & II

Zelda Ocarina of time.

Super mario world.

Super mario bros. 3

Final fantasy 9.

Legend of Dragoon.

All I can think of looking through my collection.

Recently, the only game I have played through multiple times is Gears of War (though technically I haven't finished my second playthrough quite yet, as I am stuck on RAAM - but I have also played through to act 4 on co-op).

Aside from that:
Zelda: OoT - far too many times to count
Eternal Darkness - twice
DKC3 - many times...made it to the end on hard mode, but never quite completed it

EDIT:
Zelda: LA + OoA + OoS - many times each

A few off the top of my head:

Shadow of the Colossus
Resident Evil + 2 + 4
Ninja Gaiden
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI + VII
Halo
Contra + Shattered Soldier
Silent Hill
Zelda: LTTP

And just about every SMB game...

Mega Man X8 is the most recent, that was back in Dec/Jan.

Other than that ... Donkey Kong (GB), Link's Awakening, Mega Man 5 (GB), and most of the SMB games.

The more classic games I've beat innumerable times. Such as Mario 1, Mario 3, Kirby's Dream Land, Contra, Donkey Kong '94, original Donkey Kong, TMNT II (NES), Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3

More recent games that I can keep track of:
Halo 1: 3 times
Sonic Rush: 2 times
New Super Mario Bros: 3 times

Games coming up for a second playing:
Ninja Gaiden Black
Crimson Skies
Resident Evil 4 (Wii version this time!)
Twilight Princess

Resident Evil 4 (combined PS2,GC) I beat the game 9 times, and not to mention I am getting the Wii version also. -Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic - played through this 3 times -Ninja Gaiden - 2 times, plus going to get PS3 Signma verson those are the three I can think of right now, I know there is more I'll edit this post if I remember.

Here's a few that immediately come to mind:

Castlevania: SotN
Dino Crisis 2
Fable
Final Fantasy 7
GoldenEye
Halo
Knights of the Old Republic
Resident Evil 4

Megaman X, X2
Mario World
Zelda LttP
All Donkey Kong Countries
Super Metroid
Chrono Cross
Diddy Kong Racing
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IX
Resident Evil 1, 2
Onimusha 2

Deus Ex (PC/PS2)
King's Bounty (GEN)
Mario's Picross (GB)
Final Fantasy 3/6 (SNES/PSone)
Metal Gear Solid (PSone, GC)
Super Mario 1, 2, 3, World
Castlevania: SotN (PSone/360)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Diablo (PC/PSone)
DOOM (PC/SNES/32X/360)
Super PunchOut (SNES)
Snatcher (SCD)
Tony Hawk 1, 2, 3 (PSone/PS2)
Guitar Hero II (PS2/360)
Contra (NES)
Space Griffon VF-9 (PSone)

EDIT: I forgot Metal Gear Acid 2 (PSP)

Earthbound- One of the best games ever.
Resident Evil 4- Through all the times I beat it and helped my friends through it, I would safely say around the 15 margin.
God of War 1 and 2- Both on the hardest difficulty level the second time through.
Legend of Zelda:OoT- any reason stated by other posters
Super Mario World-Used to play this forever. Then again on the GBA.

Zelda: Link to the Past, second time through as an adult seemed to be a lot shorter than the first few times as a kid.

Halo 1&2: College grade droppers

Knights of the Old Republic 1&2: Both were awesome. Played through almost all different scenarios in the game.

Fable: First time by myself, second time with the wife.

very little in the modern area is worth playing through a second time. games with anything longer than a 10 hour playtime I just don't have the time to play through again.

but back in the day I used to replay lots of things.
contra nes
life force nes
(see a pattern?)
bionic commando nes
wasteland pc
some of the 'gold box' games on the pc.

the only thing i've even bothered to start a second play through on my ps2 has been the ratchet and clank games.

Just counting the games I've played through to completion more than once:

Final Fantasy VII (at least three times-- twice on PC, once on PS1)
Final Fantasy VIII (never really took to the story, but love the gameplay)
ICO (the second time was shortly before my first playthrough of SotC)

There's also several games that I'll play for awhile without finishing, then start over again months or years later: Doom II, Harvest Moon, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (which I'm now near the end of), Final Fantasy V, etc.

From last generation:

Resident Evil 4 GCN, I played through 3 times in a row without touching another game.

Disgaea 1
Shadow of the Colossus

As far as going back after some time, would be an enormous list if i included all generations. Last gen:

FFX
Baten Kaitos
Mario Sunshine
Shadow Hearts 2
Wild Arms 3

beat more than twice... not since the 16-bit days since games are so long these days... So on the top of my list of games I've beaten multiple times... Double Dragon, Street Fighter 2, Revenge of Shinobi, R-Type, Thunderforce 3, Golden Axe, Altered Beasts, Final Fight Sega CD.

Final Fantasy Tactics is the only game I have ever played through completely 3 times. I love this game! The customization and strategy are still the best I've ever experienced. I've tried all the Nippon Ichi games, but they just feel too flimsy or something. Maybe it's the anime...I don't know, but nothing compares to Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSone. (The GBA version sucks ass, of course)

I played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Repbulic twice. In fact, I played the Light Side (XBOX) and the Dark Side (PC) at the same time.

Also: Rush N' Attack, Contra, Castlvania, Gradius, Mike Tyson's Punchout and a few other NES games that escape me at the moment.

Castlevania POR

I beat normal mode, did a Richter speed run, a Sisters speed run and a Old Axe Armor speed run. I also did a Hard Mode Lv1 with Jonathan without using the Ancient Armor.

>_< @ being hit for 250-500 damage per attack from bosses and my max HP is 608

I normally never play a game twice (especially RPGs) , but if it has a good story, I might. Here are my more recent ones:

Metal Gear Solid 1,2,3
Suikoden 1,2,3,5
Resident Evil 1 & 4
Castlevania SOTN
Valkyrie Profile
Devil May Cry

The original Splinter Cell is the one game I can remember doing this with since the beginning of last gen. Played it through on normal and then nearly 100% of the way through on hard. Actually I did the same thing with Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and New Super Mario Bros on the DS. NSMB is quite a bit shorter and I was really more 100%ing the thing than truly playing it through a 2nd time.

With games dropping to pretty cheap levels relatively quickly I nearly always have something new to move on to and I'm the type that would nearly always rather move to something new. Plus I tend to sell games after finishing with them so I don't physically have most of the games I've beaten anyway.

Final Fantasy Tactics (beat it 8 times)
Metal Gear Solid 1-3 (5-6 times each)
Resident Evil 4
Zone of the Ender 2
Devil May Cry
God of War 1-2

Only ones I can think of offhand from the last 2-3 gens are:

Silent Hill(almost every ending, including the UFO one)
GTA 3, VC, but not SA yet(still working on 100% on my PS2 save)

Otherwise, I think I've only played most games once, but still go back in to replay a level or two every so often to try and get a better score or whatever.

I've beaten Command&Conquer: Red Alert 2 at least four times. It's just one incredibly fun and entertaining game.

The Legend of Zelda
Link to the Past
Ocarina of Time
Resident Evil 1 & 2
Final Fantasy I & VI
Chrono Trigger
Kingdom Hearts
Super Mario 64
Castlevania: Synphony of the Night & Dawn of Sorrow
Super Mario World
Metal Gear Solid
